Dark.
Cold.
Silent.
He remembered that the last thing he had done was eat his food. And talking to a Client about some requests in a case.
"Where is this?"
Looking at his surroundings, he found nothing he remembered. While Fortis Dexter was confused about where he was, a thick fog appeared before him, his vision went blurry, and he lost consciousness.
He wakes up to the sound of a crow and finds himself surrounded by mist. Fortis Dexter gets up and looks around, but nothing is visible within a few meters.
Confused about what happened to him, Fort looks straight into the mist. The only thing he sees is a crow and fog. Observing the surroundings, he finds himself in a ruined castle.
Fort walks between fragile pillars, and then he notices the change in his suit. He is wearing something unfamiliar, similar to clothes from the Victorian era.
He looks at the nearby water and sees that his face is still the same.
"Hufft" Fort sighs.
He was afraid that he might get transmigrated or get transferred into the body of someone else. Fortunately, that's not his case
He remains calm and checking his "new" Clothes.
Looking through the pocket of his 'new' clothes, he finds a revolver that is fully loaded with six bullets. Checking the other pocket, he finds a few items: an iron emblem with dragons and clouds engraved around it, surrounded by strange and ancient symbols, a green dagger, a bottle filled with black and white liquid, a piece of paper with random writing, and a bag containing 50 silver coins.
Among those items, the one he focuses on is an old book that seems ordinary but may contain knowledge from this world.
While checking his pocket, a source of light appears in the distance. Fort shouts at it, but the light vanishes into the mist.
In a desperate situation, Fort looks at his surroundings again and luckily, another source of light appears. He quickly runs into the mist, leaving behind the ruined castle.
Inside the mist, Fort loses track of the light while trying to catch his breath. He inspects the gun he found, which is in good condition and fully loaded.
He jumps to a conclusion, "Why has this revolver not been used? It's in perfect condition."
As he asks himself this, a feminine voice is heard behind him, accompanied by a laugh from behind the fog.
"Posteritates tenebrarum, Posteritates Spirituum, Oculi spirituum, Mundi proditores, Caelorum proditores, Fures temporis, Peccatores." A chanting voice accompanied by a laugh from behind the fog.
Hearing that, Fort quickly aims his revolver into the fog. The voice was feminine, and the laugh was very similar to a woman's laugh. After he does that, another sound is heard, but not with another laugh.
" Quid conaris, cur?"
In this whisper, there was no laughter to be heard.
Fort increased his awareness of his surroundings, pointing his Revolver at the foggy surroundings while hearing repeated questions. In that tension, a hand touched Fort's shoulder.
He deftly aimed his revolver at the head of the person behind him. The person then shouted, "Aaaaa!" He raised both hands, one of which carried a torch; seeing that, Fort lowered the revolver and apologized.
Responding to Fort's apology by patting him on the shoulder, the person then asked Fort
"Why are you wandering around in the thick fog in the morning?"
While keeping his revolver, Fort reasoned that he was lost and saw that person's torch.
Hearing that, the person introduced himself
"My name is Callie Lignea"
"I am in charge of guarding the village area in the morning and evening."
"What about your name?"
Asked like that, Fort then thought for a moment to estimate whether he could use the name of his earth here
After a few seconds, he finally decided on "Fort"
"My name is Fortis Dexter"
Just call me Fort.
Fort then observed Callie; she was not very tall but very brave, considering the amount of mist here in the morning. And possibly wild animals.
Callie nodded his head, then walked into the fog, taking Fort with him.
Fort, who had been lost for a long time, decided to follow him.
....
A few minutes later Fort and Callie arrived at a village with houses made of rocks and torches radiating everywhere to help with visibility in the fog. When Fort and Callie just entered the village, many residents gathered in one house.
A man who, according to Callie, is the owner of the house.
he cried uncontrollably.
"What's wrong with him"
Fort asked.
While exhaling, Callie then explained
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you this sooner."
"Something moving in the fog"
"?"
Fort raised an eyebrow curiously.
Then Callie continued to explain
"Every night here would be a knock on every door of the house and the one person who opened the door would disappear"
"Disappeared? Was it never found?"
Fort asked.
Callie then shook her head
And move on
"It's a pity that his daughter is the next unlucky person."
"What if no one opens the door?"
Fort asked again
"It's the same as he will still take one from one of the houses"
Callie answered.
Callie then took Fort to one of the empty houses in the village.
Callie then said to Fort
"This is a house that is usually rented out even though we haven't had any visitors for a while"
Before Fort could answer Callie spoke again
"Don't worry about cleanliness, we take good care of it"
"It costs 3 silver coins"
Fort then nodded his head and thanked Callie.
Callie disappeared behind the village residents' housing...
Opening the door, Fort saw a fairly large room that combined the living room and bedroom. He then closed the door and sat on the bed.
Many of the things he learned in this world were more or less from the magical and terrifying creatures that appeared in the fog.
He knows that this isn't Earth. He has no way to return for now.
Having no other things to do, he then opened the old book he had found in his "new" Clothes.
The contents of the book were written in a rather strange alphabet but Fort immediately recognized it within a few minutes of reading
"Latin!"
"So this world proposes the use of Latin in writing"
However, because of this, Fort increasingly wondered how he understood what they were saying. Although he can translate writing, his language skills are very subpar.
After being confused for a while, Fort then ignored that and focused on the contents of the Book he found.
Opening the book, he began to translate Latin into a language he understood.
