Chapter 51 - Weakened Twilight Twins

The dragoness then shook her head, causing her snakes to morph back into her hair.

"Then who are we dealing with?" questioned the Viceroy.

"A weakened version of them. To make it simple, Solaris uses Fire while Lunaris uses Darkness. According to the reports you've got, I would safely say that their forms are similar to ours but may have some small changes."

"But I can confirm that Solaris and Lunaris aren't going to be giant beasts unless we take them down. Then it would have the same aftermath as the fight against Celia," explained Mavislin, closing her eyes.

Despite knowing exactly what she needed to do next, the dragoness was caught in a relentless swirl of worry. She pinched the bridge of her nose, her eyes closed in a mix of frustration and exhaustion.

The weight of the situation pressed heavily on her, causing her to let out a deep, irritated sigh that seemed to echo her inner turmoil.

"What's bothering you? Don't you have a clear direction?" asked Zenos, thinking that the girl was just drowning in frustration.

Upon closer inspection, the Viceroy realized that it wasn't mere frustration or exhaustion she was grappling with. Her expression was a complex blend of sadness and anger—emotions that Zenos himself had long since cast aside.

It struck him that the Shadow of the Syndicate, whom he had presumed to be devoid of such feelings, still harbored them. She was not only capable of caring but was deeply affected by the suffering of others, a fact that stirred something unexpected within him.

"Yes..." replied Mavislin.

"Then why does your expression say otherwise?"

Mavislin placed her hands on the desk and looked down at the polished mahogany desk, unable to look up from her position.

"Solaris and Lunaris... They were the symbols of Night and Day in their realm. People used to pray to them and give them offerings so that they would bless the lands. Even if they were hated at times, their status as benevolent gods would never allow them to turn hostile."

"The Twilight Twins were forcibly summoned here because the Legion wanted to harbor their powers since they conjured up powers that no normal Mage could surpass. Forced into vessels that can barely contain their souls or powers..."

"In the end, they aren't creating soldiers or enhanced bodies... They are just using the flesh for fun to escalate their conquest of the lands. Fighting against the locals, the Corrupted Syndicate, and the Northern Cartel."

"Does that bother you then? I had thought you weren't capable of such... Emotions."

The young dragoness still refused to meet the Viceroy's gaze despite him towering over her. He was barely an inch away from Mavislin, outstretching his palm in an attempt to touch her but stopped.

"I'm not a robot... I have a passion for combat and would go berserk when I have free reign on the battlefield but it doesn't mean that I am numb to such emotions. And I am more angered than anything because it's just a waste of both my time and the deities'."

"Okay, you've confused me even further... I had thought you were upset because lives were being wasted..."

"It's a waste of souls and flesh... Nothing angers me more than starting something that was doomed in the first place just to gain power over others. It's daft... The more I think about it the more I'd like to bend the Legion over psychologically and physically."

Ah... There's the Mavislin he'd wanted to see. That side of her... The Prince of Darkness licked his lips and clenched his fists.

"Anyways, we've got another issue to deal with regarding the Twilight Twins; their locations. The incident reports describe the twins in so many different ways, but none of them actually show the twins in action," said Mavislin, looking up abruptly and nearly smashing Zenos' chin.

It was lucky that the Viceroy had abnormal reflexes as he shifted away. Mavislin tilted her head, wondering when he even got close.

"Mayhaps is because they aren't in the same temple?"

"That would make more sense…" replied the dragoness as she walked over to the window to look at the beautiful scenery of Valokia.

The Viceroy then looked at the girl with mystique eyes and then glanced over to the window as well. He pondered what the girl could be thinking before she stretched her arms and swished her tail.

"Well, it is worth a shot but we could try the two countries next to us. I mean, it is literally in their names, right? It would be daft not to try…" mentioned Mavislin.

"Heliomald and Lunaraveil? Those realms have been shrouded in silence and isolation for centuries. I find it highly unlikely that any of my men have ventured into those territories, nor have we received any reports from them."
