How He Caught me
Abby's POV
Earth was almost uninhabitable. It had been three years since our own species destroyed itself. Centuries of toxic waste, world wars, and gender trials. The human men had run human women into extinction. They sold them in markets like commodities and forced them to become breeding slaves. The population of the world was now at 0.3% of what it used to be; man believed that all women were dead, no thanks to their actions. My name is Abby Griffin, and I am a woman.
When the Alien ships descended on Earth, I had been sent to spy on a small faction of men camped near the trees. We had done our best to convince everyone that we didn't exist anymore. All over the world, news came back that no one could find a woman anymore. Humankind was on the brink of extinction. The alien ships brought technology that we hadn't even touched before the great war. They descended upon the earth, acting like they ruled it. I was there when the first alien man encountered one of our human men. They crushed them, not with weapons, but with their bare hands. It didn't take me long to realize that the alien was wearing a suit. When he believed he was alone in the forest, he took it off in front of the river to wash up. There, I saw him. A man, beastly, unlike the human men we were used to. His skin was glowing, yet no different from mine. He had locks of hair that descended down his back, his muscles were huge, and he was the tallest man I had ever seen. A twig broke, he turned, snapping his eyes in my direction. I saw the glint of red and yellow that passed his eyes, the flash of fangs and his long retractable claws that reminded me this wasn't a man.
"Abby, we've been made," my godmother shouted as she tapped my shoulder. I knew the protocol, I turned and I ran. I was wearing a long coat over me, I'd braided my hair in a style similar to what the men did. I wanted to appear as manly as possible. But my small frame and non-existent muscles didn't win that for me. So, I wore heavy boots and long coats. I covered half my face and made sure some of my hair fell over my face to hide my brows. I wore saggy pants to hide the form of my curvy body. All of that, just to run from some damn alien.
"Mother!" I shouted, on the verge of tears when I tripped on a log and fell face-first on the ground. The sound of breaking twigs echoed in the distance, followed by heavy footsteps. The man, he was following us. Panic ran into me again. I got up, not seeing any of my sisters around. I ran in the opposite direction, trying to lead the man away from the close camp.
When I heard the noises of distant men from below the mountain, I turned to look. There, showering in the river yet again, was a set of more than ten alien men, each with their suits set down. Each unafraid of being naked in front of the other. Each, so peculiar. I had been a nun in training before all this. I had never seen a naked man, never thought about it. Were they supposed to look like that? So intimidating and strong, like they could crush me with their thumb.
"Where are your women?" A sound came from behind me, freezing me. My eyes were wide and my heart was beating out of my chest. I was sweating. I knew he was right behind me. I couldn't move, couldn't breathe. "We've come here to find women to mate with. But your planet seems uninhabitable. The expected population seems to not exist, your resources are wasted and scattered. I haven't seen a damn female in sight since I landed my ship, what have you done to your precious women?"
He was talking to me. He almost sounded angry. I was only a distance away from a cliff, but I wouldn't dare jump. Instead, I turned and made a hasty move to brush past him. He almost caught me, seemingly coming at me with more strength than needed. I managed to maneuver under his shoulder and run in the opposite direction. These boots weren't helping me. They were as heavy as a rock.
This was the last thing any woman would want, a species of beast looking to 'mate' with us. This was what started the final stage of the last extinction. The men had started wars with each other, a disease had rampaged the planet, the women were immune. Men had decided that women, instead of money, were the new commodities. I had watched people I knew and loved get sold on the market in value of age and childbearing capabilities. It was all a quest to repopulate. Soon, women had to wake up and fight back. Those of us who survived learned to hide in plain sight and exist in the shadows. I was the youngest of the faction. Twenty-two, I had been a psych major before the world went to shit, now I was running for my life from an Alien who thought I was a disgusting man.
How hadn't he caught me yet? It made me wonder whether he was taking his sweet time. Enjoying the thrill of hunting me. His friends were still down by the river, chattering in foreign languages and laughing. I couldn't get caught. Surely, if he caught me, he'd know. He'd find out. Other than his large frame and the size of the print on his pants, he was no different from the appearance of our normal man. I had seen the fangs and the claws and the glowy eyes, but they seemed like something he could easily turn on and off.
I noticed the absence of trembling footsteps or breaking of twigs. The forest was quiet. The men in the river weren't there, the one who'd been following me had disappeared. Yet, my relief was short-lived when I heard someone shout, "Alpha, here! I caught the male."
I bolted again, running as fast as I could in the other direction. But I met a tree of a man, falling back on my butt with a scowl.
"For a puny human, this male is quite fast." The one in front of me was the same man who was chasing me. I pulled myself up, I looked around, trying to find a point of exit. Yet, I was surrounded by those men with fangs and long deadly glowing claws. I was trying not to cry, but I couldn't hold back. All of it felt like a sick nightmare.
"Nowhere to run, human." He mocked me, smirking as he advanced closer. I took an instinctive step back, aware of the circle of men closing around me.
"Please, stop. We don't have women. They all died three years ago. There's only men on this planet. No one for you to take." The Alpha, the man exuding the most authority among them all, cocked his head as he looked at me. His eyes were filled with fear and horror.
"How will we save our species?" One man whispered to the others.
"Without human women, we are doomed," Another said.
"Silence!" The Alpha roared, exuding this air of power that almost had everyone kneeling, including me. It felt like a damn spell. I felt myself tingle, I bit my lip to stop from moaning. What was this feeling?
"We've studied humans over the years. They are liars and manipulators. We can make this earthly male scum talk. All he needs is a little persuasion." He flashed his fangs at me, making chills run over me.
"No. Please..." I begged as I fell over again, while trying to run from him. He pulled me up, his hands touching my body once again. His touch felt like electricity, I was sure he felt it too. I saw the look in his red eyes. Before I could protest, his thumb brushed over my lips, then the top of my head, and I felt myself get dizzy. The sound of something locking was heard, right before I noticed the set of glowing cuffs around both my wrists.
"Sleep, when you wake, you'll tell us all we need to know," He said to me as I fell over. I felt my feet lift off the ground, his face now this close to mine, was easier to examine. If I didn't know any better, I'd have called him an attractive man. But he wasn't. He was an alien beast who thought of women like breeding machines. No different from our own men.
The sound of a whirling machine was the last thing I heard. They took me to their ship, stealing me away from what I'd called home for the last years. I was no different than dead now.
