MILES

I took it upon myself to prepare a special dinner for Renee and me. The effort consumed four painstaking hours to pull everything together. I carefully set the mood, arranging elegant red candles across the table and lighting them to cast a warm, flickering glow. 

On her side of the table, I placed red roses, hoping my effort will help fix things between us, even though we have been acting as though all is well.

We had both been pretending, skirting around the obvious tension. But I felt it in every conversation, every shared glance—the strain that had quietly woven itself into our relationship.

As I sank into my chair, I glanced at my wristwatch. My brow furrowed with unease. She was late—far later than I had expected. Earlier, I had sent her to Adan's place, just so she can make him even more tense and worried when I send the parcel to him but she is taking longer than expected.
