Episode 5: Boxing Rank Goes Up

When both me and my coach landed in the Philippines, my mother and father were waiting for us. They both hugged me and asked if I was doing alright, I assured them and told them I finished the fight in just 1 minute.

The infamy of what I did has yet to reach the country as I'm still a relatively unknown boxer in the asian region. However, my fight was televised so many people should have seen it. With a meager $3,000 paycheck from the last fight, I gave $1,500 to my coach. I don't need much money yet, my parents even gave me extras when we flew out, I haven't touched it and it was still in my bank account.

My coach even told me to just give him $500 but I insisted so he gave in.

However, such 1 rounder fights should not be always, I must control it til' the final rounds. Boxing is entertainment and a show, if I could not satisfy that, the fans will lose interest. They may praise me but will not watch my fights assuming I will finish it off in 1 round.

I decided to follow my coach's plan up until the round before the final one. In the final one, I'll knock them out and that should earn me some fame and infamy. A dangerous counter puncher boxer who finishes opponents at the final round.

Coach was one thing but I need a solid promoter. Bib Arun, the current promoter of Many Pac was one, but knowing the future, this shitty promoter loves to sell his boxers when betting odds are in his favor. Well, that would be easy to deal with, I could just kill him when he threatens my life to do his requests.

Whatever it was, I told my coach about my plans. He agreed but warned me.

//

After a few weeks, the result of my fight in Thailand reached those who were supposed to reach and many contacted my coach wanting to know if I have a current promoter.

My coach reached out to me and my parents and told us about the different promoters who want me in their stable. When he listed and mentioned "Tap Rock" I quickly asked the coach to contact them for negotiation.

Coach seemed to know some things and so, he nodded and went out to contact Tap Rock.

//

After some time, representatives from Tap Rock came to our house and talked to me and my parents while my coach was on the sideline.

They gave me the "good" talk and then showed me their contract. I read it and saw the traps they added, and so, I asked them to amend the contract with 15% promoter purse share, 30% pay per view share, 15% sponsor share as well as other earnings for 15%.

The representatives looked at each other and smiled, they said their advantages to us and asked for max 33.3% purse share 50% pay per view share while making 30% on other earnings.

I shook my head responding to their offer, these guys were really greedy, and the contract is for 15 years? These guys were making me laugh out loud. I countered their offer of 5 years 3 minimum fights per year, 20% purse share, 35% Pay Per View share and 15% other earning shares.

They heard my counter offer and all of them shook their heads. They told us that those were only for famous athletes and I am just a nobody. Well, they had their chances, they will regret it soon enough.

I shook their hands for their efforts and they went off.

As for my coach, he just tapped my shoulders and said goodbyes to me and my parents. Even my parents asked me why I did that, I just made a mysterious excuse for them.

I went back and did my training.

//

As for other promoters, I asked the coach to ignore them and continue accepting fights, even if I receive small fees, not for long, these guys will kneel in front of me begging to have me sign their contracts.

And so, my coach got a call from another manager from Thailand, a thai boxer who has no defeat record, 20 wins, 2 draws, 0 losses and 15 knockouts. 12 rounds of boxing.

As for me, I only have 8 wins, 0 losses and 8 knockouts.

It seemed that someone deliberately wanted to test me or break me. Whichever it was, I will defeat them.

//

We flew out of the country again after 3 months and fought the said undefeated boxer, however after the 11th round, I knocked out my opponent 1 minute before the 12th round ended.

The crowd loved the action, I intentionally let my opponent hit my body, however, his frustrations were written all over his face when he could not even graze the skin of my face.

My "Pretty Boy" fame within this country was already gaining traction. Celebrating, my new record has become 9 wins, 0 losses and 9 knockouts. My rank within the flyweight division has gone up as well.

What's surprising was that I earned $5,000 in this fight. Thus, I shared $2,000 to my coach and kept the $3,000.

//

Before the end of 2005, I have fought over 3 more bouts and I've won them all. Earning me a substantial amount of money, as well as my coach, who has become somewhat my manager.

My new record has become 12 wins, 0 losses and 12 knockouts.I'm now within the upper middle ranks of flyweight division in the world and within the upper ranks of asian division.

As for my stats, it increased too.
