Chapter 29 - Chapter 29 The Hunter Association's Request

After finishing his writing, Wen Wen shook his wrist, feeling a bit sore from holding the pen upright.

"Back when I used to write reports for the police, and now I have to write reports for the Hunter Association, and even on my own turf, I still have to write reports..."

Wen Wen could certainly write, but having an extra task to handle left him annoyed. How great would it be if he had a subordinate to help manage this massive containment facility?

"Very good, everything that needed improvement has been done. Now it's time to see what benefits this Iron Wings can bring me."

Wen Wen eagerly summoned the 'Calamity' gloves, intending to select Containment Room ZH-0001. However, after searching for a while, he couldn't find the option.

A bad feeling crept into his heart.

"Could it be... damn it! After all this work, I can't even use the Iron Wings?"

After a string of unmentionable curses, Wen Wen walked out of the containment warehouse with a sullen face.

The inability to use the power of the Iron Wings left him extremely displeased. He had spent so much time just to gain an additional ability, but it turned out to be all for nothing.

However, as long as he kept capturing more monsters and gaining more access rights, he would eventually be able to use these containment items.

Since the power of the Iron Wings was temporarily unusable, Wen Wen decided to check out his other gains.

The warehouse administrator's equipment was also stored in a silver briefcase. Like the containment staff's equipment box, it contained a complete set of white lab coats, including shoes but no underwear.

This white lab coat was likely worn by researchers in the containment facility, but it differed from the lab coats worn by doctors in reality. This one had a more casual style, suitable for wearing out and about.

The texture was similar to the containment staff's uniform but with slight differences, focusing on different functionalities.

In addition to the clothes, there was also a silver chest badge with Wen Wen's name and a number engraved on it.

Unlike the containment staff badge that only activated in moments of crisis, Wen Wen immediately noticed the difference as soon as he put on the chest badge.

He became calmer, and his attention more focused!

In these two aspects, Wen Wen was already superior to ordinary people. With this badge, the effect became even more pronounced.

After experiencing this feeling for a while, Wen Wen took off the badge and put it in his pocket.

He decided that he would only wear the badge when necessary. Excessive calmness and focus might not always be a good thing, and his usual state was sufficient.

As for the white lab coat...

Maybe he could use it as pajamas.

...

Late at night, under the bright light of the desk lamp, Wen Wen carefully carved a bamboo plaque with a knife, replicating the large rune from Calamity-0001's cell.

He wanted to see if the bamboo could absorb the rune's effects, but the results were not very promising.

The Calamity gloves were powerful, and given enough time, Wen Wen was confident he could surpass most superhumans. However, he also wanted to develop abilities of his own outside of the Calamity Containment Facility.

He wouldn't pin all his hopes on the mysterious Calamity Containment Facility. He needed to be in control even if the facility disappeared one day!

'I want... what's the use of this iron rod...'

A phone call interrupted Wen Wen's thoughts. He set down the bamboo plaque, knowing a job was coming his way. He only had one phone, and few people called him for non-work-related reasons.

No family, no friends, and even his connections with former classmates had been severed long ago. To everyone else, Wen Wen was just an insignificant figure, only known for his detective work.

Even if one day he died in some dark corner, people might lament, but no one would truly grieve...

"What's up, Captain Lin?" Wen Wen answered the phone with a smile, maintaining a professional demeanor.

"Detective Wen, I have a case I'd like to assign to you," Lin Zheyuan said tiredly, having gone several days without proper rest.

"Feel free to tell me about it. If it's beyond my capabilities, I won't accept it."

Lin Zheyuan paused. "A normal person would say they wouldn't refuse something within their abilities... Never mind. Do you remember those two people from the secret organizations?"

"Of course, I remember." Wen Wen was always keen on remembering potential enemies.

"That Mr. L has vanished, but the Bewitching Clown, Grandi, is severely injured. He should still be recovering somewhere in Furong River City. You're skilled at tracking; could you help find him?"

"Bewitching Clown Grandi... Is that the man in the red waistcoat?" Wen Wen asked in surprise, realizing for the first time the name of the man who had been with Wilson.

"Yes, that's him—Bewitching Clown Grandi, a member of the Mithril Brotherhood. He's a superhuman supremacist and extremely dangerous to ordinary people." Lin Zheyuan wouldn't have disclosed this information if he wasn't asking Wen Wen to capture the man.

Wen Wen stroked his chin. This was the first piece of information he'd learned about the secret organizations, so he curiously asked:

"You said he's badly injured. How badly?"

Since he was extremely dangerous to ordinary people, perhaps the Calamity Containment Facility would also be interested in him.

"Don't act recklessly, and don't overestimate your abilities. All I need you to do is find him," Lin Zheyuan warned sternly.

"Out of the five levels of superhuman abilities, he's at Sequence Four, 'Mastery,' and is already attempting 'Assimilation.' Even if he's seriously injured, he's not someone a newly awakened superhuman like you can handle."

Lin Zheyuan gave Wen Wen a serious warning. Newly awakened superhumans usually had a lot of confidence, but sometimes that confidence could become a death sentence.

"Alright, alright... But Furong River City is huge. You don't expect me to search blindly, do you?"

"The last time he was seen, he was with Wilson, who had just gained supernatural powers. Since he's a superhuman supremacist, I suspect he might be trying to make contact with other superhumans, or he might have other connections in Furong River City..." Wen Wen drawled.

"Just tell me what you want," Lin Zheyuan asked, frowning.

"I want all the intelligence related to supernatural activities in Furong River City. Of course, anything you can't share is fine."

Wen Wen expressed his need for intelligence—what he desired most. As a free hunter, he didn't have access to this information. Now that they needed his help, he saw an opportunity to make a request.

Lin Zheyuan hesitated. He felt Wen Wen had ulterior motives for wanting this intelligence, but after some thought, he nodded.

"I'll give you the information you want, but I expect you to do your best. This information is valuable."

"Even if the information is valuable, I still expect my usual fee. Intelligence is necessary for completing the assignment, but it doesn't count as payment," Wen Wen said, glaring.

Lin Zheyuan: "..."

He hadn't intended to shortchange Wen Wen's fee anyway.
