"I've already registered at the hospital."
A moment later, Yu Zhiwan gently pushed away the hand resting on her forehead.
Liu Huanran hesitated, wanting to say something more, but Yu Zhiwan had already closed her eyes, clearly intending to rest, and removed the pillow from behind her head to lie down. Liu Huanran clicked her tongue and eagerly asked if she wanted something to eat, making Pei Yujang's lips twitch with irritation.
Pei Yujang knew that according to the story, Liu Huanran would end up with Yu Zhiwan, but she didn't know when they would officially get together or what their current relationship was.
However, based on the fact that Yu Zhiwan had kissed her earlier, it was likely that they hadn't yet started dating.
Liu Huanran was clearly trying to win Yu Zhiwan's favor, but her efforts were clumsy and ineffective. If Pei Yujang were the patient, she would've wanted to kick Liu Huanran out.
In the original story, Liu Huanran was a typical scumbag Alpha in the early stages—reckless and irresponsible, neglecting her Omega and rarely coming home.
True to the stereotype of scumbag Alphas, Liu Huanran would destroy her own home in fits of rage, wear excessive makeup reminiscent of a zombie bride, and hang out with a group of bad influences.
Later in the story, Liu Huanran would do a complete 180 in her attitude toward Yu Zhiwan, even after having verbally abused, insulted, and physically coerced her multiple times. After repeatedly promising to change, Yu Zhiwan would forgive her and fall into her arms.
Liu Huanran would then work hard to rise in her career, eventually bringing down Pei Yujang's mother's company, leaving Pei Yujang without protection. She would imprison and torture Pei Yujang, removing her glands, and then toss her into the mountains to be devoured by wild wolves.
This seemed to be the standard ending for scumbag Alphas in such stories, but usually, the protagonist who transmigrated into the scumbag's body would redeem themselves, pampering the Omega and achieving everything they wanted. In this case, however, that tragic ending was assigned to Pei Yujang, the obstacle in the female lead's love life.
After watching for a couple of minutes, Pei Yujang decided the time was right and left. As she reached the door, she overheard Zhou Shuyue on the phone with her mother.
"If it's really necessary, have Xiaoyu come home. Xiuxiu is there too, so try to keep them from clashing. I'll come back after my honeymoon with Zhaozhao."
On the other end of the line was Pei Yujang's mother, Pei Jinhuai. The "Zhaozhao" she mentioned was her new wife, Fan Zhaozhao.
The original character didn't like her mother's new wife or Fan Zhaozhao's daughter, so she lived alone. Pei Jinhuai was worried but couldn't persuade her to return. Since she was enjoying her honeymoon and didn't want to upset her new wife over her daughter, she allowed Pei Yujang to live independently.
However, with her daughter injured, Pei Jinhuai couldn't leave her alone, so she gave her assistant several instructions before ending the call.
Pei Yujang spent three days in the hospital before returning home.
In truth, these minor injuries were nothing to her, but over the past few days, she realized how overly indulgent this family had been toward the original character.
One evening, feeling bored and unable to use electronic devices due to her head injury, Pei Yujang absentmindedly peeled an orange while listening to the news. Zhou Shuyue looked at her as if she had just witnessed a fish walking, quickly rushing over to peel the fruit for her.
Over the next few days, Pei Yujang was pampered to an uncomfortable degree, with everything done for her. Finally, after three days, she was able to leave the hospital.
On the way home, Pei Yujang took the opportunity to review the current direction of the story.
The original character hadn't yet reached the point of crazily snatching someone else's love interest. However, after accidentally meeting Yu Zhiwan and being attracted to her, she began a long campaign of trying to steal her away.
When those attempts failed, she would reveal her true nature.
This meant that early on, she didn't need to be too cruel to Yu Zhiwan. What she did earlier should still be within character.
The original character's mother, Pei Jinhuai, was a Beta who had inherited a cosmetics company at a young age and made it a huge success.
Pei Jinhuai had once married an Alpha, giving birth to her only daughter, Pei Yujang. However, the Alpha became dissatisfied with Pei Jinhuai's strong-willed nature as a Beta and eventually cheated on her.
Pei Jinhuai's divorce was a masterstroke, leaving her ex-husband with nothing and even making him pay compensation. She wasn't heartbroken in the least, and the day after kicking out the cheating Alpha, she returned to the public eye, deftly handling reporters' questions.
Pei Jinhuai's new wife, Fan Zhaozhao, was an Omega with a daughter from a previous relationship, a teenage Alpha girl who was spoiled and unruly.
The original character had often been bullied by this step-sister at home but couldn't win any arguments against her. Worse still, Pei Jinhuai knew her daughter's personality and, in the interest of family harmony, often asked her to let her younger sister have her way.
The household was often in chaos, and the original character, increasingly unhappy at home, gradually spent more time away.
The car drove through the rain, entering the quiet villa district, where lights still glowed through the windows.
It had been raining in Yicheng for several days. The housekeeper, notified of Pei Yujang's arrival, hurried over to meet her, shielding her from the downpour with a large umbrella. Not a drop of rain touched her as she stepped out.
Inside, a maid approached to help her change shoes. Pei Yujang, unused to such pampering, frowned slightly, still preoccupied with thoughts of Yu Zhiwan.
As she stepped into the brightly lit living room, she noticed that despite the late hour, a comedy show was playing on the TV. A girl, barefoot and wearing loose shorts, was sitting on the coffee table, munching on chips and laughing. When she noticed Pei Yujang, her gaze turned scornful.
Jiang Wenxiu sneered, "Oh, you're back?"
Pei Yujang continued walking without pausing. Jiang Wenxiu clicked her tongue, put down the chips, and strutted over, poking Pei Yujang hard in the back and drawling:
"What, didn't you hear me? You're just pretending, huh?"
Pei Yujang finally turned around.
The girl's appearance, with her tank top and loose shorts, her casual demeanor, and striking looks, clearly identified her as the original character's step-sister. Though she was still in high school, her hair was styled in curls, though it now hung messily, resembling an unkempt poodle.
Jiang Wenxiu was only seventeen but had developed well, though she was still a few centimeters shorter than Pei Yujang. Standing close, her aura seemed diminished. But as an Alpha, Jiang Wenxiu had been confident ever since she was detected to be an Alpha. Inherited from her mother, she was pale and pretty, but her attitude and actions were obnoxious.
Feeling a bit uneasy under Pei Yujang's intense gaze, Jiang Wenxiu shifted nervously.
Since moving into the house, this was the first time she had been in such close proximity to Pei Yujang. Usually, their interactions were limited to verbal spats, with Pei Yujang either unable to out-argue her or perhaps thinking it beneath her dignity to argue with someone so young. The original character had generally let things slide.
Pei Yujang's long lashes lowered, her wet skin as pale as jade, casting a shadow under the soft lighting. Her lips pressed into a thin line, indicating her displeasure and tension.
Jiang Wenxiu could even feel Pei Yujang's steady but powerful breath brushing against her face.
"What the hell is wrong with you—"
"Jiang Wenxiu," Pei Yujang called her by her full name, her voice calm and measured. "Am I your sister?"
Seeing the tension rise between the two, the maid and housekeeper quickly retreated, hoping to avoid the impending conflict.
Pei Yujang stared at her seriously. "Apologize to me."
"Apologize?" Jiang Wenxiu stepped back, shaking off her earlier unease. Her voice turned sharp. "Who do you think you—"
Before she could finish, Pei Yujang's fist shot out.
While the original character had some principles and would tolerate Jiang Wenxiu's behavior, likely for the sake of her mother's marriage, Pei Yujang didn't share this patience.
Better to set her straight while she's still young—waiting until she's grown up would be too late.
Jiang Wenxiu felt a sharp pain in her shoulder, as if her bones were being crushed, and she cried out in pain, collapsing to the ground under the force.
She had never been touched like this before. Pei Yujang's punch was so fast that Jiang Wenxiu couldn't even see it coming. Although she had taken some self-defense classes, she was still easily floored by Pei Yujang's single move.
The pain in her shoulder made Jiang Wenxiu furious, and she charged at Pei Yujang, ready to fight. But Pei Yujang remained calm, effortlessly grabbing her arm and deflecting her attack, draining all her strength.
Jiang Wenxiu's aggressive assault was no match for Pei Yujang's battle-hardened reflexes. To her, it was like dealing with a child's tantrum. In her time, even a ten-year-old would've been more skilled.
With a simple sweep of her leg, Pei Yujang sent Jiang Wenxiu sprawling to the floor. She landed with a thud, rolling over and struggling to get up.
Jiang Wenxiu lay on the floor, gasping for breath, her body aching as if she had been beaten severely. She tried to get up but found her shoulder too weak to support her. The housekeeper and maid stood frozen, unsure whether to intervene in the one-sided confrontation.
Jiang Wenxiu touched her face, shocked by the realization.
Had she just been beaten to a pulp by a Beta?
Not far away, Pei Yujang stood tall and composed, despite her wet clothes, showing no signs of distress. She was calm but ready for anything.
The original character didn't come home often, so the household staff likely favored Jiang Wenxiu. Seeing Pei Yujang treat her this way, they might call for help.
Jiang Wenxiu lay there for a long moment, her face down, lost in thought. Pei Yujang's sharp gaze swept over the housekeeper and maid, who quickly looked away, pretending not to see the conflict between the two sisters.
The sound of water dripping from Pei Yujang's pant legs broke the tense silence. At the same time, she watched as Jiang Wenxiu slowly got up, staggering toward her.
Pei Yujang's military instincts prepared her for defense, but in the next moment, a loud wail filled the room. Jiang Wenxiu, now crying like a child, clung to Pei Yujang's sleeve, sniffling pitifully:
"Jie, Yujang-jie, I won't dare do it again…"
