"First," I began, leaning forward, "I'd like to know about the tavern. When was it built?"
The druid, her brow furrowed in thought, replied, "Around three or four months ago, I believe. Construction began a bit earlier, maybe six months, but it was finished rather quickly."
That confirmed Anya's suspicions. The tavern was indeed new, which only deepened the mystery surrounding it.
"And how is business?" I pressed. "It seems like an odd location for a tavern, wouldn't you say?"
"It actually does quite well," she admitted. "I suspect it's because there were no other taverns in this area before. Travelers had to either push on to the next settlement or camp out in the wilderness."
I hesitated, then decided to be forthright. "Have you noticed anything strange happening in the forest, or even at the tavern? Someone was spying on me in my room earlier, and I have a feeling they might be planning something."
