Yula had been living in the village for quite some time. The fact that she betrayed us left Steward, the chief, in shock. He couldn't believe what he had heard.
"This is a joke, right?" he said, laughing maniacally. "Yula, you can show up now!"
Steward yelled, calling out for Yula, believing that everything was merely a prank we had concocted together. I wished it were, too. Yula had been a good friend to me, to Julie, and to everyone in the village. But it was not a prank.
Julie placed her hand on Steward's shoulder. "She betrayed us, and now we have one less person to help against the tribe's attack. You need to keep your cool, or else everyone else will suffer."
After hearing that, Steward calmed down. He took a few deep breaths, and his expression turned serious again. "It's a good thing you two arrived in time with the mana stones. Maybe we can still stop the reinforcements?" he asked.
