Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

Walking into the Guildhall in the early morning, Momonga looks around, seeing that despite the early time, the place is busier than yesterday. Staff were rushing around stacks of paper in hand, adventures with crates of water and potions, priests walking around, some of them looking exhausted.

"Ah Team Darkness, good to see you so bright and early." Pluton said, walking up to them, papers in each hand. He had bags over his eyes and looked a little pale. Despite this, the determination on his face hasn't faded one bit. In fact, he looks more determined than before.

"Guild master, we're here to help wherever we can." Momonga said with a bright smile that Trixie matched, but Narberal just could not bring herself to smile at the guy, so she just stared him down.

"Good, I need all the hands I can get."

Throughout the day, they carried out many tasks, but mostly they were just waiting around, as adventurers and mercenaries filled the Guild. One of the mithril teams gave us a stink eye whenever he saw us. Looks like he's not happy with our rank.

Gazef appeared at one point, with his warriors and all the soldiers in the city following behind him. They distributed potions for healing and holy water for demons to everyone.

---

As the sunset and the last rays of light washed over E-Rantel, everyone started tensing. Although the attack could happen at any time, almost everyone thought it would be a night.

And when the sound of the horn echoed throughout the city, everyone rushed towards it. Momonga, Trixie, and Narberal were running along the rooftops to avoid the crowds and saw the undead rising from the cemetery. It was like a sea of bone shambling along, climbing the walls and breaking through the gate.

The rushing adventures wasted no time with some drawing swords and pouring holy water on it, some tying up their sheath and using that, the people using blunt weapons anyway grinned. Some leaped into the air, some crouched as low as they could, others just ran straight ahead, but they all clashed just the same.

With ease, the adventurers tore through the undead, laughing and smashing them. The undead were already being pushed back to just beyond the gate, Gazef and his warriors leading the assault from the front along with other high-ranking adventures. The Priests in the back started using holy magic to bless the warriors, making them even more effective on the battlefield.

From on top of the wall, arrows fired into the air, hailing down from the sky. But these were adventure's, many could dodge or block the arrows, others couldn't or simply got unlucky.

To make matters worse, they heard a raspy voice echo out.

"[Undead Fortitude] [Negative Energy Enhancement]"

The undead took blows and fought back; the battle was more even now adventures and undead falling, however more and more undead started pouring out of the gate and climbing over the walls. Seemingly no end to them.

"Foolish humans, don't you see your end is inevitable? Give in to despair and surrender. Those that join Jaldabaoth shall have a place in the Demon Empire!" Jaldabaoth's voice was clear from miles away. Of course, even some at the front lines stopped to stare at the demon and got swiftly killed.

Momonga could see some people in the back actually start wavering and consider it.

Momonga crouched down and launched himself off the building, breaking the roof and flying directly towards the demon who engulfed himself in hellfire. Flaming claws met a black blade, the demon getting pushed back flying into the cemetery.

Trixie and Narberal came flying overhead, unleashing fire and lighting magic onto the gate and walls, clearing them, landing on the walls. While Narberal looked ahead at the hordes of undead neutrally, Trixie turned around and started posing, getting cheers from the crowds.

Gazef, who was fighting right at the front with his warriors, wasted no time charging through the gates with a roar, getting others to follow behind him. In a moment, the sides were reversed, and the undead had to stop hordes of adventurers and soldiers.

Momonga landing on the walls jumped off again, spinning around in the air, landing in the middle of the undead, a gust of sharp wind cutting all the undead around him making a clear area that Gazef capitalised on using it to get a run up.

"[Martial Art- Heavy Blow]" Jumping him, his great sword turned red, smashing an undead into the ground, causing an impact that crushed the surrounding undead. Adventures and soldiers just kept going, pouring out from the gate and clashing with the undead.

A lot of the magic caster got on top of the walls where Trixie and Narberal were casting buffs or shooting spells into the crowds of skeletons.

A pillar of dark fire rose to the sky and, like a shooting star, Jaldabaoth shot into the adventures, killing most in his blast radius and stopping their assault dead in its tracks, killing the momentum.

Ignoring everything else, he rocketed towards Momonga who blocked a fiery strike planting his feet into the ground leaving a trail in the ground from being pushed back. Jaldabaoth jumped back before running deeper into the cemetery.

"Gazef, I'm going after him." Momonga shouted, running ahead zooming out of sight.

Gazef felt torn between wanting to follow and not being able to stand leaving his troops behind.

"Go! We'll take care of the undead. You need to face the demon." A warrior shouted at him, getting agreements from the rest of his men. Gazef could only let out a small huff. Smiling at his men, he ran off, following them.

Only he didn't get far as before him were twelve magic casters dressed in robes. The one in the centre dressed in red with three skulls hanging from his neck held a glowing purple orb that radiated death.

He looked reluctant, yet he raised the orb to the sky, Gazef's heart dropped. From above appeared a dragon. It stood made of bones, with four hollow eyes that held only a speck of red. The rotted wings had holes in them and sharp spikes trailed all the way down its back, ending at its tail. Its claws were razor sharp, the ones on its feet and on its wings.

Gazef locked eyes on the silent magic casters from behind him the cries of despair and screams of panic emerged from everyone. Amidst the panic, despair, and the overwhelming presence of dragons, morale quickly crumbled away as everyone lost all hope.

Of course, it was the perfect stage for heroes.

Narberal, who everyone thought to be a magic caster, flew towards the dragon, smashing its head with her sheathed blade, cracking its face and making it tumble out of the sky, crashing into a pile of undead, causing an enormous dust cloud.

Shock and awe held onto most people's faces before the roars of hope echoed across the cemetery. People started fighting with renewed vigour like a second wind as they pushed back against the undead marching forwards.

The Skeletal dragon got up, its face healing as it roared at the flying Narberal, who looked down on it coldly. Narberal flew back, dodging a strike from a second Skeletal dragon that landed beside the first, the only thing between them and the adventures being Narberal.

Gazef charged the silent magic casters using [Flow Acceleration] to dodge out the way of some nasty magic they had thrown his way. One of them slammed their staff into the ground and whispered, summoning a skeleton clearly better armed and more powerful than the ones attacking the city. Raising his sword high, he remembered back to the fight with the angels, the strike Momonga used to end the giant threat and he followed his instinct.

His sword is red, not yellow. It doesn't shine like sunlight, but the strike hits true, splitting the undead in two. It wasn't perfect. Gazef shook his head. He shouldn't be testing things on the battlefield. Diving out the way of a spell, he looks ahead at the magic casters.

Only for one of them to fall.

Someone flips over the magic caster group who remains silent despite the death of their ally. It was a lithe girl with short blonde hair, violent red eyes who was wearing a cloak.

"Hello, Gazef. My name is Clementine. I'm here to help you against these disgusting old heathens." She said, licking her stiletto, giving the casters a predatory smile. Gazef could tell whoever she was, she was dangerous, but for now he'll take all the help he can get.

"Sky wolf, Rainbow. Help Narberal with the Dragons, Kralgra help me and Gazef with the summoners." Trixie screamed from the sky, landing beside Gazef to face the members of Zurrernorn who were still as silent as corpses.

The three mithril ranked adventuring parties followed the orders separating from the major group to join the fight against the greater opponents.

An explosion rang out in the distance as if thrown Jaldabaoth's body came barreling through the sky stopping midair turning around looking at the leaping Momonga who clashed with demon midair the sound of his sword meeting the demon's claws ringing out as they separated and fell to the ground.
