The sound of hooves rhythmically pounding against the dirt road echoed in the still air as Jaxon expertly guided his horse along the winding path, towards the Whittemore Estate. Sitting in front of him, Orion leaned back slightly, his shoulders brushing against Jaxon's chest.
The ride was serene, the cool breeze tugging at their hair and clothes, but Orion seemed distant, his gaze fixed on the horizon as if searching for something just out of reach. His mind was elsewhere, a silent battle brewing behind his thoughtful eyes.
Jaxon kept one arm firmly around Orion's waist, the reins held loosely in his other hand. He glanced down at Orion, studying his profile for a moment. He had chosen to ride with Orion deliberately, craving his closeness. The excuse had been practical, two riders on one horse for efficiency, but the truth was simpler: he wanted Orion near.
Suddenly, Orion broke the silence. "I want to learn how to ride a horse."
