The night hadn't been the best for me. My mind kept returning to what happened in Alistar's mansion, and I was scared of waking up the next day surrounded by people ready to arrest me.
Thankfully, I was alone in the room by morning. Everything looked the same, and I didn't hear any commotion downstairs, which was a relief.
Before leaving my room, I peeked through the corner of the window to do a quick check for anyone outside. I saw no one.
When I went downstairs, the person who gave me the room was gone – it was probably someone who worked only during the night shift.
The person behind the counter was someone else. I went to talk with the man.
"I arrived late last night. I just need to settle the payment," I said.
The man didn't seem surprised. This was probably something that happened fairly often.
We discussed the price – thankfully, it was cheap. After I paid the man, he said something that made me flinch.
