Meng Yao, formerly known has Harry Potter, had no idea how his reincarnation came to be. If someone had told him that he was going to be reborn in another life in another time period, he would have laughed in their faces. He suspected that he was in ancient china judging by the architecture and traditional garments he was able to see from his limited movement.
He adored his new mother. It was a new experience for him, receiving that loving maternal care he had witnessed being given to others when he was alive. Most importantly, she loved him deeply. He saw it every time she held him, sang to him and the gentle care she always gave him. Lily Potter was his original mother, yes, but he never got to truly experience what she was like as a parent. All he knew was what she would have been like had she been alive. He truly appreciated the sacrifice she had made for him but this time it was different. Meng Shi did her absolute best to create a nurturing environment. Her affection would manifest in daily routines such as gentle lullabies and nurturing touches that fosters a deeper connection between them.
As he grew, he became more aware of the world surrounding him and, boy was he glad he had a loving mother guiding him all the way. Life was a bit more complicated than he was used to. In this era status and favor mattered especially looking at the nature of a concubine's household. Meng Shi did her best to prepare him for potential rivalries that, according to the brief knowledge he had of ancient China, could turn deadly. Their situation was already delicate with Meng Shi's history as a courtesan invited as a concubine within the Huang household. The main wife was already angry about her husband bringing in a concubine, let alone a concubine with a history as a courtesan. Worst of all, it seemed her husband preferred Meng Shi's company and spoiled her in the best ways he could. The head of the household, Huang Yu's father, did not take action or disciplinary measures on his son leaving the public to think he approved. This angered Huang Yu's wife even more. It was reasonable to expect support from Huang Yu's parents. Unfortunately, Huang Yu was spoiled by his parents as the youngest son. This treatment solidified Meng Shi's presence within the household with staff, excluding the first wife's servants, respecting her. It did not hurt that Meng Shi had a charming personality and was kind to everyone regardless of their status.
His relationship with Huang Yu was rather complex. Huang Yu indulged Meng Yao under Meng Shi's influence. Perhaps this had to do with the fact that Meng Shi had been teaching him the intricacies that would guide his interaction with others. He learnt to be just as charming as her and to display his developing talents so as to show his value. Meng Shi wasn't naive. She knew that Huang Yu would not always be lenient towards Meng Yao. So she coached him. She exposed him to the traditional arts such as music, poetry and calligraphy that she herself was a master to. Maybe it was because he was an adult in a child's body but he excelled in these arts. An advantage was the fact that he was more talented as compared to Huang Yu's other children with his first wife. This gave Meng Shi more favor. If it was the old Harry Potter, he would be protesting against this type of underhandedness. However, he reminded himself that he wasn't the golden boy here anymore.
Meng Shi at times would wonder what could have been but then would realize that this life was better. She had heard rumors about the Jin Sect Leader's activities and his many children outside wedlock. It was then that she realized that he would never accept her son. She had done well for herself. She had found herself a husband who would take care of her and provide for her son. Her Meng Yao would continue to grow with the opportunities given by her decision. She wont rest until her son became great. Her son wont be stifled by jealousy and struggle. She would make sure he has her support until he can stand on his own.
