Damian's POV
What kind of message was that? It seemed like a threat.
But who would be Samantha's enemy?
She had a social life, with an active social media account, was it some sort of fan or what?
I wanted to call her and tell her she got a package, but she was obviously pissed with me, so it was only normal that I kept this away from reach till she came back, maybe she had argued with someone online which was fairly frequent and they thought it was cute to just send a threat.
I tucked the note into my drawer then went out to take some air.
I had taken a month break from work, and I was looking forward to resuming the next day, I could already foresee the pile of documents I would need to sign, and I had a meeting as well first thing in the morning, it sucked big time, but I had a goal and I was looking forwards to achieving it.
I boarded my car, then drove round town.
Whatever happened with Lisa's picture would never happen again, and I wanted to stand by it, she was now part of my past, and she was dead already, there was no way I would be seeing her except I would die.
And my son was just growing up. I wanted him to give him a life different from mine. The statement he made today was just messed up, and I took full responsibility for it, the day he heard Samantha and I argue, I had no idea he was listening, and some other times when Samantha had said words like "if it was Lisa you wouldnt say this or do that" he heard all of them. Soon he would be saying it outside to everyone.
The traffic's light turned red, so I played around with the steering wheel while waiting for it to pass by. I had no direction in mind, but I was only going back home when I felt tired.
Two seconds to go, I turned to my left, and my world paused.
One
Two…
The car beside me zoomed off, but I didn't recover from the shock, did I just see Lisa?
I ignited the engine, immediately chasing after the car aimlessly.
I just saw Lisa, she was dressed in a black gown, I had only seen a side profile but I was sure as hell that it was Lisa, I just saw her.
The car I had seen her in was way faster, and due to the obvious fact that she moved before I did, the gap was hard to catch on with my current speed.
I needed to pass the speed limit, so I increased my pace, my eyes were focused on her car, just when I thought I had gotten close enough, I felt a mighty force push my car further. A sudden collision had hit my car, and I found myself thumbing in a haze of broken glass.
Till all I saw was darkness
'Bip Bip bip Bip'
My world spinned around in circles, I felt myself move, my body ached and there was something on my face.
"Patient needs to be taken to the ICU immediately,"
I heard the sound of footsteps, and my vision became blurry and distant.
Everything went dark again.
•••
My eyes fluttered open, everything looked white, and mostly beautiful. The first thing that caught my attention was the pleasant scent of flowers that surrounded me. It coaxed my mind so gently.
It felt like I was in a garden and I was laying on the floor, the cloud was palin white and less sunny.
"Hey honey, you have woken up" I heard a lady's voice, it was Lisa's voice, though it seemed distant, it matched with the mood I had found myself in.
Blinking gently, the face came into view, she was staying over me, with her hair touching my clothes then she pulled me in for a kiss, I smiled gently at her, It all seemed like some bad dream.
"Let me call the nurse, I will be back in bit"
She then left me, but I wanted her to stay but she had already gone before I could hold her hands. I looked around, then I realized I wasn't in the garden.
I was in a hospital, with several flowers around me. The last thing I remembered was the force pushing my car away, and with my banded legs and hands it was obvious I had an accident.
The nurse came in a few seconds later, they did what they knew how to do best, which was checking if my vision was right or if I felt funny.
While they did this, I was looking around impatiently for Lisa, but she wasn't there, she went out to call the nurse.
"Uhm, nurse, the lady who called you, where is she?"
"Oh, uhm she went to get herself something to drink she would be back" she said.
I smiled at the thought of it.
"You are really lucky sir, she had been here for two days, seating beside you while you were in coma"
"I am Lucky indeed, Lisa is just the kind of lady for me do you know that she was the one I was chasing after, I saw her in a car before the accident, she's a really good woman, she wouldn't leave me, maybe she stopped and took me to the hospital when she realized there was an accident," I said grinning like a fool, but the nurse frown at me.
"I believe to want to say Samantha, but you're just waking up from anesthesia and you might be mistaken names and seeing thing, you don't remember much but that's fine"
"Hey hun, Henry came to pay a visit" I heard Samantha's voice, and that was when realization struck me.
The nurse looked at me, in a judgy manner for obvious reasons.
I sighed softly.
My life was a mess.
"Dad! You are awake!" Henry jumped on my body, causing my skin to burn, I jerked on the bed, as the pain erupted.
"Hey there champ, how are you doing!" I groaned
"I am fine daddy, how are you doing?, you were sleeping for two days, doctor said you sustained head injury and broke legs, daddy, does it hurt even with those things wrapped around your legs"
He poked the cast curiously.
"Yes, Henry, it does, very much" I pulled him in and kissed his head.
"But your dad is fine, and he's doing really well, so don't worry about it"
My eyes narrowed back to Samantha, she kissed me again but it didn't make my heart flutter like it had done earlier.
"Was it because of the way I spoke about Lisa, I didn't mean to piss you off, I know you were angry, but you speak so fondly of her that it hurts, she was traitor to you and you know that, you chose to divorce her—"
"Not here Samantha, not here" I waved the topic off, I wasn't prepared to be taken back to the past.
I already know what I did. I didn't want to be reminded, my grandads wanted me to marry Lisa, he made a blind date for us, and then he promised she was the smartest lady he knew, and I went through with it which wasn't a lie.
He got diagnosed with dementia, and a weak heart and when he came back hated Lisa because he felt she was an imposter. I had tried convincing him but he didn't care.
And even though his memory was passive, he chose Samantha after seeing her. It was a tough thing to do, and I needed to make my old man happy. We already had too much disappointment and I wasn't going to do anything to hurt him.
But I only knew how much she contributed to my life when she left, and maybe it was because of her death, but nothing felt the same without knowing I would come back home to meet her in the house.
Samantha might be her sister, but she was nothing like Lisa.
"Fine then, I am sorry if that's what you want to hear, you will be discharged in a week, and your grandad almost suffered an heart attack too, so please don't die before him"
I nodded then closed my eyes.
I was very certain I saw Lisa. It was her, no one else. Or maybe it's some sort of hallucination, because for a minute I thought she was in the hospital with me but she wasn't.
Everything felt stupid all over again, I needed the thoughts of her to be exorcized out of me. If I truly wanted to be happy, I needed to have the m memories of her out of my mind.
