Chapter 1 - The Call

In a simple room, the ground littered randomly with clothes, a young man nearing his late teens opened his eyes.

A pair of deep green orbs grace the empty room as he sighed softly, he gave off a scholarly aura, yet at this moment, this scholarly youth is sweating profusely.

It's that nightmarish dream again!

Dreaming about carnage and violence and ultimately dying every time!

As if to add to his problems, he noticed that it is Monday!

'Indeed the old man is right, nothing ever goes as planned' He scoffed, first thing first, he took a nearby diary lying beside his bed.

The room is simple and small with two beds, two tables, a single clothe stand with a few patched up jackets hanging, a phone on a small stool beside his bed and two tables one of which was filled with crumbled papers and the other, a gaming set.

Opening the diary he started to scribble the recent events.

1st August, 2104.

I am starting to believe that my beloved little elf doesn't love me anymore, couple with the recent words from my friend, it is still stuck in my head like a nightmare. It was as if… as if she's in love with him and in his own words, he tried to tell her off but she even made him believe that they are in love like wtf? Did he take me for a fool?

He paused and stared at the paper for a while, yesterday's events still vivid in his mind.

Dammit, nothing is good anymore, I was ousted by my own guild, all aspects of my existence are falling behind and I don't even know what's happening to me at this point… for now… I decided to term it as…

"Whoa big bro what are you doing?" A young boy about fourteen to fifteen years of age excitedly asked while holding a white box but his excitement vanished upon seeing the book in Alan's hand.

He possessed dark blue eyes a defining feature of their father couple with his handsome face which possessed sharp features that seemed to scream "Dashingly handsome" the boy had an unrestrained and confident aura to him unlike his scholarly brother, as if daring to do anything.

This is his chatterbox of a brother, Arin.

He is the type that is guaranteed to leave a lasting expression on everyone who saw him.

At this moment, he is in casual clothing, Blue jeans and gray T-shirt.

"You are still stuck with the boring habit of elderly people from the last century… Tsk, What an L habit" The boy commented whilst sitting beside his brother.

"Yea I know… all I'm good at is writing novels, I'm not even good at gaming anymore" Alan sighed and as if struck by an epiphany, his eyes widen as he quickly wrote "Regression" and closed his little book.

"Whatever…" His brother dismissed but he suddenly seemed to remember something.

"Aha! About that new game, Ascension!"

"What about it?" Alan asked, his voice uninterested.

"You can make real money from that game and the trailers are so so good-!"

"Yea shut it, Arin. I'm not playing, I've already rejected the offers of those so called big companies. I'll just focus on my studies and write books" Alan interrupted which made Arin frowned.

This big brother of his is becoming more and more eccentric and rude lately, but knowing the strange happenings recently, he decided to cut him some slack.

"Anyways, I took one of the headsets on loan and will repay back when I earned some cash in the game, you can also do the same and we-"

"Yea yea, good luck" Alan interrupted and grabbed the phone on the stool beside his bed.

Arin frowned but said nothing, his frown vanishing the moment he set his eyes on the white box, he excitedly start to unbox the gaming headset.

Meanwhile Alan brushed his teeth and grabbed his jacket, going out and taking a ride to seaside on his trusty old bike.

Beep! Beep! Beep!

Three consecutive beeps sounded while he idly gaze at the sea, he casually checked his phone.

Suddenly his bored expression disappeared when he saw an incoming call from his mother.

Why will his mum call this early in the morning? She should be at home by this time so no need for a call, right?

Unfortunately that is not the case.

Hurriedly he answered the phone and the first sound that reached his ears made him frowned, it is a sob!

"Mum.. Mum what's happened?" Alan hurriedly asked.

"Alan… I…"

"Yes mum, tell me, calm down and tell me what happened?" Alan forced himself to calm down yet he is unable to stop pacing around.

He could hear his mother taking a deep breath, now in a more composed voice, she said, "Alan, please… just meet me at your father's office, I need to see you. We need to talk in person, its urgent"

Alan nodded, since his mother said so, then it must be urgent!

"And don't tell Arin a word about this" She warned sternly.

"Sure, I'll be there in a few minute" With a racing heart, he started his bike.
