Chereads / Light After Darkness / Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

When the Reverend and his apprentices reached the 44th floor, it has a luxurious atmosphere, but it was already left by time. Reverend Anthony walked towards the seventh door on the left and did not hesitate to open it. The squeaky sound of the door echoed across the whole floor, but the three fearlessly entered the dim room and to their expectation, the Special Division of Veritas Detective Agency was inside, waiting for them.

"They are here." A normal looking guy with a military cut hairstyle announced and approached them, but his facial expression seems like he is rather troubled than delighted.

The Reverend worriedly asked, looking at the sullen look of the members of the Veritas Detective Agency, "Harold, where is Rylan? And is this the 4th Division of Veritas?"

While asking a question, someone caught the attention of the Reverend. He has a physique and aura who is different from everyone. He is standing tall, his broad shoulders and chiseled jawline that matched his ash blonde hair in a regulation cut hairstyle, exudes an undeniable strength and authority. His eyes are similar to that of a shining emerald gemstone, looking in one direction, with a mix of subtle shocked, anger yet longing expression, as if his last thread of sanity has been snapped. He is looking at his female apprentice who is attentively waiting for the answer of Harold and is not interested in looking at others.

Harold nodded his head as reply to the question of the Reverend and whispered to him as if he is gossiping, "They are the 4th Division of Veritas. That aloof, muscular guy, exuding a model vibe just like that male apprentice of yours, is the Vice-Captain."

They were about to take a look at the Vice-Captain of the 4th Division, but because of the sudden explosion sound outside, it made them distracted.

Keira's ebony eyes started to look expressionless yet fierce, indicating that she is extremely serious as she asked with a low and threatening voice, "Rylan is dealing alone with ERC 264, am I right?"

Harold pursed his lips and nodded his head. Keira was about leave the room in a hurry, but she halted on her tracks when the Reverend calmly spoke yet commanded, "Keira, stop. You are only allowed to observe."

She clenched her fists and lowered her head. 'It is my fault. Why am I having a dreadful day?'

While she is starting to get emotionally unstable, the Reverend patted her head and gently said, "You have already saved twenty-nine people today. That is already enough, learn how to rest sometimes. Also, look behind you, the 4th Division of Veritas are all safe. No one got harmed."

She did not reply and just stood still, she appreciated the concern of the Reverend, but she still silently blaming herself for that one mistake that caused this big trouble, especially to Rylan.

"We will help Rylan outside. Harold, if something turns out bad, protect the people inside this room." Reverend Anthony instructed and Harold delightedly accepted it.

"Get a hold of yourself. You look like someone who had just been cheated on. You look pitiful." Theo said as he handed a towel and bottle of water to her. When Keira looked at him, his handsome smiling face, as if he just won on their never-ending bickering, made her irritated to the core. She silently grabbed the towel and opened the cap of the bottle of water.

"Damn you, Keira!" Theo exclaimed and grabbed the collar of Keira's tracksuit jacket as he raised his right fist on her after she splashed the water from the bottle on his face with force while Reverend Anthony sighed and massaged his temple.

Keira calmly but teasingly said, "Who is now more pitiful between us? You coward loser."

She also grabbed his hair with a force that he can feel that a chunk of his brown silky hair will be separated from his scalp.

"Let go, ugly monster."

"You let go first, coward loser."

None of them wanted to let go, and the Reverend looks like he has already reached the limit of his patience. He stood between them with a beautiful and gentle smile painted on his face, he touched the shoulders of his apprentices which sent shivers to their spines.

"How about the Old and New Testament this time? Fifteen times? No, how about twenty times?" Reverend Anthony speak normally, calm, and gentle, but the two apprentices immediately let go, as if an adult was reprimanding two kinder students.

Keira spotted a one-seater sofa and strides towards it and sat on it with a heavy flop, unknowingly passing by the Vice-Captain of the 4th Division of Veritas who keeps his emerald eyes on her. She rested her head as she heavily sighed and placed the towel over her tired eyes.

She silently speak to herself, "Ah… how many sleepless days should I endure just to finish this act?"

When Reverend Anthony and Theo went out, silence echoed in the room, but it was broken by one of the captured notorious criminals.

"So… did you really had your heart-broken, Little Miss?" He asked with malice, but Keira remained silent for seconds. Suddenly, the whole room became so chilly, as if they were inside the refrigerator. Everyone felt that chill and the Special Division of Veritas got alerted as they know that this kind of feeling is not good for them, while the 4th Division just ignored it.

"Hey." Keira spoke in a low voice as she removed the towel on the top of her eyes and her eyes look like you are looking into an abyss that can get everyone who looks at it intimidated.

Keira looked at the criminal and asked, "You want to come inside me?"

The 4th Division misunderstood her reply as a flirtatious answer to the question of the notorious criminal and the air inside the room got awkward, however, their reaction became pale when they saw the reaction of the Vice-Captain. He had a cold expression while clenching his fists so much that his veins are popping out from his arms up to his neck.

"Keira! You are only allowed to observe…", Harold said with a worried look on his face. Keira silently side-eyed him, expressionless.

"Let me handle it, hm?" He added with a voice trying to convince her that he and the other Clairvoyants can deal with the unclean soul.

"I don't want to." Keira replied in a cheeky tone and turned her look to the unclean soul who was sticking at the shoulders of the notorious criminal and walked towards them. Harold was just dumbfounded on her reply, and he was not able to prevent the next thing that happened.

Thud!

Keira's soul got separated from her physical body as soon as she violently grabbed the face of the notorious criminal and allowed the unclean soul to enter her empty body.

"Keira! Damn!" Harold cussed out and stepped back, with cold sweat forming on his forehead.

"Prepare the equipment!" He instructed the other members of the Special Division, and they immediately unlocked the metal briefcases that they were carrying. When they opened it, various exorcism tools, such as the Holy Cross, the Holy Bible, the Holy Rosary, Holy Water, Holy Bullets, revolver, and other personal exorcism tools were inside of it.

"Keira! Hurry, your judge!" Harold hurriedly asked. The Special Division understood that he was speaking to Keira, but the 4th Division and the notorious criminals got weirded out at him when he was talking in the air.

Keira coldly replied, "ERC, but she is nearing DC."

She looked at her unconscious body or more precisely at the unclean soul of a woman who is having trouble in adjusting at her body while she is strategically thinking of the possibilities that may arise before she could exorcise it.

"Seal my body while it is unconscious. I feel an ominous feeling in that soul. Get it done before a minute." Keira instructed and two of the members of the Special Division hurriedly carried Keira's body and placed it near the wall. Harold's pale face came forward, holding a grade 80 cargo chain and poured a bottle of Holy Water on it while reciting a Latin prayer. While the other members of the Special Division started embedding two large nails on the wall, in between those nails is the unconscious body of Keira.

"Harry, be gentle on my body." Keira teased Harold but her face remained stoic, knowing that his nerves are now trembling because of fear from the unclean soul and at the same time feeling an extreme guilt of sealing the body of his comrade.

"Y-Yeah…it's my first time to do such thing to you… my advance apologies if you got injured a little bit. It's a bad timing that Rylan is dealing with another ERC." Harold nervously replied with a smile on his face, but his face is gloomy and pale, as if at any moment he might collapse. Despite this, his bravery and quick-wittedness overcame those negative feelings which made him the respectable second-in-command of the Special Division despite being only a Clairvoyant.

Harold was about to place the chain on the left wrist of Keira's body when a large and strong hand stopped him. It was the Vice-Captain of the 4th Division of Veritas who was coldly looking at him, as if he was a despicable being while grabbing his arm with brute force.

"What are you doing?" the Vice-Captain of the 4th Division of Veritas coldly asked, his fiery furious emerald eyes glaring at Harold.
