I still can't wrap my head around the fact that Miles didn't send that document. What bothers me even more is his denial—it makes me question what he's hiding and what could possibly be in that document. If there's nothing suspicious about it, why is he lying? What is he trying to hide from me?

Then again, what if he really didn't send it? What if Miles is innocent in all this? Could someone else be behind it? Someone working in our shadows, plotting to bring down the Diablo? If that's true, it means this person knows my real identity. They know everything we've been doing all this time—every secret, every move.

The sharp, shrill whistle of the kettle suddenly pulled me out of my spiraling thoughts. With a heavy sigh, I pushed myself off the kitchen island stool and walked over to the stove. Reaching out, I turned off the burner.
