The scene opens in the grand hall of the castle. Majestic columns line the walls, and banners bearing the kingdom's crest sway gently in the breeze from the open windows. Kneeling on the pristine marble floor are the summoned heroes, their heads bowed before King Aldrian, a man with a commanding presence clad in ornate robes adorned with gold and crimson. The flickering light of the chandeliers casts long shadows, emphasizing the tension in the room.
The king's voice, deep and authoritative, echoes through the chamber.
"We have a matter of utmost importance. A town in the northern regions has resisted our offers of allegiance. They reject our guidance, our protection, and instead grow bolder by the day." His gaze sweeps over the assembled heroes. "We've received reports that this town harbors powerful warriors, possibly rivals to our cause. I need you to go there, teach them a lesson, and remind them who rules this land."
A chorus of voices rises in unison.
"Yes, Your Majesty!"
Among the kneeling figures, one hero stands out—a tall young man with long brown hair tied back into a loose ponytail. A glint of menace dances in his eyes as he grips his spear tightly. Slowly, he rises and smirks.
"This will be too easy," he says, his voice dripping with arrogance. "I'll crush them, every last one, and take what's rightfully ours." His laughter fills the hall, unsettling some of the younger heroes.
The king's expression remains impassive, but his eyes flicker with approval.
"Go forth, and may you bring glory to this kingdom."
The Front Lines
Moments later, a royal advisor rushes into the queen's chamber, his face pale and his breathing labored.
"Your Majesty!" he exclaims, falling to one knee. "The front lines are under attack. The barbarians are pushing harder than ever, and our forces cannot hold them back. We need reinforcements immediately."
Queen Selene rises from her seat, her serene expression giving way to concern.
"Summon the other heroes," she commands. "Inform them of the situation and ensure they prepare for battle. This kingdom's borders must not fall."
The advisor bows deeply. "At once, Your Majesty!" He dashes out of the room, leaving the queen to contemplate the growing chaos. She gazes out the window, her hands clasped tightly, whispering to herself,
"Will our strength be enough?"
Nobara Kugisaki
The scene shifts to a bustling marketplace in a neighboring town. Nobara Kugisaki, an otherworlder hero, walks confidently through the crowd. She is striking, with her long black hair tied loosely behind her and her sharp black eyes scanning her surroundings. Beside her floats a tiny fairy, her companion and confidant, a glowing figure with delicate wings. Behind Nobara, her team of adventurers follows, each member equipped with weapons and armor befitting seasoned warriors.
The townspeople watch with awe and curiosity, murmuring amongst themselves.
"Is that the hero from another world?"
"She's so young, yet so powerful..."
"And beautiful too!"
Nobara walks with purpose, her face composed but her mind racing with thoughts. She glances at her team and speaks, her voice steady but tinged with determination.
"We need to be ready for anything. The king's orders aren't always straightforward. There's always more to these missions than they let on."
One of her teammates, a burly swordsman with a scar across his cheek, chuckles.
"Whatever it is, we've got this. With you leading us, nothing can stand in our way."
The fairy flutters close to Nobara's ear.
"Still, don't you think it's strange? The reports about that town—they sound... exaggerated."
Nobara nods slightly, her expression turning contemplative.
"Strange or not, we follow orders. But we'll tread carefully."
A Glimpse into the Past
The scene fades into a memory, a brightly lit high school hallway bustling with students. Nobara walks gracefully, dressed in her crisp school uniform, holding a stack of papers close to her chest. Her long black hair flows as she moves, and her expression is calm, exuding the confidence of a leader.
Suddenly, a blur of motion—Kazuki, also in his school uniform, rushes through the hallway, late for class. He collides with Nobara, the papers in her hands scattering across the floor. Nobara stumbles and falls, landing ungracefully.
"I'm so sorry!" Kazuki exclaims, his voice filled with panic as he crouches to gather the papers. "I was in a hurry!"
Nobara forces a tight-lipped smile, her sharp canines peeking through.
"It's fine," she says, though a flash of annoyance flickers in her eyes. She takes the papers from him, her expression smoothing out into a calm mask. "No harm done."
As Kazuki helps her up, he suddenly recognizes her.
"Oh! You're the school president, right?"
She nods, adjusting her papers. "Yes, but it's just a title. Nothing more."
Kazuki grins, admiration evident in his tone.
"That's amazing! You must be really smart and hardworking to be president."
Nobara's expression softens, and she smiles genuinely. "Thank you. I hope you have a great future too." She turns and walks away, her composure intact, while Kazuki dashes off, muttering about how late he is.
The memory transitions to another moment: Nobara standing on a stage in front of the entire school. The students cheer and clap as she steps up to the podium, radiating poise and confidence.
"Fellow students," she begins, her voice clear and commanding. "Our school is more than just a place to learn. It's a community, a foundation for our futures. Let us cherish it, and let us work hard to achieve greatness—not just for ourselves, but for those who come after us."
Her words resonate through the hall, and the applause is thunderous. Nobara smiles, the perfect image of a leader, but deep down, a flicker of doubt crosses her mind. Is this really all there is to life?
The Present
The memory fades, and we return to the present. Nobara walks through the marketplace, her mind briefly lingering on that past life. She sighs softly, her fairy companion tilting its head in curiosity.
"Something on your mind?" it asks.
"Just... remembering," Nobara replies. "How different things used to be."
Her teammate approaches, holding a map.
"Leader, the town we're heading to is just over that ridge. Should we set up camp here for the night?"
Nobara nods, her determination returning. "Yes. We'll need our strength for what's to come."
As the team begins setting up, Nobara looks up at the stars, her thoughts drifting once again to her old world, her old life, and the fleeting moments she shared with Kazuki.
