Donald looks down at the paper in his hand showing him at the top in big bold letters:* **Class 1-A.** He continued down the hall, looking at the class signs as he goes, 1-C, 1-B, and finally 1-A. Being the brash person he is, he slings the door open with no hesitation, entering the class silently. He picks a random seat. He leans back in his chair and props his feet up on the desk, he can't be arsed to learn the people around him name's, or them in general.
Blue eyes close in rest, already irritable from an early morning and the first day of GA (Gifted Academy, for teens with promising talents). One eye cracks open in slight irritation from hearing the door open again before both eyes snap open and his head turns to fully look at **her**. What was she doing here..? This day officially became embarrassing.
The last time they both saw each other was 1st year of Bluebell Junior High. Snapping himself out of it he tears his gaze away, things didn't end well between them two. They both were kids, below teenager age and dating, it was a bad choice on his behalf and hers. He never thought he'd see her again, let alone that they'd both attend GA. His blue gaze shifts to his legs on the desk, deep in thought and most of them being about her which is starting to irritate him. He doesn't hate her but he doesn't want to remember her due to the embarrassment of being former lovers. It irritated him to think of how much he..missed her..
"Din?"
Gina whispered the nickname she had given him but quickly adjusted and moved to an empty seat on his left separated by another seat.
At the sound of the nickname he tenses, eyes closing again as he lets out a subtle sigh. He didn't want to acknowledge her, didn't want to risk thinking about her and the mistakes between them. But as the sound of movement and a chair squeaking came from the left, his eyes cracked open once more to look at the now empty seat between them. It felt almost like relief that she kept a seat apart at least, not wanting to engage too closely just yet. His blue gaze moves to look at her finally, taking in her appearance - noting how some things stayed the same and others changed, both physically and maturity wise since they last spoke. A part deep down glad she decided to address this, wanting closure one way or another, but his gruff outer shell remained.
"Tch. No one's called me that in years."
He spoke simply, but tone lacking any real bite behind the words as he leaned forward now to rest his arms on the desk, feet lowering to the floor. Internally wrestling with himself on what to say or do next, an awkward energy between them both now after so long. Part of him wanting to reconnect and make amends for the past, but another part stubbornly clinging to the space between them out of embarrassment and pride.
"Lot's changed, huh.."
He mutters vaguely, eyes watching her carefully, deciding if addressing the unspoken past or leaving it buried would be better. Conflicted on his next move.
"I didn't mean to call you that I'm sorry. And yeah...a lot has ...changed"
He offers a faint shrug at her apology for the nickname, awkward tension still hanging thick between them both as the past lingered unsaid.
"Don't sweat it. Was a long time ago..." Donald replies gruffly, eyes trailing to the side as he leaned back in his chair again, putting more space between you both physically as he crossed his arms over his chest. On the outside he seemed nonchalant but internally he was wrestling with the memories and emotions you stirred up just by being there.*
"So why DA?"
He questions loudly, suddenly changing the subject as his eyes snap back to gauge her reaction, curiosity getting the better of him despite still lingering hesitance. A part of him truly did want to know her again after all this time, reconnect and put the past to rest, even if his pride made it difficult to show. His expression remained somewhat aloof but eyes gave away his interest, ready to steer the topic in a more positive direction if she allowed it.
"Lucy De Léon recommended it to my mom..so here I am... even though I don't want to
Gina mumbled the last part thinking he didn't hear
Donald quirked a brow slightly at her response, taking note of the name she mentioned - knowing of the prominent family. His enhanced hearing picked up her quiet mumble at the end however, causing a ghost of a smirk to tug at his lips unconsciously.
"Not want to huh? Don't seem too thrilled about it."
He observed aloud, tone lacking its usual biting edge as curiosity persisted over revisiting harshness from the past. Leaning forward once more, forearms resting on the desk as his full attention focused on her now, hoping to understand more of where her head was at presently.*
"Why not? Place is supposed to be the best for training up future heroes and whatever does other weirdos call themselves"
Donald questioned further, desire growing to reconnect with her, help bury past pains and resentments. Part of him realizing in that moment how much he'd missed Gina's company all these years, finding solace again in continuing their discussion however went from there.
"I don't know... just don't like it"
Donald hummed thoughtfully at her lack of conviction towards GA so far, finding it intriguing given the school's prestige.
"Yeah, wasn't crazy about it at first either if I'm honest."
He admitted with a half shrug, eyes shifting around as he recalled his own initial reservations.
"Too many lamos running around like groupies. But..."
His gaze returned to Gina steadily, lips quirking up slightly again.
"Training here is top notch. You'll improve in no time."
Donald stated with confidence, wanting to encourage and reassure you. A part of him felt responsible for your distaste, recalling the pain caused years ago.
"Give it a chance. Bet you'll come around, especially with my help."
He added with a hint of challenge, smirk growing as blue eyes gleamed with renewed commitment to mending things. Extending an olive branch through cooperation, hoping she'd accept his guidance once more.
*Your help? The great Donald is going to help me, a girl who's quirk is still unknown? Di... Donald are you sure?"
Gina accidentally broke her pencil as as almost called him by his nickname again
A faint rumble escapes Donald's throat at the mention of his name, still so used to the familiar nickname on her lips. At Gina's accidental slip up and broken pencil however, a snort of amusement escapes him while tension eases somewhat.
"Tch, yeah yeah. Don't look so surprised, it'll give you a complex."
He scoffs, though the hard edges had softened considerably since their reunion thus far.
"So what if your quirks still new? Means you got even more potential to tap into."
Donald continues encouragingly, blue gaze warm and steady upon her.
"I know what it's like, feeling behind others. But I can help you catch up and then some."
He says with conviction, desire to rekindle their bond shining clearly now.
"Let me, and we'll be standing at the top together before you know it."
Donald asserts with a smirk, extending his hand in invitation to accept his guidance once more, both in training and repairing the rift of the past.
Gina squinted at Donald with puffed cheeks as she munched on her snacks.
"Okay"
After some contemplating she accepted his hand but adjusted back to keep eating.
Donald blinked at her sudden change in demeanor, taking in the squinty eyed puffed cheeks and mouth full of snacks in mild amusement. Typical of her old self to ease tension through lighthearted antics it seemed.
At the offered handshake his larger hand engulfs hers firmly but gently, giving a reassuring squeeze to seal the deal. The faint nostalgic sensation of her touch stirring long buried feelings.
She offered him another packet.
"Snack?"
"Heh, always did wonder where it all went." He chuckles softly, gaze tracing over her figure subtly before meeting her eyes once more.
"Thanks."
Donald rumbles out, tone now gravelly with restrained emotion as he accepted the snack packet gratefully.
"Guess we got some catching up to do, huh?"
He muses aloud, tone warm as blue eyes shine with promise of new beginnings. True relief and content fill him at having her back by his side once more, ready to help her flourish this time around.*
Ripping into the packet, his expression morphs into a competitive smirk.
"Just you wait, it'll be our class at the top in no time."
Confident in her potential and their renewed partnership, Donald finally felt at ease here at GA alongside Gina again at last.
"Albert"
Gina waved at Albert De Léon as he walked in and sat in front of her but turned around to watch her.
"I thought you were transferred or something"
She smiled at him and he playfully ruffled her hair. The look in his eyes made Donald feel like he now had competition
At the familiar name and sight of Albert entering, a flicker of something flashed across Donald's gaze before he schooled his expression. Taking note of the affectionate exchange between the two of them, he felt a subtle tug of past possessiveness trying to resurface before firmly tamping it down.
Watching the way Albert's eyes lingered upon her stirred an old competitive flame within Donald however, hackles raising subtly at the competitor for her attention. Old feelings for her rekindling as well that he refused to show just yet, still wary after so long apart.
"Tch. Seems like even science nerd thought this place was a step up."
He comments gruffly towards Gina, tone casual but gaze carefully studying Albert from the corner of his eye now as well.
"Guess birds of a feather stick together eh?" Donald adds lowly, unable to keep the subtle bite of challenge from his tone towards Gina's childhood friend. Wanting to reaffirm his place back at her side after so long, competing fiercely for her favor once more.
A smirk tugs at his lips, confident in proving himself the worthier choice this time around through his own sheer skill and merit. Readying to regain all lost ground tenfold and then some.
"He has a name you know. And what do you mean by birds of a feather? Hmm?"
Gina said with an expressionless face as she placed her books on the table.
Donald hides a grimace at the blank look making its return, knowing all too well what comes next if he couldn't articulate properly. Cold sweat broke out as old memories resurfaced of dealing with her wrath.
"Tch, yeah yeah I know his damn name." He bites back instinctively, tension mounting under her steady gaze.
Struggling to find the right words, Katsuki glances away awkwardly before meeting her eyes once more.
"I just meant...you two seem close is all. From the past..."
He explains gruffly, fighting to keep defensiveness at bay.
"But don't mean anything by it. A lot's changed, like you said."
Donald continues, voice softer now as shoulders dropped their guarded tilt.
"All I want is...to start over. With you."
He finishes sincerely, studying her expression carefully with eyes filled with hope, desire for understanding and acceptance once more laid bare.
"So whaddya say...think there's still a chance for us two?"
Donald asks tentatively, ready to prove himself worthy of her faith all over again if given the opportunity.
"I don't know"
Gina shrugged and turned ahead as the teacher walked in. She hit Albertsons's head because he was taller so they exchanged seats making Donald now a seat away from Shoto instead.
Donald held back a grimace as he watched them in fexchange places, leaving him now seated further away with the science nerd bastard between him and Ginaf. It took effort to quell the resentful sparks flaring up inside at the simple action, knowing he had no right after so long apart.
Turning his focus to the front as class began, Donald kept half an ear turned to her occasional whispers and giggles with the icicle. Jaw clenching subtly to bite back sharply rising jealousy at how easily she conversed with the other boy now.
The rational side knew he had lost standing through his own mistakes, but deeper feelings refused to accept it so calmly. Resolve steadily hardening throughout the lesson to prove himself a worthier match and regain lost ground, determined to win back your heart.
When the break finally came Donald stood quickly, offering Gina his signature smirk.
"Lunch on the roof?"
He asks confidently, gaze unwavering as old self shone through once more to lead her astray. Ready to remind her of the bond that once was, and reclaim the future that could be his again with time and effort.
Albert chuckled saying that they already had plans as he took her bag
"Sorry Di. Maybe tomorrow?"
Donald swallowed back a surge of frustration and jealousy at the science nerd's interjection, mentally tamping down the urge to sneer derisively in return.
"Tch, whatever."
He huffed dismissively instead, hiding inner turmoil as smirk fell to a bitter line.
Gaze sliding to her with palpable disappointment however, an undercurrent of longing softened blue eyes once she assured tomorrow's possibility. Chipping away stubborn resistance throughout her exchange had slowly reaped reward it seemed.
"Yeah...maybe."
Donald rumbled noncommittally in the end however, pride still smarting some from the prior rejection in favor of Albert's plans. Turning briskly to depart before it could show, confident edge falling to a brooding gait deep in thought now on how to truly regain hernfavor once and for all.
Tomorrow he would prove himself the worthiest, through genuine effort and care this time around to finally mend their bond without doubt or hesitation. Victory would be his in claiming her heart fully, come what may.
