Chapter 140 - Second Battle of Tumbleton

(Third Person POV)

[Tumbleton]

"Listen." Ormund Hightower said as Jon Roxton stood next to him, "Hugh, was it? The only reason you're even here, wearing all that shiny armor and even conversing with us despite being a bastard is that dragon over there."

Jon nodded, "Yes, don't let that make you think that you have a say on our movements." He said, "You are a dragonrider, yes, but you are a servant of His Grace."

"His Grace?" Hugh asked, "Last I checked, His Grace was gone."

"Don't say such things." Ormund said as he walked past him, "Have your dragon rest and gorge. We'll need you to attack the Tyrells and get rid of them once and for all. With Prince Daeron in the Riverlands with Prince Aemond, you'll be needed here."

They were in Tumbleton, the town was barely able to be cleaned from the previous battle; the corpses were removed, the majority of them at least. The entirety of the Hightower Host was making a temporary camp in the town and were about to move; splitting their forces to attack the Tyrells and go back to aid Aemond's forces.

Hugh, who was escorting them, had spoken his mind about taking camp here for too long. He had said that it wasn't right camping on the same place that was already massacred by Aerion Targaryen and while he was right, the Lord of House Hightower did not care.

Hugh walked up to them as some squires had set up a table in the middle of the street, the two lords were sitting down.

"Are you sure about this?" Hugh asked

"Aerion Targaryen would either aid Daemon or return to Dragonstone." Jon said, "It won't make much sense if he keeps flying about the realm all the time. I get that dragons are fast and can get you across the land quite quickly but it takes a toll on them, it can tire them out, can it not?"

"I'm assuming so..." Hugh said as he turned to see Greyfiend at the end of the street, "This one is a Wild Dragon, I'm assuming it has its fair share of battles...."

"How did a lowborn like yourself get a dragon?" Ormund asked

"Its..." Hugh said as he looked down, "It's hard to explain.....it just came to me....I....."

Ormund nodded as he drank wine from a cup that was brought to him, "Interesting." he said, "Regardless, you got yourself in deep shite. You killed Jaecaerys Velaryon. No matter how you look at it, you marked yourself for death."

"Tell me about it." Jon chuckled, "You best hope that dragon of yours can fight Vermithor. And that your hammer is sturdy enough to take on Aerion."

Hugh looked at his hammer, which he was holding, and nodded, "I'm confident I can overpower someone like him..." He said

Ormund chuckled, "I doubt it." He said, "Aerion Targaryen is not your ordinary man. As you can already tell."

He gestured all around him, the street was covered in dried blood.

"You remember that Tourney? Visenya's?" Jon asked Ormund

"I think you beat me." Ormund said

"Aye, I did. And Daemon beat me." Jon said, "Cole was beaten by Aerion and Aerion beat Daemon. I don't know if you were there for that, Hugh. That's your name, right?"

Hugh nodded, "Y-Yes, I was in the stands watching."

"Then you must know the kind of fighter Aerion Targaryen is." Ormund said, "I am quite fortunate that I didn't fight him. He's a ferocious fucker."

"That, he is." Jon said with a smirk, "Point is, there are levels to things. And Aerion is at the top."

"If that's the case, why bother opposing him?" Hugh asked

"He's a Man." Ormund said, "And every Man has his limits. There will be a point where Aerion reaches him. And if we're still standing by them, we'll take his head. But trust me, if you simply underestimate him, you will die. If you slip up while fighting him, you'll die. A Tourney is one thing, the Battlefield is another. Your Dragon may be tough, but can it take on the Bronze Fury? We'll see."

Hugh was about to say something when he heard a loud roar in the distance.

"Dragon!!!" A shout was heard

Jon and Ormund stood up from their seats, "Oh fuck!" Jon said, "Already?!"

The two of them grabbed their swords, both Valyrian Steel; Orphan-Maker and Vigilance. They then looked up to the sky and saw the massive figure of Vermithor flying straight down at the town.

"Well fuck me in the arsehole!!" Jon said with a scowl, "That maniac is actually coming here!!"

Ormund looked at his nearby knights, "Scatter the army!!" He shouted, "Spread them all over the surrounding field of the town!! Do not be caught up in Vermithor's flames all bunched up!! Prepare for battle!! Aerion will dismount and take us on himself, we'll shower him with arrows!! We'll see if his armor can withstand a continuous rain of hell!!"

Jon sniffed as he spat on the ground, "I'll try to get some high-ground. I can probably hit him with a well-shot arrow through his eye." He said

"Yea, in your dreams." Ormund said, "Hugh, take your dragon and fight Vermithor off."

Hugh nodded, "Right." He said as he took a step as Greyfiend was looking up

The wild dragon let out a growl but suddenly, was met by a crashing Vermithor that hit him hard.

"By the gods!!!" Jon exclaimed as the collision of the dragons shook some of the street

Greyfiend was tackled through a building, all of the brick collapsing down onto him and on Vermithor's head, who was unfazed by this. The Bronze Fury had latched it's maw on the wild dragon's throat viciously as Greyfiend tried to squirm off him.

Aerion, who sat atop Vermithor, unfazed by the crash, looked down at the struggling dragon, "You were always a fucking nuisance...." He said, "I should've killed you when I had the chance....it is my fault....if I didn't kill you....Jace would've...."

He then dismounted Vermithor and jumped down, landing the street and began to make his way towards Hugh, who was standing there with pure shock.

Aerion did not need confirmation; just by looking at the man and at his hammer, he knew that it was Hugh, the one that killed Jace.

Without saying a word, he drew his swords as he walked towards him. Vermithor, behind him, ripped off a chunk from Greyfiend's neck and immediately bit at his face, crushing a part of his face, ripping it off as well. He then followed it up with a vicious stream of flames that burnt the wild dragon to a crisp, its body going limp.

Hugh was in shock, it was hard to take in and process what had just happened.

He then tightened the clutch on his hammer and gritted his teeth, "H-Have....." He said as he began to walk towards Aerion, "Have you come to kill me, Aerion Targaryen?!?!"

Hugh charged at Aerion, raising his hammer up and swinging it down at him as he reached Aerion.

Aerion side-stepped through the swing, the hammer hitting the ground hard. In a swift motion, Aerion swung Lady Rhea, cleaving Hugh through the neck with ease. Then, he spun around, counter-swinging Lamentation as it cleaved through his waist, only reaching the middle of it. As he fully spun around, Aerion swung Lady Rhea once again, this time, cleaving and cutting through Hugh's arm and chest, only cleanly cutting off the arm.

As Aerion calmly composed himself and walked past Hugh, the bastard's body collapsed to its knees His head rolled off his body and onto the floor, as his arm fell down, and the rest of his torso began to hang to it's left by two pieces. It was because Hugh's body was so wide, that Aerion's slashes couldn't cut him all the way through. Not like it mattered, he was already dead.

Aerion flicked both his blades, the blood flying off, "What do you think?" Aerion said with a cold tone as he stopped and looked beyond the street, seeing soldiers and knights scattered, "I have come to kill everyone here."

"There is no escape."
