Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Apocalypse Arrives!

Eggs are rich in protein and are quite useful, but in the later stages of the apocalypse, eggs have long since gone extinct.

Apart from these, Ye Chen also purchased a large amount of food that is rich in nutrients and has a long shelf life. As for vegetables and meat, he didn't buy any. Vegetables are good, but they spoil quickly. As for meat, it will be contaminated by viruses when the apocalypse happens and will rot, making it useless to buy.

Since Ye Chen bought so much food at once, the supermarket had to send a delivery person to help Ye Chen deliver it to the hotel. Ye Chen thought for a moment and then booked another room right next to his original one, solely for storing food.

When Ye Zhu saw this almost entire room full of food, she was stunned, her small mouth forming an "O" shape, but she restrained herself from asking too many questions.

After solving the food issue, Ye Chen checked the time; it was already three in the afternoon. He left the hotel and went to a hardware store to buy five watermelon knives. He initially only needed two, but to prevent the knives from breaking while killing zombies, he bought a few more as backups.

Finally, Ye Chen looked at the money he had left, about eight thousand. He took out a thousand to buy dozens of boxes of mineral water, in case the hotel's water pipes were broken by mutated rats in the underground water system. As for the remaining seven thousand, he bought gasoline with it.

Gasoline will explode when ignited and can be put into empty cans or mineral water bottles to use as small bombs, a preparation for encountering powerful mutated beasts.

When all this was done, it was already five in the afternoon. Ye Chen returned to the hotel with several watermelon knives, glanced at Ye Zhu wearily without saying a word, closed the door, threw the knives aside, and collapsed onto the bed.

"Let me sleep for a while, don't open the door no matter who knocks. Remember! Wake me up at seven." Ye Chen said tiredly before falling asleep.

He was really exhausted...

His current body hasn't been strengthened yet. After running around all day, he was already exhausted, so he fell asleep shortly after lying down.

Ye Zhu frowned slightly and sat silently on the sofa in the room, puzzled by Ye Chen's series of strange actions.

"Da da!"

There was a sound of footsteps outside the door.

Ye Zhu checked her watch; it was 7:02. She hesitated for a moment, intending to wake Ye Chen up, but seeing how peacefully he slept, she couldn't bear to disturb him. Hearing the footsteps outside the door, she frowned slightly, got up, and walked over.

The footsteps outside seemed to hear the movement. They were about to walk away but suddenly turned around and headed towards the door, knocking hard.

"The hotel staff are really strong!" Ye Zhu thought, twisting the doorknob and opening the door.

Roar!!

As soon as the door opened, a beast-like, hideous roar sounded. Ye Zhu saw a man in a black suit lunging at her. His face was covered in pustules, oozing foul-smelling yellow liquid, his eyes were light green, and his teeth protruded like a zombie. His nails were pitch black, three inches long, as sharp as knives.

"Ah!" Ye Zhu, who had never seen such a terrifying person, panicked, instinctively covering her face with her hands and screaming.

Splatter!

A spray of blood, and a figure fell to the ground with a thud.

"Don't be afraid!" A gentle voice, like heavenly music, sounded in her ear. Ye Zhu opened her eyes in surprise and saw Ye Chen, who had somehow woken up, holding a watermelon knife stained with black blood. The terrifying man who was about to pounce on her had his head split in two and lay on the ground, motionless.

"Bro, you... you killed someone!" Ye Zhu said in fear.

Ye Chen smiled and patted her shoulder, saying, "Go inside first, I'll explain later."

Ye Zhu glanced at him, thought for a moment, and then turned and walked into the room.

After she left, Ye Chen put away the smile on his face, squatted down, and dragged the zombie out of the room, leaving it at the door. Fortunately, there was only one zombie in the long corridor; otherwise, it would have been troublesome.

Ye Chen's eyes showed a hint of coldness. He slashed the zombie's chest with the watermelon knife, cutting its skin and revealing its internal organs. For this bloody behavior, he remained calm, as if he was used to it.

"No mutated flesh!" Ye Chen frowned, then shook his head, "Well, at least it takes ten zombies to find a piece of mutated flesh; it's not that easy to get."

He said, standing up and walking into the room, closing the door as if he had done something trivial.

As for handling the zombie's body?

There's no need for that.

It's well known that zombies are bloodthirsty; why don't they bite each other? It's because once they become zombies, their blood lacks a certain substance, turning from bright red to black, and zombies only like bright red blood.

So this zombie's body won't attract more zombies to Ye Chen.

Of course, later on, zombies will evolve a little bit of intelligence. They'll know if there's a corpse of their "own kind" here, there must be other creatures around, and they'll be attracted. But in the early stages, zombies are very "simple-minded."

In the room, Ye Zhu sat on the sofa in a daze, lost in thought.

Ye Chen placed the knife on the cabinet next to him, walked over, patted her shoulder, and smiled, "What are you thinking about?"

Ye Zhu looked at him, then sighed, "Brother, I believe you have your reasons for everything, but don't do anything foolish!"

Ye Chen couldn't help but laugh.

Ye Zhu looked at him strangely, "Why are you laughing?"

Ye Chen pinched her nose, "I know you must be full of questions, and since it's already happened, I'll tell you."

Ye Zhu looked puzzled.

Ye Chen put away his smile, thought for a moment, organized his words, and then looked at her seriously, "The one I killed just now wasn't a human, but a zombie!"

"Zombie?" Ye Zhu was shocked.

Ye Chen nodded, "You might not believe it, but the world outside has already turned into an apocalypse since seven o'clock. A virus storm has swept across the world from North America, and at seven o'clock, 70% of the world's population turned into zombies. All animals have evolved into terrifying bloodthirsty monsters!"

Ye Zhu's eyes widened. She had never doubted Ye Chen's words, but this was too shocking.

Global apocalypse?

Since 2010, countless people have speculated about the end of the world in 2012. Earthquakes and natural disasters seemed to indicate this, and in Japan, a nuclear leak caused many marine organisms to mutate slightly.

But in reality, there was no apocalypse in 2012, and all the speculations were proven wrong. But now, Ye Chen says there are monsters everywhere; it's hard to believe.

Ye Chen, knowing her thoughts, didn't say much. It's difficult for people to accept this cruel reality all at once. So he simply warned, "Anyway, don't open the door for anyone!"

Ye Zhu, still in a daze, nodded.

Ye Chen walked to the sofa next to him, thinking about the upcoming events, and let Ye Zhu have some quiet time.

"Brother…" Ye Zhu suddenly called.

Ye Chen turned around in surprise. The girl seemed to have calmed down, looking at him with determination, "I believe you!"

Ye Chen's heart trembled, his blood seemed to boil for a moment. After a moment, he said strangely, "You believe what I said?"

Ye Zhu nodded seriously, "Brother has never lied to me since I was a child."

Ye Chen smiled bitterly.

Ye Zhu playfully blinked, showing no fear or worry about the apocalypse. She acted like a mischievous child, raising her hand, "Brother, I have a question!"

Ye Chen touched his nose, "Go ahead."

Ye Zhu blinked slyly, "How do you know about the apocalypse, brother?"

Ye Chen was momentarily speechless, coughed, and then said righteously, "Well, it's a divine dream, divine protection. You know, your brother is a lucky star. Hey, don't yawn; at least let me finish? Huh, already asleep?"

Ye Zhu opened her eyes after he finished, pouting, "Alright, another question then."

Ye Chen touched his nose, "Go ahead."

Ye Zhu thought for a moment, "Why did we move here? If we're looking for a stronghold, there are better places, like the countryside, fewer people, fewer zombies."

This time, Ye Chen didn't evade the question, seriously saying, "There are two reasons for choosing this place. First, hotels are convenient and clean! In the apocalypse, not only do humans turn into zombies, but mosquitoes and other insects will also evolve into monsters, even more terrifying than zombies! And the place with the fewest mosquitoes is a five-star hotel."

Ye Zhu understood, "So, the countryside is more dangerous than the city?"

Ye Chen nodded. Most people, seeing so many zombies, would think the countryside is safer. In reality, if humans can mutate into zombies, other animals can become even more terrifying monsters!

And there are naturally more animals in the countryside than in other places…

"What's the second reason?"

"The second reason is that the hotel
