It's dark, what's going on? I can't feel my body, but I don't feel pain anymore. wasn't I just shot?
NOTICE: This is a result of your skill: Pain Nullification.
The voice sounded somewhat feminine, but also not, like it wasn't an actual voice. As rediculous as it sounds, it sounded almost like an AI voice generator was pumping straight into my head. But that's not possible, right?
Okay now what the hell was that, I can't hear anything but the words felt like they were echoing in my skull. And why does my voice sound weird? I sound like a younger version of myself. Or maybe a female version? I dunno, not top of my priorities right now. But where the hell am I?
NOTICE: You are located inside the Altan Mountain Labyrinth
Never heard of that before in my life, also who is talking?
NOTICE: I am your skill: Magic Guide
I'll ask about that later, but for now can you tell me why I can't feel my body? And why the hell is it still so dark?
NOTICE: This is the result of you not being used to your new body yet.
New body? What kinda anime cliché is this? Did I seriously get reincarnated? Why can't I open my eyes?
NOTICE: Your new body does not possess eyes.
Well if you're like the annoying reincarnation voices, can you give me the rundown of my new form? I can't see or feel a damn thing.
Here is a summary of your new form and skills:
SKILLS: Flawed Mimicry, Magic Guide, Pain Nullification, Devour, Magic Sight, Flesh Change, Dexterous Tongue, and your signature skill: Skill Absorb.
AGE: 21.333 Seconds
NAME: None
RACE: Mimic
ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? A DAMN MIMIC??? Also what the hell is with those skills? Pain Nullification is pretty self explanatory but what about dextrous tongue? Why does that do?
The skill Dexterous Tongue allows you to use your tongue as an extra limb. This can be combined with your species skills Flesh Change, which allows you to open a second mouth anywhere on your body, and Flawed Mimicry, allowing you to take on a slightly altered appearance of creatures you have consumed.
Consumed huh? I guess that's what the Devour skill is all about. Gross, but I'll probably figure out a use for it eventually. Hey Magic Guide, what's Skill Absorb?
Skill Absorb allows you to steal the skills of anything you eat.
Well that's kinda busted, guess it is just like that one slime anime. I just took RT's whole gimmick for myself, guess it really is a cliché. Magic Guide, how do I use Magic Sight? I wanna look around.
NOTICE: In order to use any of your skills, you need only think to activate it.
Well that's not helpful in the slightest, but I'll give it a shot. Magic Sight: Activate!
It took a moment, but soon enough I was able to see my surroundings fairly well. Stone brick walls surrounded me and led to a large metal door on the other side of the small, dimly lit room. The stone was yellowed with age, so it was clear to me that the labyrinth was very old. Small lanterns hung from the ceiling, holding small candles inside. It honestly looked more like a dungeon than a labyrinth. The floor was dirty and dead vines hung from the ceiling, a clear sign that no one lives here. I took a moment to look at myself as well while I was at it. All I saw was a chest, one you might see after clearing a level in a video game.
Dammit I guess I really am just a mimic huh? It sucks but at least it beats being dead. Barely.
I started thinking of ways to move around when I remembered what Magic Guide had said about my skill Dexterous Tongue. If I could just grab onto something with it, I could drag myself through the labyrinth and find something to eat. Maybe put some of my skills to the test, and make it easier to move around. So that's exactly what I did.
I opened my mimic mouth and launched my tongue across the room, grabbing the handle of the door and pulling. I could feel the dirt floor get dug up with every inch I moved forward, but I kept pulling anyway. After what seemed like hours, I reached the door to the room. Using my disgusting tongue ability, I pushed open the door and emerged into a long hallway with multiple branching paths. I took a moment and sat there in order to get my thoughts together.
It really is a labyrinth after all huh? Gonna be difficult to find my way out of here. I wonder if there are any monsters lurking around here.
NOTICE: Labyrinths are home to Soulless Monsters, and overseen by an Overlord. There are many scattered around the land of Phantos, all similar to each other. They are common places for Adventurers to explore, practice new skills, and search for loot. Thieves are also commonly found in the surrounding areas, hoping to score off of worn-out adventurers.
I guess there are slackers in this world too, wanting big gains for no effort. Still, I have to get out of here in order to deal with that anyway. But how are Soulless monsters different from normal monsters?
ANSWER: Soulless Monsters have no control over there actions, they are merely puppets for the Overlord of the Labyrinth. They become Soulless by making a deal with a Demon Lord, of which there are 12.
So as long as I don't piss off the Overlord by killing his monsters, I should be fine. However he might be annoyed that I'm here in the first place, considering that I'm not Soulless.
At that moment I felt a presence to my left, down the hallway. I quickly used my tongue to reposition myself to look at the possible threat and thats when I saw it: A zombie, one arm missing and a worn out dagger in the other. My first fight in another world was about to begin.
