Chapter 10 - Zombie At The Night

Saturday 16.08.2024 10:46 pm

It was dark outside. I opened the door slightly and stuck my head out.

"Buy an extra slot and night vision"

[Shop] [AP 114 (149 - 35)]

After purchasing the skill and using it, everything seemed as clear as day.

"Fuck, I was right after all" - focusing on the zombie I slowly started to feel more and more danger. Every zombie stood still. I slowly picked up a stone and threw it with all my strength in front of me.

"I guess the tent won't be useful after all" - a moment after I threw the stone, dozens of zombies gathered around it and more were coming. First of all, corpses were much faster at night. If they could run after you at a trot during the day, at night they ran like a sprinter in a 100-meter dash. Their hearing was also many times better at night than during the day.

Slowly closing the door I returned to Samantha. The sounds from outside did not affect her sleep.

"I need to work out a plan for our future now" - Considering that zombies are much stronger and more observant at night, I need to build a safe place where we can rest. Even if I upgrade the ability to reduce sleep requirement, I will still have to sleep for an hour. Within an hour, with enough sound and enough zombies, several thousand zombies will approach in an instant.

I need to find a building with at least 3 or 4 stories. Even if the zombies are several times stronger, I doubt they will be able to jump 12-15 meters.

But I can leave the search for buildings for later. For now, I need to find a city large enough to have a constant supply of points. The nearest larger city is Koszalin, and a little further I have the Tri-City, i.e. Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot. There will definitely be many more zombies in the Tri-City because these are tourist cities and currently it is a time when young people have holidays, so they go there with their families.

In addition, the Motława River flows through Gdańsk and the Baltic Sea is nearby. If things get tough, I can always jump into the sea. I doubt that zombies will be able to swim, much less go under the waves. You might think that the safest thing would be to make a base on the water. You're right, all I had to do was find a yacht and I could easily survive for several decades just collecting food for my equipment.

But! This is not how it should look. I have to kill zombies and not relax on a yacht and live my whole life with remorse that I did nothing. Of course, to reach other continents I will be able to use boats, but having the system I am sure that I will be able to buy planes and even the skills to fly them.

With a base in the building I will be able to collect zombies and then eliminate them en masse. Now I just need to find the skills to expand my base.

[Shop]

[Craft] [50 AP] - a skill that allows you to create, repair and upgrade weapons, tools and equipment from available materials.

[Construction] [500 AP] - A skill that allows you to build, reinforce, and repair shelters and fortifications in a zombie-infested world. With this ability, you can create safe bases, barricades, and traps that protect against undead attacks and other threats. Construction also allows you to expand existing structures, such as adding watchtowers, creating underground tunnels, or reinforced doors.

[Blacksmithing] [100 AP] - a skill that allows you to craft, repair, and upgrade metal weapons and tools in the world of the zombie apocalypse. The blacksmith can melt scrap metal and other raw materials to create sturdy blades, axes, war hammers, and armor, which are essential in the fight against the undead. This skill also allows you to strengthen existing weapons, add spikes, or sharpen edges, which increases their effectiveness in battle.

"Hufff" - I didn't expect some skills to be expensive. The price of the building itself costs 500 AP. If it has at least 3 levels, upgrading just this skill will cost 3500 points.

Crafting will be useful for me in creating weapons and also maintaining them. Although system items are of much higher quality, they still break. The barrel in my pistol almost overheated once, which would have resulted in the weapon breaking. On top of that, there is the price of some items. The Molotov cocktail itself costs 5 AP, and making it myself will cost me nothing.

The next required skill is construction. No matter when and where it will always come in handy. Whether it's for building a base or quickly securing a temporary resting place. With this ability I will be able to relax after a hard day without worrying if a zombie will walk in on me while I'm sleeping.

The last skill that belongs to the crafting category is blacksmithing. Thanks to blacksmithing I can create traps. For example, the most popular barricades with spikes. By digging a trench around the base filled with such barricades I will be able to stop the approaching zombies for some time.

"Hmm, let's count. Crafting 50, blacksmithing 100, construction 500 and 3 slots" - the total cost for the skills alone will be 725 AP, which is how much I've earned so far.

"If I blow up the station tomorrow I should collect enough points. So now I need to find a place from which I will be able to take the appropriate materials for expansion and also the place where our future base will be" - the best place would be some towns around or suburbs.

"Tomorrow we'll think about where to stop, now let's go to sleep" - it was almost 12 pm so I quickly went to sleep next to Samantha. The stress of the whole day hit me like a truck and I fell asleep immediately.

Slowly opening my eyes I felt like I was lying tied by a rope. Quickly looking around I noticed Samantha hugging me like an octopus. Without disturbing her I slowly pulled out my phone and checked the time. It was after five. She had slept for over 7 hours so she should wake up soon, for now I will check if there are any factories or construction stores on the way. Browsing Google Maps I found a few places on the route to the Tri-City. Interestingly, things like electricity, water, coverage and internet were still working. The moment I wrote down the route my octopus started waking up.

"Good morning Samantha"

"hmm.. mm.. good morning.."

"Did you get enough sleep?"

"yhymm.."

"Then maybe you will finally get off of me?"

"hm..?"

"Awww awww s-sorry" - she quickly let go of me and moved to the other side of the bed.

"I'm going to make breakfast, in the meantime you get ready"

*Whisper* "Fine," she replied, blushing.

10 minutes later I returned with scrambled eggs and two coffees. Samantha was sitting there, busy deflating the mattress.

"Quite intelligent," I muttered quietly.

"Come on, let's have breakfast and put this together"

"Do you remember what we're doing today?"

"Yesterday you talked about blowing up the station.."

"Yes, after dropping off we will go to Tricity"

"Good" - I'm increasingly impressed by this girl. She quickly learned not to ask questions.

"On the way we will stop for materials to build our shelter and then we will go straight to the Tri-City"

20 minutes later we had everything packed away in my gear and were ready to go.
