Chapter 2 - Chapter: 2

(???)

It was a beautiful day. The sun was high, and animals were doing their usual thing. Prey was looking for food to consume, and predators were looking to consume their prey. In the circle of life, the strong fed upon the weak, and the weak were left to wait patiently for their death.

The bushes swayed gently in the breeze, and suddenly, two big white ears emerged from the foliage. It was a rabbit. The rabbit gracefully stood on its powerful hind legs, delicately sniffing the air before darting away. The rabbit chanced upon a rock adorned with plump, ripe berries as it hopped along. Feeling no immediate threat, it eagerly indulged in the sweet, juicy fruit.

In an instant, the rabbit's crimson eyes widened fearfully as it caught sight of something sharp hurtling towards it. Frozen in fear, it was powerless to escape despite the desperate urge to flee, and its fur bristled in the chilling breeze.

At that moment, a wooden spear pierced the rabbit's eye and came out of its mouth. The death was instant and painless, frighteningly efficient as well. A young girl with flowing, messy black hair jumped from the trees above and pulled the spear from the ground.

The spear greatly wedged into the rabbit's corpse.

"Good...dinner." - ???

(Alita's POV)

'Only thing to do now is making some fire, shit I have to skin and gut this thing' - Alita

I opened my palm to try and create a blade of ice; I had an affinity for water magic.

'It's not working, I understand this is a new body, but for nothing to happen is borderline impossible' - Alita

I closed my eyes to focus on feeling my mana. I felt like a source of energy, but it definitely was mana. Also, there was so little of it, like the equivalent of the chances of you getting some bitches.

"Damn, gotta do this the old fashion way" - Alita

With the spear and the rabbit in my toe, I carried them near a stream and planted the spear in the ground. I looked in the stream for a decently sized rock that filled my palm. I found one, went to an even bigger rock, and started to hit the rock hard against another until it somewhat resembled a blade.

This only took 3 minutes as I was hitting the rock exactly where it needed to be hit with the right amount of force. I start grinding the stone again, a rock slab covered in water. I sighed as this shit takes a minute to do. I sharpened this rock for an hour and a half straight.

I gathered some branches, started a fire, skinned the rabbit, and began cooking it.

'As peaceful as this shit can be, it is way too time-consuming. Though a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do, ain't nobody gonna lend me a hand on this shit.' - Alita

While waiting for the rabbit to cook, Alita started thinking about her previous life.

"If only I had a healthy body and some good 'status' my life would be so much simpler " - Alita

Suddenly, a translucent blue screen appeared before her.

"What the actual fuck..." - Alita

"I've never seen anything like this before..." - Alita

Alita moved her hand to touch the screen, only for it to pass right through.

"Health..." - Alita

A window opened, revealing an abundant amount of information about her body. For life expectancy, it is the exact second when puberty will end for me. Things were revealed to me that I didn't even know about.

"What the hell is a cancer cell?" - Alita

Suddenly another window opened.

{Cancer cells don't carry on maturing or become so specialized. Cells mature so that they can carry out their function in the body. This process of maturing is called differentiation. In cancer, the cells often reproduce very quickly and don't have a chance to mature.

In simpler terms - Cancer cells are cells that divide continually, forming solid tumors or flooding the blood or lymph with abnormal cells. Cell division is a normal process used by the body for growth and repair}

'What is this thing even measuring off of? I thought I was doing pretty good...' - Alita

Alita noticed that the other categories were pretty straightforward. She didn't have any quests to undertake, and as for the shop, she didn't have any currency to make any purchases, so there was no point in exploring that option. The rabbit had finished cooking on crackling flame, so Alita promptly removed it from the fire and savored every bite.

Alita sat in front of the floating translucent blue screen, its notifications gently waving in the air. Dismissing it for the moment, she continued eating the meager meal she had found. After finishing her meal, she constructed a simple shelter using leaves and sticks. She knew it wasn't much, but it would have to do for the night. She made a mental note to improve it the next day.

Despite the cold night, Alita managed to find some warmth in her improvised shelter. Being alone in the wilderness wasn't new to her; she had experienced colder nights. As the sun rose the next day, Alita decided it was time to start working on more practical gear. She needed a bow for hunting and some basic clothes for modesty's sake.

With the first light of day, Alita set off to gather the materials she needed. She collected supple vines, some unusually flexible wood, and amber tree sap, carefully extracting it from the trees scattered near the campsite. She also needed a better tool for the tasks ahead, so she crafted a longer and finer stone knife.

The day passed swiftly as she labored, her hands deftly working with the materials she had gathered. With patience and skill, she created glue from tree sap and charcoal, then fashioned a flexible makeshift bow with 15 arrows. She also crafted a sharp spear, carefully attaching a stone tip to the end, using both trees and vines in its construction.

"This should be good enough..." - Alita

Alita saw the notification but quickly dismissed it once more. I got up from my camp to go hunting for something big. She made straps and a quiver to hold the spear, bow, and arrows.

'I need a decent-sized pelt to make any useful clothing.' - Alita

The hunt was on, driven by her sharpened instincts and enhanced senses as she prowled through the wilderness, keenly aware of every rustle and scent. She encountered an array of small creatures—rabbits, beavers, and foxes—but today's quarry required more substantial prey. Her focus was on a larger game: a deer, a bear, or a boar. Among these, the deer or boar were preferable; their meat was reliable and edible, unlike the unpredictable and untrustworthy flesh of a bear.

Two hours into her search, a sound caught her attention—swift and substantial. It was a moose, a sizable one. She crept closer as the moose paused to graze. With practiced precision, Alita nocked an arrow and drew her bow, her eyes narrowing as she locked onto her target. Her heartbeat steadied, her breath fell into a calm rhythm, and with a sharp exhale, she released the arrow. It sliced through the moose's hide, striking its lung with deadly accuracy.

The moose bolted, desperate to flee its impending doom, but Alita was relentless. She slung her bow across her back and drew her spear, ready to close the distance. The moose's flight was hampered by the pain and the severe injury, its movements sluggish and labored as Alita pursued, undeterred and focused.

Alita jumped high as she trusted her spear to go directly through the moose's windpipe. The Moose fell to the ground, gasping for air, but Alita wouldn't let the creature suffer. She thrusted the spear into the eye socket of the moose, and with a powerful twist, the moose went limp.

Alita fell to her knees, breathing heavily from the hunt, she was focused, but adrenaline pumped through her veins as well. Grabbing some vines from a nearby tree, she used them to the limbs of the moose and dragged them back to her camp, which was 30 minutes.

"Nice job, you're not only exhausted, but you have to drag this big ass fucker back to camp..." - Alita

As the golden sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the landscape, the world seemed to exhale, surrendering to the embrace of twilight. Prey and predator alike settled into the comforting rhythm of dusk, retreating to their sanctuaries for the night. Yet, amidst this tranquil retreat, one figure stood out, a solitary silhouette against the fading light, meticulously chopping and slicing into the robust body of a moose with an unnatural dexterity that sent chills down the spine.

The campfire blazed with an intense brilliance, its flames dancing and crackling, illuminating the scene with a fierce warmth. What had once been a hastily assembled shelter now transformed into a sturdy tent, supported and fortified, ready to withstand the night's encroaching chill. The air was thick with the scent of wood smoke and the primal act of survival, signaling that while the day came to a close, the night's true endeavors were just beginning.
