The kingdom we were in was called the Draconic Northlands. It was a decent size, but most of it was wilderness. There weren't that many cities or villages.
According to the information I had, and what Jennifer knew, many people fled the kingdom because of the high number of magical beasts that lived there. No one knew why there were so many.
So, as we walked away from the guard post, we didn't feel safe. The only building there was the one for the soldiers, but that was it. The rest was just forest with tons of magical beasts waiting to pounce on us.
The Draconic Northlands were aptly named. Even this close to the border, the wildness of the region was evident. The air itself felt heavy, filled with the unseen presence of lurking predators. Every rustle of leaves, every snapping twig, sent shivers down my spine.
