Chapter 4 - A Tavern? Thor? What's Happening?

No one showed up for the rest of the day. I couldn't keep myself awake at some point, so I slept in the cold, dark basement. It was not the ideal place to be, but it was better than staying awake all night and feeling like shit the next day.

I woke up with a cold water hitting my face. When my eyes opened, I saw three beautiful girls in front of me. Those were the same girls who had the spears, and the bow aimed at me.

One of them pulled me by the rope and they led me to the outside. She pulled me like she did to an animal. The girls brought me to a pile of uncut wood.

She cut the ropes off me and gave me a rudimentary axe. The axe was not sharp and well built like the ones I knew from Earth. It was more like the primitive axes or the ones in the medieval era.

The girl said a few words, which I understood as cut the wood you bastard.

That's what I did. I hold the axe with all my power and cut the woods with the best of my capabilities. I looked around from time to time to see what the other villagers were doing.

Some were patrolling the area — the girls who got me were the ones doing that — while others cared for their animals and plants. It was a place where everyone had a job, and each job was vital for the village.

Everyone had something to do, and each little thing meant a lot for the greater scheme of things. I cut the wood during the entire morning, and when it was close to lunchtime, the girls returned to speak with me.

Well, they tried, at least. They gestured for me to stop cutting, and so I did. After that, I grabbed some of the wood I cut and went with the girls to the biggest house in the village.

I guessed it belonged to the chief or something like that. Once inside, I saw others sitting around a massive table. It was like a main hall where people meet up to talk and eat something together.

The old stoves required wood, which I cut during the morning. I gave the wood to a few men who were working in the kitchen. After that, all I need to do was wait.

Out of all things, I was not expecting a massive banquet like that. They prepared the fish a few villagers got from the nearby river, some animals they hunted, and grains they cultivated. It was a pleasant lunch.

Everyone who lived in the village was there.

'Are they celebrating my presence here? Please, don't tell me they are thinking of sacrificing me!'

Yes, that thought crossed my mind. They were giving me a lot of food, celebrating my presence with a big banquet, and last night a girl came and sucked my penis! Were they trying to make me feel comfortable before my demise?

It was strange, but I went along with it, hoping that nothing bad happened. The food was great, and the people inside the hall were eating and looking at me from time to time. Eventually, a middle-aged man said a few words and everyone was silent.

The man wore finer clothes, and I judged he was the village's chief. He talked to the entire village — which I didn't understand — and eventually he brought me to the main stage too!

It looked like he was introducing me to the rest of the village, and everyone cheered. The atmosphere was friendly, and the connection between me and the others was instant.

I was not stupid. I knew when someone disliked me, and that was not the case for the villagers. They were scared when I arrived there, but now they were glad a new member was present in their village.

During the afternoon of that same day, the village chief introduced me to his daughter. Well, I guessed it was his daughter because she lived in the same big house as him, and looked a lot like him, too.

She had a few blank papers with her, and an ink pen.

'Will she try to teach me her language?'

The girl showed me her house. It had two floors with four bedrooms, a kitchen — which only had a wooden stable and an old metal oven — a library, and a training room with all kinds of weapons inside.

It differed significantly from the house I had been to earlier, the one with the basement. The village chief had way more luxuries when compared to others, but that was understandable.

For him to be the leader of that tribe, he had to have something that differed him from others. He could be powerful in combat, good at talking to others, or maybe he just had the money and the contacts.

Anyway, she showed me a room, and it seemed that the room would be mine for a while, which was great. The room had a decent bed, a desk with a chair, and a few books I couldn't read.

We both sat on the bed, and she started teaching me some of her language. The girl's talent at drawing made it significantly easier for me to link the images to the right words. I spoke a few sentences after the first day.

"Good night," I said to her.

The pronunciation was not the best there was, but she looked stunned by my fast progress.

"Good night," she replied.

I spent the entire afternoon learning the language with her, and during the first night hours, my mind was already tired, begging for some rest.

After she left, I searched through my backpack to see if everything was there. It was, so that gave me some peace. Then, I moved toward the door to close it.

An idea came to my mind. I grabbed the ancient key my grandfather gave me, and tried to use it on the door.

Based on logic, the key shouldn't work, but when I tried to lock the door, it worked.

'What?'

That was already strange, but what was even stranger were the noises coming from the other side of the door. It shouldn't have any noises. The only people inside the chief's house were the chief, his wife and his daughter, so how could I be hearing so many voices?

I opened the door, and what I saw was not the chief's house anymore, but a tall mountain with a tavern right at its base. The place looked magical, unlike anything I had ever seen.

The energy there was different. It felt…divine? I moved toward the tavern, and the person by the door looked a lot like the God of Thunder, Thor.

"Excuse me, but where am I? And who are you?" I said.

I don't know how, but the massive man understood what I said. The man simply waved his hand and a massive hammer flew to his hand. "This gave you the answer, right, kid? And who the fuck are you? I don't remember you from any of the pantheons!"

Everything was confusing.
