His 'mother's' expression became somewhat complicated.
She said, "It's a bit complicated. They used to be a part of the Wizard Civilization but separated due to differences in their ideologies. Long story short, they almost destroyed their new universe, putting them on the shit list of the governing forces of this multiverse.
As punishment, their civilization was destroyed and that universe began anew. They pulled one final trick by making sure that their bloodline continued. So, all of the humans that were born were their descendants. Although they didn't know or do anything, limiters were placed upon their bodies to prevent them from taking any Transcendent Path.
But the wizards of the past were cunning. They had already foreseen this and found a way to go around those limiters. That was by relying on beasts. People in this civilization can awaken an innate talent and a contract grimoire when they become 12 years old.
Then they can contract beasts or other races with their grimoires. They have no such limiters, but their growth period is much slower. With these contracts, their growth period can decrease, and humans can take the Transcendent Path, so it's a win-win for both parties.
And we, the governing forces of this multiverse, could do nothing about it as the Wizards of the past had already repaid their Bad Karma with their destruction and the imposition of limiters on their descendants. Although we don't treat them negatively, their Transcendent Path doesn't get a description."
After much deliberation, Jonathan chose the Beast Taming Civilization. He wanted to explore the various races here. As a biologist and doctor, nothing fascinated him more. Also, he just loved animals. He also missed his pet dogs. His 'mother' looked at him and asked, "Are you sure?"
"Yes," replied Jonathan.
She said, "Very well." A very long number appeared above his soul. Then, the number decreased. She said, "Each choice that you make will cost you Karma."
Jonathan kept that in mind and moved on to the Race and Sex tab. He instantly selected Human (Wizard Bloodline) and Male options. He did so because only humans with the wizard bloodline could awaken grimoires. Then he moved on to the Status tab. A list appeared in front of him. He filtered the poor statuses such as slave, servant, etc. Then he was left with ten options.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Crown Prince of an Empire
2. Nobility of an Empire
3. Descendant of a Fallen Noble House
4. Young Master of a Strong and Rich Family
5. Bastard Son of a Strong and Rich Family
6. Lost Descendant with a Strong Ancestor (Alive)
7. Lost Descendant with a Strong Ancestor (Dead)
8. Son of an Upper-Middle Class Family
9. Son of a Middle Class Family
10. Son of a Lower-Middle Class Family
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Jonathan instantly ruled options 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, and 10 out. First of all, he wasn't a big fan of Empires and Nobility. Second, the risk of assassination was too high with these options.
After all, human greed knew no bounds. The same with options 4 and 5. He ruled out 7 because he didn't know if this dead strong ancestor had any alive strong enemies who could kill him. Finally, he ruled out 9 and 10 because this Transcendent Path would require a lot of resources.
He asked, "Can I choose two options?"
His 'mother' replied, "You can. But the cost will increase exponentially. But that really isn't a problem for you."
In the end, Jonathan chose both options 6 and 8. He would be born in an upper-middle class family and have a strong ancestor who was ignorant of his existence. He finally clicked on the last tab, Karmic Talents.
A list of different abilities appeared in front of him. His 'mother said, "You can choose two Karmic talents from this list. One of the two will become your innate talent while the other will become a part of your grimoire."
Jonathan was confused. His 'mother' continued, "Sometimes, people in the Beast Taming Civilization awaken mutated grimoires. Their grimoires have a special ability that others don't.
Carefully look through the list and see if something catches your eye. If it doesn't, you can also design one yourself. But the stronger it is, the higher the cost."
First, he used the filter function to remove any elemental related Karmic Talents, buffs, debuffs, and a bunch of different types of Karmic Talents. Due to this, almost 90% of the list was filtered out.
After thinking about it a bit, he also removed all Karmic Talents that made him close to a particular type of beasts. His 'mother' looked at him with interest, wondering what he would choose.
This wasn't the first time she was dealing with someone who was eligible for a Grade 9 Rainbow Reincarnation Package. The one thing that they all had in common was that they made the most interesting choices.
Jonathan found some options that were suitable for him. The problem was that they were too suitable. He asked, "Can I also choose more options if I can afford to pay for them?"
His 'mother said, "Of course, you can. But the cost will increase tremendously with every additional choice that you make. It might be too much, even for you. So try not to overdo it."
Jonathan was very happy. He first decided to create a Karmic Talent. It would allow him to keep the memories of this life into the next. Just as he was about to finish, his 'mother' stopped him.
She said, "You can't do that. Memories from past life, especially if you're from a different world, are strictly prohibited. Too many reincarnators with memories of their past lives have messed around too much.
They have caused disasters on scales that you can't even imagine. Remember how those wizards almost destroyed their new universe? A reincarnator with memories of her past life was responsible. She had created a Karmic Talent, Glimpses of the Past.
She would get flashbacks until she had regained her memory. And then she tried to change the Wizard Civilization, causing a war that almost destroyed that universe. So you can't do that, no matter how much Karma you have."
