Year 4372, Lua Zelpis Planet
Lua Zelpis is a planet that has been remodeled to something similar to Earth, a planet where humans used to inhabit thousands of years ago. According to olden records, Earth slowly withered and eventually could not support life so the remaining humans decided to build huge spaceships as temporary dwellings until a livable planet can be found. It took hundreds of years and millions of light years before humankind was able to find a planet that is quite similar to Earth and one which is almost triple in size too.
The move from one planet to another brought about a fresh start for everyone. It removed the divisions between races and nations. No wars have ever happened since the establishment of the human civilization here in Lua Zelpis. Since everybody was busy rebuilding their lives from scratch, they don't have the time to bother about territorial disputes, political agenda, religious debates and such.
Humankind had slowly rebuilt what they had back on earth here in Lua Zelpis. It took almost a century before everything came back to what was considered normal. For some reasons unknown, fertility rates decreased for all; humans, plants and animals alike.
Based on research, it was most likely due to effects of long term birth control measures at the time of the first evacuation of survivors out of Earth. Another likely reason was prolonged malnutrition (inadequate vitamins and minerals in the body) and specifically for plants, not enough sunlight and soil nutrients.
For human families, not having a child or just having one at most was already common and treated as great luck. As for animal young and plants, they were able to at least stop some animal and plant varieties considered as food from extinction through genetic engineering. Life was hard but at least they are alive compared to the millions who were not so lucky back in their old planet.
For a race that wanted to re-establish their roots on a new planet, birthing to new lives was very important for the continuation of the human race. To resolve the problem with growing the population, humans focused their research on a two-pronged approach. They researched further on artificial ways to increase fertility or to give birth to children and at the same time finding ways to prolong the human lifespan through better medical care and advanced technology.
The valuable research covered highly improved studies on stem cell research to isolate the cell and to improve the quality of offspring in the next generation by trying to remove certain risks like diseases and hereditary health conditions. This also brought about more medical treatment options so that medical conditions that previously cause death would be treated like a normal flu today. They have greatly decreased the chances of getting cancer, heart disease, respiratory issues and diabetes which were the most common reasons of complications and death in Earth before.
Other studies covered fertility treatments for both men and women since this is another factor that was considered to increase the population. They have further improved the previous studies on in-vitro fertilization (IVF), Ovulation Induction (OI) via the help of prescribed medications and other treatments hoping to induce multiple births per each instance, hormonal treatments, etc.
One of the most important projects built to support this goal was the creation of what they call a "breeding facility". In this place, all men, women and morphoras who are found to be more fertile than the average human can be taken cared of. All members of the facility know that their sole job is to give birth to children as many times as they can throughout their lifetimes.
This job was highly paid and rewarding in more ways than one. In exchange for either being a source of an egg or a sperm, you will be provided food, clothing, shelter, tons of money and also popularity for some reason. Other jobs in the facility that provide similar benefirs include being a clinical tester for hormonal medicine, women and morphoras that are willing to be a surrogates, and though weird to say, they also provide "stud services" where fertile and virile men sleep with multiple women hoping for it to result to at least a pregnancy or two.
These were deemed as uncommon professions in the old world and people might even be scorned by the community if we were still living during those conservative times. No matter how weird it may seem, selling away their seeds and children to others is a profitable profession because as they say, TIMES HAVE CHANGED.
The people of the present go to these research facilities once they reach the age of 12. The parents readily bring their children to get tested, everyone fervently hoping to be chosen. Those who are chosen will bring pride and tons of wealth to their families. They will be seen by the new world as saviors of the human race whose population is teetering on the edge of extinction.
Other studies included trying to apply what they have seen to work for human trials to the agriculture setting. Their goal is to ensure that the humans that they painstakingly did everything to give birth to and keep alive, will have a steady source of sustenance throughout their lives. In this light, making sure plants and animals breed and produce enough food is also a must. They also tried to merge the characteristics of indigenous flora and fauna of Lua Zelpis to the one's from Earth in hopes of strengthening their breeding and propagation rates.
There were also improved studies on GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms) applied to plants and animals to ensure that when they are eaten, they will provide a lot of health benefits to humans. There were also some significant modifications in terms of the taste of the meat, level of intelligence and fertility rates of the organisms under these research projects. They are hoping that food will be another path that the human race could take to prolong their lifespans as well as improve their fertility and overall health.
Even after the earthlings finished rebuilding all the countries that Earth used to have, humankind only occupied a little over a quarter of the Lua Zelpis planet. The rest of the planet was for some reason, filled with lots of ruins which seemed to be from unknown fallen civilizations. The rest of the planet's surface was covered by impenetrable fog too. These ruins were dangerous to venture in as much as they are profitable. It takes a lot of courage to raid them but if you are lucky enough, high rewards await you.
The Carlsens, nicknamed as "The First Family" not because they are the leaders of the new world but because they were pioneers to a new way of earning a living. This family simply had both the courage and the luck to discover it and get rich from it too.
The Old Man Carlsen was the first man who was brave enough to venture into the ruins raiding business and built a company, now a corporation with his gains. He created his own team of trusted men and women. Together, they ventured from one ruin to another and each time they came out, they get a huge haul of treasures which eventually built a billion-zelpian peso company, the Archaeo Explore Group.
Besides being rich, the Carlsen family has always been known to be kind and fair even as they became richer and richer over the years. They made it a point to give back more to the world by providing more jobs to people and donating to charities they trust. This heritage from the Old Man Carlsen has always been something that the next generations have been proud of.
Everybody knew that Old Man Carlsen was an amazing and brave person. He was decisive and brutal to some extent in business but he was kind and doting to his wife, his only son and later to his only grand daughter when he was still alive. He built ArchEx to ensure that the lives of the next generations of his family will be set for a life of wealth and security.
Ms. Carlsen, just like his father, was also a decisive businessman but more soft-hearted towards people and he tends to avoid conflict as much as possible. Those who are close to him all know though that this soft-heartedness does not apply to his only daughter, Violet.
Besides the Carlsens, there were other wealthy families that are known worldwide who has ventured into different businesses that pose less risk. It is normal to create fortune from what the world needs which could be food, housing, health and wellness, fertility and ruin raiding. ArchEx has a long list of competitors that went into the same ruin raiding business. Other rich families chose other industries which ArchEx eventually expanded into after a few years.
Some rich families delved into food production and agriculture to answer the need for constant food supply for the whole population. Some delved into medicinal research to treat illnesses, produce cures and prolong lives.
As usual, construction and mining businesses were also popular with the constant need to develop land as living spaces and site for businesses. Another uncommon business that boomed were birthing facilities who assist families that are having a hard time to have children by providing every available option for them to have one for the right price, of course.
Lastly, there were business that focused on hygeine products and waste processing facilities to keep the whole planet clean. This is operated jointly by the different territories as a preventive measure for the future. They don't want Lua Zelpis to end up just like the old Earth.
Together with all these founding families, life in Lua Zelpis has become way better that it was hundreds of years ago. The population is still low but has been healthily increasing year after year. Jobs are available and it was easier to put food on the table.
The economy has also come a long way from the era of the barter system to now having a unified currency and free trade between territories. It proves that human tenacity and ingenuity knows no bounds. We just hope that this time, we don't mess this new planet up.
