CHAPTER:

LISA

Day 2 of the competition.

The bright sun rays extended towards my room as it rested on my eyes. I raised my hands up blocking the rays from penetrating into my eyes after ending the alarm calls countless times. Last night memories still rested on my mind as I yawned out loud stretching out my body with the bed also making a creaking sound as I extended myself widely on the bed.

My hands went through my forehead and reincarnated the memories I had last night. I wish I could keep receiving more kisses from him just to sleep like a little baby.

"Can you stop thinking about this kiss,Lisa." A tiny little voice crept into my mind trying to erase the thoughts I was having about the kiss.

I shook my head in disapproval as I crawled out of the bed with my pyjamas still on, "Another day to get things done!" I yawned out loud, closing my eyes tightly while I picked up my phone to check through the activities of the day.

"What! How?" I exclaimed in amusement, rubbing my eyes with my hands to be sure I wasn't daydreaming.

I tossed my phone on the bed rushing over to my wardrobe to pick up some clothes to put on, pondering out loud, "How can I be so forgetful that I almost forgot that today is the competition day?"

Despite setting the alarm an hour earlier for the actual time to be present at the event I was too lazy and weak to be on time. I don't want to blame the late night event I had and the soft kiss I received because that wasn't enough reasons to have almost missed the event.

I grabbed my bottle of fragrance and sprayed it around my body trying so hard not to be late for the event as I picked up my phone from the bed to immediately place a cab to come pick me up.

It wasn't even up to a minute after I placed my ride that I heard the loud sound of the horn blasting through my window. On some days when this tend to happen I end up exchanging words with the driver since he has decided to act unprofessional but today being an eventful day when I decided to wake up late despite the fact that I had a competition ahead of me to partake in I decided to let it go.

I stepped out of my apartment looking all good even though I wasn't looking the best. Of course, what would be expected from someone who is late for an event. I locked my door and hopped into the ride without engaging in a conversation.

The ride was quite peaceful and calm but internally I wasn't peaceful and acting demure at all. All I wanted was not to be late for the event even though I was so certain that the event can't go one without me being present.

"Ma'am, we've arrived at your final destination." The driver's car came to a halt as I addressed me with his soft masculine voice.

I snapped out of my reverie state, unlocking the car and nodded with a soft smile etched around my lips, "Thank you very much."

"You're welcome."

I didn't even pay attention to his response before I picked up a race to get to where the competition was going to take place.

"Were you scared that you were going to lose hence the reason you showed up late?" Drew made a fool out of himself because I knew he wasn't talking to me in such a manner.

I ignored his presence, acting as if he wasn't even directing his speech at me. The only thing I could see was how everyone was gathered around the lake waiting for my presence before they started the competition.

"Why are you just showing up by this time, Lisa? Is it that you didn't get the memo or what?" Sabrina wrapped her hands around my shoulder as we both jogged to the brim of the lake where everyone was seated.

"It's not that I didn't get the memo. I was just feeling weak and a little bit nauseous." I lied to her trying to wave off my face from looking into her eyes.

She took a pause in her steps and looked at me,"Are you sure you can still partake in this competition?" She asked with all manner of concern evident in her eyes.

"You don't have to bother about me, Sabrina. I can do this and I'm hyperactive to go."

"Alright! If you say so then let's dive into it." She clasped her hands up in the air summoning everyone to gather in one accord.

The moment Sabrina realised that every of her family members were gathered round in circles she cleared her throat and spoke up giving out important instructions and rules to follow.

"On today's event as you can see we are all present in a lake and we are going boating. Lisa would be paired with Drew, Claire and Micheal in a single boat. While her opponent, Ivar will be paired with Monse, Georgia and Craig."

"I don't think there is a point in competing with me, Lisa. You know that I'm going to win so just take your loss and go." Ivar feeling all boastful walked up to my face to speak more of himself.

I was boiling to give him a befitting response but at the same time I rather allow my actions to do the talking. Was I scared of going on a competition with Ivar? Yes. But, Will I give up? No!

The challenge was simple yet daunting: a race on those peculiar pedal boats, the ones that looked more like glorified water bicycles. I'd always been more of a landlubber, but the thrill of competition had me feeling surprisingly eager to give it a try.

Seeing Ivar, my opponent just gave me that doubting rush of wining the competition. He was a picture of confidence. His muscles rippled beneath his damp shirt, and his eyes glinted with a competitive fire. I couldn't help but feel a pang of doubt. He was a natural athlete, a force to be reckoned with.

As I and my team members boarded the boat my eyes we're fixated on the finish line. The only thing I could picture in my head was getting to the finish line before Ivar and proving to him that it's more of action than his empty words.

""Ready to lose, Lisa?" he taunted, a smirk playing on his lips.

"We'll see about that, Ivar. But, for now let's get right into it" I retorted, my voice filled with determination. "This race is far from over so be ready for me." I backed up more words with more confidence as I attacked him back.

He was beyond startled to get that kind of response from me coupled with the fact that I've been trying so hard not to give him my attention by responding to him.

I kept my face focused sitting at the front of the boat being the fact that I was my team leader. My hands glided the pedal with a tightened fist waiting for the gunshot to commence the race.

My heart was racing so fast as I waited in anticipation hoping to hear the gun shot.

"At the count of three i'll release the gun shot. Are you ready?" Sabrina being the chief host and the game master shouted through the microphone.

"Yes even though I know some people are shy to admit that they are going to lose." Ivar responded without giving me a space to speak for myself.

"One…Two…Go!" The starting gun sounded, and we were off. The four of us worked in unison, our synchronized strokes propelling us forward. But Ivar's team seemed to have a slight edge, their boat gliding effortlessly through the water.

I glanced over at Ivar while still paddling my pedals effortlessly is face etched with concentration. He was a formidable opponent with a competitive streak. From the way he was paddling the pedals it felt as if he has won a gold medal in boating activities before. But I wasn't going to let him win without a fight.

"Go faster guys! We can do this, team! We didn't come this far to lose to someone who clearly called is a loser repeatedly." I urged them with my feminine voice echoing across the water. "Let's pick up the pace! Faster! Faster!" I blurted out channeling my energy to the pedals.

"Why are you stressing your team members, Lisa. You and I know that you can't make it so stop with the stress." He bursted out in a sardonic laugh boy cotting their boats across mine while increasing the intensity of their speed.

My lips were hardddened as I fumbled it in, " Did you just hear what they said team? Are we going to look at them and allow their words become our reality?"

"No way!" Drew, Claire, and Michael responded in unsion with renewed energy, their strokes growing stronger.
