Episode 7: Title Defense And The WBA Flyweight Target

"The end comes in round number 1, the official time is 2 minutes and 46 seconds as the referee calls to the hall for the action, winner and new~~~! ABCO and WBC and Flyweight Champion of the world….. Victor "The Asian Pretty Boy" Moriiiiinnnnnn~!"

As the ring announcer announced my win, my coach kept jumping with the ABCO and WBC belts around me and celebrated like he won a lottery, I laughed out loud mentally.

After the celebration in the ring, both the coach and I exited the hall and went back to our waiting room. There, mom and dad waited and saw me coming inside. They came forward as the three of us hugged each other. Mom and dad cried as both congratulated me.

I thanked them for their support and while we did the dramatic celebration, my coach called to tell me that some reporters wanted to go inside for an interview. I looked at mom and dad, their eyes were all jumping in happiness as they nodded their heads. They let go of me and went to the back and sat on the chair available in the room.

My coach opened the door as he allowed some reporters to get inside. I saw them and rushed at me asking me questions like how I feel and how do I feel to be undefeated and unpunched in the face since I started professionally.

I answered them candidly without saying any controversial thoughts. After the interviews, they all left and were replaced by the organizers who handed over our profit share. Since the contract says we get 30% of the share, we were given a clean $45,000.

Of course, I gave $15,000 to coach Aaron, he wanted to refuse but he met my gaze so he was forced to take it. Mom, dad and I decided to stay for a week of vacation here in Thailand while the coach decided to go back for rest reasons.

After a week of touring Thailand, we went back to the Philippines. Of course I did my usual exercises daily, even when we were in Thailand. As for some other people, my coach told me about these promoters who wanted to sign me. I asked the coach to relay my offer. If they could not meet my requirement of 5 years contract, minimum of 3 fights per year, purse share of 20%, pay per view share of 35%, and other earning shares of 15%, coach should refuse.

And as expected, most of these promoters sneered at my counter offer. Only those who were low tier promoters came to terms with my offer.

And after checking the details handed to me by coach Aaron, I saw a familiar promoter's name, it says on the paper as "ARA Promotions", I remembered this promotion company that was defunct by 2020 due to a certain Television station's fault as well as the COVID-19 pandemic.

I saw on paper the sample contract they gave me and they even lowered their shares on some parts of my earning such as instead of 15% for other earnings, they lowered it to 10%, while pay per view goes to 30% and purse share to 18% after all taxes were calculated. I smiled seeing their counter offer so I called coach Aaron to contact ARA Promotions for me to sign their contract. Of course, I asked mom and dad to help me get a good lawyer to be on my side when I sign the contract to avoid any mishaps.

They both approved of my plan so they called a friend on the signing date.

//

In the last week of June 2006, I signed a contract with ARA Promotions for 5 years. As for coach Aaron, we both agreed for 10% purse share after all taxes were deducted.

And since there were 6 months left before the year ended, I urged my promoter to get me the WBC's top 3 ranked flyweight boxer, which was an Italian named Andreia. Before the end of July 2006, my promoter and that italian's promoter agreed for a 60% and 40% split on purse profit as well as for the pay per view share, with me getting the higher share. The fight will be held in Italy by October 2006.

//

When the fight contract was signed between me and my opponent's promoters, the fight sold like wildfire in the Philippines as well as in Italy. Of course, it was not global yet as flyweight was not yet as big as those with higher weight categories. Still, this fight was being promoted in both countries. Online people also started fighting, Italians versus Filipino netizens at the time just kept on trashing each other.

As for me, I do the usual training and just simply follow my coach's instructions. I have to say, faking my strength really makes me wonder how hard would I hit if I go 100%. I shake my head every time I think of it.

As weeks went by, boxing fans of both countries got heated and anticipation was high. Some Filipinos in Italy even pre-ordered tickets to my fight and some from the Philippines went to book flights just to watch my fight, of course, ARA Promotion contracted a Television station to televise my fight.

//

Coach Aaron and I, along with my promoter's people, flew to Italy 1 week before the fight. It was scheduled on the weekend, the second week of the month, so the Italian audience was really expected to be jam packed.

After landing, we were accommodated in a hotel then we went to a nearby gym to do some light work out. Italian and Filipino media personnel even went to the gym to go see me train, of course, only a few of them did, I am not that famous here.

//

1 day before the fight, Italian media intensified their promoting the fight because it has been a long time since there was a flyweight champion that hailed from their country. So for this event, almost all Italians will be attending the fight at the "PalaLottomatica", and I expect everyone will be booing me as hard as they can.

I felt so much joy just imagining that, playing their hopes up for 11 rounds then crushing it by 12th. I could not wait to see their faces. I giggled thinking of it but my coach saw me and asked me what's funny, I just shrugged and returned my attention to his titter tatter tactics review.

//

The fight day arrived and both the coach and I waited in our room to be called, I saw the undercard fights, most of them were like my fight, Filipino versus Italians. 4 undercards before the main event.

As time passed by, a personnel came knocking and opened the door, he told us to get ready. There I knew that the fight was on. When the staff came back and asked us to start walking to the arena, coach Aaron put on my red robe and hooked the hood over my head. My fighting music started playing.

*Eyes of the Liger*

Yeah, I copied Many Packs' famous entrance song and I do not feel any shame. It was a cool ass song.

When I entered the main area, the whole arena booed as I walked. I ignored but felt coach Aaron's shaking body. I gripped his shoulders to let him feel that we'll fight it through. He looked back at me for a bit and stopped shaking. I knew he was game on at that moment.

//

The officials started checking me and when they found nothing abnormal, they allowed me and coach Aaron to pass through and I started stepping on the ladder toward the ring.

All I could hear were the audience's cheers and boos. I love it. I never knew such noise would be a great melody for my ears. I wonder what life these people will lead when 2024 comes for their lives.

//

The bell rang and a ring announcer started talking.

"Fighting out of the blue corner, wearing green trunks with white and red, fighting out of Sardegna, Italy, with 24 wins 3 losses and 1 defeat, the hope and pride of Italy's boxing, the Sardinia's Rocky Balboa...… the current EBU Flyweight Champion! The challenger for WBC Flyweight Belt, Andreia..... Surrrrriiizaaaaa!"

The crowd went nuts after they heard their boxing bets. As for me.

"Fighting out of the red corner, wearing black trunks,, fighting out of Manila Philippines, with 14 wins, no losses and defeats, the newest and defending WBC Flyweight Champion of the world! Hailed as Asia's Pretty Boy! Victorrrrrrr… "Pretty Boy"… Moooorrriiiiiiiiin!"

Boos came in after my name was announced, anyway, I smirked at that, they had no idea what's coming. Coach Aaron removed my robe and started applying vaseline on my face. After that, the referee called us to explain the rules. When he finished, Andreia and I touched gloves and went back to our respective corners.

//

Coach gave me powerful words before exiting the ring. Now, only me, the referee and my opponent were left inside the ring, the bell rang and the first round started, the crowd went ballistic.

However, contrary to what they expect, as rounds go by, the boos intensified, why? I kept my boxing style relevant for the next 11 rounds. While my opponent kept on attacking, I kept on evading and deflecting his punches. Even himself was quite annoyed at how I fought. Maybe his coach was also devising to trap me in a corner but would I allow it? Let's dance brother!

While I did dance all throughout the 11 rounds, I did some significant damage to his body. Although it's for selected punches, they were all 100% hits. As for my opponent, he has yet to land a single punch on my face, so he tried to do my body, which I allowed to go in a few times to make the match exciting for the crowd. However, the crowd kept uttering "Face" in their language. You, I understood what you all were saying, but it will never happen in this lifetime.

After the 11th round, I noticed my opponent's slowed down reactions, and my plans were going well. It was time to finish the fight.

As the bell rang to start the 12th round, my opponent came forward a bit slower but I came forward and rushed up to him. I could see the surprise in his eyes.

Without hesitation, he threw a jab but I deflected it and quickly threw a right hook toward his temple. It was so fast that it hit the target cleanly. I could see his groggy reaction when my hook landed so I followed with a barrage of uppercuts, left hooks, and combinations. When the timer reached the 1 minute mark, Andreia was already down on the canvas. The referee started counting and when the count reached 10, he quickly announced that the fight was over.

//

After announcing my victory, we went back to the waiting room, where I saw the staff of my promotion team and started walking towards the main guy and asked him to set up a fight in January 2007 for the WBA top 2 ranked flyweight boxer. The dude was shocked when he heard my words, I shook my head and tapped his shoulder, I sat and coach Aaron started undoing my gloves.

When all was done, the purse's share was handed to us worth $170,755.20, Italian taxes were already removed. As for taxes to the Philippines, my purse prize went down to $136,604.16. With my promoter and coach's percentages, my total winning prize became $95,622.

With regards to the PPV share, we earned a total of 40 million dollars as my share of the 15% and with less taxes from both countries as well as the shares from my promoter and other partners, then giving my coach $100,000 as an extra fee, I was left with $4,335,200 for pay per view profit!

I became rich overnight, that was PHP 219,560,000 pesos!
