Chapter 7 - 7

  Chapter 125 "Common People's Feast"

The civilization in the Ice and Fire World is similar to that of medieval Europe, and the sanitation is very poor.

Fortunately, although Westeros developed for thousands of years in the Middle Ages without any progress in civilization, its hygiene has not been without any progress.

You have to know that in the Middle Ages in Jack's previous life, it was a hygiene nightmare.

For example, in 1533, a ceremony was held to celebrate Anne Boleyn becoming Queen of England.

The newly crowned queen toasted the guests with a smile and swayed her skirt to show her aristocratic grace.

But even if there is progress in Westeros, it is limited to the improvement of the nobles' residences.

Other places are still dirty, messy and poor, otherwise King's Landing would not stink so much.

People in the Seven Kingdoms do not use feces to "pollute the land."

Because the church believed that feces would pollute the land.

Of course, this is limited to the city.

Most rural people still use manure as fertilizer, which allows them to harvest more rye and barley.

Many people even go to the city to steal feces to irrigate the land.

But this still cannot change the current situation of the city.

Because as soon as the old feces leaves, it will be filled with new feces.

A large amount of animal feces mixed with human feces lies on the roadside. After a long time, they will dump the feces into the nearby river. Even the public wells are garbage dumps.

The end result is that people will have diarrhea and die after drinking the water.

The nobles mixed wine with water.

Fortunately, Last Hearth City is located very far to the north, and is the northernmost city in the Seven Kingdoms except for the newly added lands and Castle Black.

The cold weather effectively masks the stench of feces and rotting garbage.

In the end, Jack found a hotel that looked pretty good and stayed there.

The simple environment made Jack look sideways again, but fortunately the hotel sold pork sausage and vegetable soup.

Jack also ordered a glass of barley wine.

Only nobles could brew wheat wine. Commoners did not have the financial resources or qualifications to brew wine with wheat or eat bread made from wheat.

And although there is rice in Westeros, it has a slow maturity cycle and low yield.

In Westeros, only the great nobles sometimes choose to grow it to improve the taste.

After the pork sausage came up, Jack looked at the long black object in front of him and frowned.

Suppressing the resistance in his heart, Jack cut a piece of sausage and put it in his mouth.

The taste of "beauty" exploded from the tip of the tongue, and the fishy and smelly smell invaded Jack's taste buds.

The taste is like the red sausage that expired because it was not sold in the previous life of Malatang, just like chewing fishy plastic particles.

Don't ask Jack how he knows what unsold and expired sausages taste like, because everyone has complaints at times.

Jack had no choice but to quickly pick up the wooden wine glass and take a big gulp of beer.

A faint sour smell mixed with a lot of wheat husks rushed straight to the top of my head, and the smell of alcohol was very light, obviously it had been diluted with water.

This made Jack's face twist a little.

He finally understood why the best-selling Poseidon Brew was the Six Golden Dragons Trial Edition.

Because he still overestimated the winemaking technology of that era and the purchasing power of ordinary people.

Even the trial version of Poseidon Brew from Liu Jinlong still maintains its clear quality.

So just buy a high-proof Poseidon Brew and pour it into a bucket and it will become a big barrel of good wine.

Unless you want to save face, the most cost-effective option is the trial version of Poseidon Brew.

Because there is no distillation technology and yeast has limited resistance to alcohol, the alcohol content of the wine is not high.

But even if the alcohol content is not high, it is still wine, and no one can really drink wine like water.

The nobles of the seven countries, or the nobles of the world, all drink wine as if it were water, but that is only after mixing it with water.

Therefore, the nobles would mix wine and water in a ratio of 1:4 or 1:5 and then drink it as water.

You can even add other spices or honey to the wine.

Therefore, the trial version of Poseidon Brew is more like a seasoning, allowing them to mix twice the amount of fine wine.

But at all times, wine, especially noble red wine, is an absolute luxury.

The lower-class civilians do not have such good conditions.

Barley wine made from barley is mixed with barley husks and then added with water to create delicious barley wine.

Even so, a combination of pork sausage, vegetable soup and barley beer is considered a very rich meal in the eyes of civilians in the North.

Jack took a sip of the soup tentatively and found that although the thick soup didn't look very good, it had no taste at all.

Jack was overjoyed and quickly chopped the pork sausage into pieces and put it into the thick soup. The taste finally became a little better.

After finishing all the soup in the bowl, Jack took two sips of the clearer barley beer.

"Finally finished eating." Jack sighed.

Jack didn't want to waste food. This was something his father in his previous life had taught him through the painstaking advice of the Seven Wolves. More importantly, he spent money.

After finishing this meal of "common people's food", Jack decided to go back and ask the bar to develop a cheap beer.

It doesn't have to be like Poseidon's Brew, but at least it has to be something Jack can swallow. Its name is "Dare to the Deep Sea".

Wine is a luxury item no matter where it is. Even the Poseidon Wine on Poseidon Island is like this. 550 ml costs 6 silver coins.

So Jack decided to pick up the lower-level market again, which he had originally given up due to lack of manpower.

At the very least, the drunkards in Atlantis must have alcohol to drink at every meal.

Moreover, Jack had discovered in the past six months that people's demand for alcohol seemed to be far beyond his imagination.

Perhaps he can imitate Mouduoduo's strategy and capture the sinking low-consumption alcoholic beverage market.

It's no wonder that Jack hadn't thought of it before. The drinking culture in Western Europe and East Asia is different.

Firstly, there was a shortage of manpower at the beginning and it was impossible to increase production. Secondly, the drinking culture in Western Europe and East Asia is slightly different.

The winemaking culture of East Asia did not develop fruit wine, but instead used human food to make wine.

This means that although alcohol is a necessity, it is not a necessity for ordinary people. Ordinary people prefer to drink boiled water.

There was no habit of boiling water in Western Europe in the Middle Ages. Coupled with poor sanitary conditions and the popularity of fruit winemaking, alcohol became an excellent choice for people to replenish water.

The nobles drank fine wine.

The common people drank barley beer or rye beer, which tasted bad and contained many impurities.

But the number of civilians is not comparable to that of nobles, so when there are enough manpower and production, the profits in the grassroots wine market are also considerable.

Jack thought about the possibility of the "Dare to Die" business plan for a while, and then went to the room on the second floor to rest, hoping that the food in the Black Castle would be better.

Fortunately, the wooden stairs are quite sturdy and do not feel shaky.

Just after Jack went upstairs, the two people who were eating thick vegetable soup looked at each other, put down their bowls and followed him.
