"We should've stayed in the hotel" I scoffed adjusting myself on the floor. The place was stuffy and so noisy i couldn't think straight.
"Yeah right... We would've ran out of food and supplies " Elise said and that annoyed me more. Why does she always have to be so positive.
"If you keep staring at them you'll definitely freak them out" Jake said which made my heart nearly leave my body because of how close he was to me. How didn't i notice that.
"I'm just tring to observe yunno" I shrugged.
"Yeah well i think you have to be more worried about getting robbed, raped, kidna..."
"Hey ! Thanks alot I feel so much better now"I sat up glaring at him which made him chuckle.
I then watched as the workers passed around food in plastic bags for us to eat which made my stomach grumbled excitedly.
"You must be really hungry" Elise said as her stomach grumbled too"I'm so... hungry too"
I took the plastic bag from the worker as our turn came and i thanked her as i pulled out the contents. There was a bottle of water ,a sandwich, and some cookies and i got to work yeah eating.
The room was packed and stuffy. I noticed all the armed men around looking sternly for a sick person by constantly eying each of us. I just hope they don't use the guns again the last time it was used , it wasn't really a nice sight.
" Attention everyone" one the armed men said stepping forward "we have an announcement from the national tv quiet down so we can all hear" the place immediately went mute as we all waited for the broadcast to be played. I guess when it comes to life and death, everyone is quite interested.
The broadcast began and murmurs erupted from every corner of the room which made it hard for me to listen. The only thing I could pick was that the island was in a state of emergency, everyone should stay indoors and avoid contact with the infected.
I mean I'm sure everyone knows this already.
"So the island is in the state of emergency which means... No planes?" Elise asked panicked.
"Well I guess"
"Then how the fuck are we supposed to get of this island" Elise asked
"I don't know ok.... We'll have to find another way"
"What about boats" Jake said I swear I keep forgetting there's someone like him because i jumped ."or ships"
"Yeah... You're right... We need to get to the ships" Elise sound unenthusiastic.
"Elise darling... How do you suppose we do that huh?" I sounded strained because i am stressed "the road is swamped with sick people who are hunting for our flesh and ... No service to call our parents at the moment and.... We can't even operate it"
"Yeah .... You're right we're fucked" she said with her mouth full.
"Um..... It's not good to talk with your mouth full" a small voice said behind us.
I turned and saw a little girl with red hair and light brown eyes looking at Elise with a disapproving look. This made me laugh.
"Huh?" Elise said obviously taken aback.
"My pops said you'll choke if you eat with your mouth full" the girl said as she tucked her hair behind her ears.
"And your pops is right it's not good to talk with your mouth full" I said with my mouth full too.
"Your mouth is full too" the girl said and Elise chuckled.
"What's your name?" I asked immediately I finished chewing trying to respect this sweet bahy girl. She was about to answer but a voice stopped her.
"Lena! " The little girl jumped making us to all turn. A tall boy who looked exactly like her well except for their hair came towards us his hair was brown and he was well.... fine.
"Lester" the girl said as she smiled innocently.
"I told you to stay close to me "
"I was playing" the girl said twirling her hair. He sighed and looked our way .
"I'm so sorry hope she wasn't bothering y'all" he smiled.
"Oh no she wasn't" I smiled back and he nodded.
"I'm Lester and this is Lena" he pointed to the little girl.
"I'm Ethel ,this is Elise and well this is Jake" I smiled trying to hold back the butterflies in my belly.
"Where are you guys from" Lena asked adjusting on the floor. This girl was getting real comfy around here.
"New York" I said and she nodded like she knew but the way her eyes wandered let me know she didn't have any idea about what i was talking about.
"We're from Canada" she grinned. "My pops said people come here to drink" she said and Lester looked taken aback.
"Lena..." Her brother said in a warning tone. And I laughed
" Well he's not wrong we actually came here for our last year of freedom before going to college... But not to drink mostly" I said with a wink.
"We're here on vacation" Lester finally said.
"Can we stay with you guys?" Lena asked with so much hope in her eyes. "Lester is boring"
"Hey" Lester said pushing Lena softly making her giggle.
"Of course you can" Elise said. She was obviously saying it because of Lester not Lena. Well me too.
Lena jumped up and ran back with her brother behind her. After a while, they came back almost immediately with Lena pulling her little suitcase and Lester with their cots. They set all their things and we began to talk well just about life and all
Lena was a carefree kid she spoke so well and with so much energy but unlike Elise who seemed very happy to answer all her questions, i wasn't really good with kids. So, i just sat at the side and listened.
" I'm so sorry my sister can be a handful" Lester said trying to break the ice as we were all just sitting watching Elise and Lena talk.
"Oh no problem" I smiled " well my sister seems to be enjoying it" I laughed .
"You guys are sisters?" He asked looking from Elise to me with disbelief in his eyes. Wait until he finds out we're actually twins.
"You're actually the first to look surprised" I said.
"Well ... Now I can see how your face looks the similar" he said still looking from me to her. "Who's older?"
"Well we're twins"
"Really? wow" he said looking more confused which was so amusing.
"What about your ...urm... parents" I asked slowly silently praying that they weren't dead and I didn't open up a wound because trust me i can't handle another trauma dumping moment.
" Well they're in Canada" I guess my face looked so confused so he went on "we came here with them but they had to go back for an emergency and didn't want to cut our vacation short"
"Ooh makes sense" I smiled with relief. Phew! "Well.... I just hope they bring emergency planes" he nodded.
"I hope this place is safe tho" Lester said making me look around. Hell i actually forgot we were here. Guess a pretty boy is actually all you need to take your mind off things for a while.
"I hope " i really really hope.
I rolled on the cot which was cold and very uncomfortable and finally gave up as I stared at the ceiling. I looked to my side and Elise was sleeping peacefully beside me with her arms all up wrapped around Lena who was also sleeping soundly. I sighed as I turned one more time.
"Can't sleep?" Jake's voice sounded as a whisper from across the room.
"Oh my what gave it away" I rolled my eyes. Like he could see me.
"You're really cranky huh?" He smiled.
"Well... When you're in a death situation I think you'll be too don't you think?" I said.
"Shhhh" Elise said slowly "you'll wake Lena " she said this with her eyes closed. "Keep your flirting for tomorrow" we both said sorry and I turned to the other side and closed my eyes trying to force myself to sleep.
Like I was cursed, i promise you i think something put a hex on me or something. Because as I was drifting into sleep, I heard a shrilling scream and the whole room turned upside down.Elise shot up along with the others looking confused.
"Hurry!!" Lester screamed as we gathered up our stuff. I was struggling to zip my suitcase as I stumbled.
"We have to leave them Eth" Elise screamed and I knew she was right. We can't possibly wheel through the sick people. And this made me mad. Why why why!!!.
"Lester .... I'm scared" Lena said as she looked at her brother teary eyed clinging to hid shirt like a puppy looking for shelter.
"It's ok we'll get out of here" Lester held her hands as he led us through the scattered crowd. Everyone was running around and screaming which made it harder to navigate.
We ran towards the hallway which led to the classes but it was swamped with sick people and they were coming for us. This made my heart drop. How on earth did they get in.
"Run!" Lester held Lena by the hand and dragged her. We ran to the other side leading to other sets of classes and ran passed some classes locked with sick people in it and it was getting scarier every second that passed.
"Hurry!" I ran as I saw dead bodies of some students with uniforms scattered on the floor. I saw the exit sign and the happiness that built in me covered up the nausea. I sighed in relief as I ran and pulled the dor with all the strength i could muster.
It opened with a loud sound and i felt like the girl in everything everything. The light hut my face making my eyes burn.
"Damn I haven't seen outside in like forever" Elise said beside me and i couldn't agree more. Outside looked foreign.
As we all stepped outside, the silence amongst us told me they where thinking the same thing.
"Shit" Lester said as he stepped beside me. Yeah shit is what I was thinking. The street was lifeless and bloody. There where crashed cars everywhere. Both bloody and covered with human parts.
The silence sent a shiver down my spine and I wasn't liking it one bit.
"Where do we go from here" Elise held my hands and I could feel her squeezing it andvi squeezed back.
"I don't know Elise...." I said looking from left to right. "shouldn't we at least get weapons? You know... Incase those sick people attack again"
"Yeah....you're right but where on earth will we get weapons" Jake said and I turned to look at him. He really has no presence what so ever.
" I think we passed a store and I'm sure they have something even though it's a bat" Lester said and I nodded.
"True" but the only problem is....
"We have to be careful I think there are such people around" see..... The twin thing is real
"Elise is right" I said "we have to be very careful".
"But I don't think walking to a store is careful" Jake said.
"Yeah let's use my car" Lester said as he brought a bunch of keys out of his pocket.
"Really ? You had a car this whole time and you're mentioning it now?" I rolled my eyes.
"Yeah well it never came up.... So let's go?" He was parked at the entrance of the school which I'm sure was packed with sick people.
As we walked back into the building, I saw a hockey stick which looked really strong and i grabbed it. Wow at least we had hope of weapons. Elise a broken chair leg and Jake took table leg. I hope this gets us through.
