Chapter 15 - The Illusion of Control

Harith used an old tactic when he fought Hector: instilling "Self-Efficacy" within Varozmen to enhance his confidence in his own abilities and motivate him to keep fighting and defeat Harith in the next round.

No matter what, even if Harith's leg would be slashed by a knife, causing blood to drip into a bowl, the pain was nothing more than ordinary — like being struck by a soft cloth.

"You know, today your name will no longer be heard in this world," Varozmen chuckled wickedly, his lips curling into a sinister smile.

He was like a devil once residing in heaven, but the spectrum of arrogance consumed him, leading to his fall to Earth for defying God's power and rebelling against paradise.

Harith showed no emotion whatsoever. The coldness of his expression was truly terrifying, like a psychopath devoid of empathy. Harith had complete control over his body; he could regulate his heartbeat. This technique is called Biofeedback or autonomic body regulation.

"That sounds scary. I've never felt anything like that before, but maybe today I'll finally experience it," Harith said, shuffling the cards and placing the stack in the center of the table — 145 cards arranged neatly.

Varozmen drew 5 sword cards and 5 ordinary human cards, and so did Harith.

"Let me roll the dice," Varozmen said with a confident smile.

He rolled the dice and got three dots. Then it was Harith's turn to roll — he rolled five dots.

Both players are focused on winning this game; Harith must face death, while Varozmen will confront defeat and the destruction of his identity.

Harith draws a card from the deck, and he gets a sword card, which he immediately stores.

Varozmen also draws a card from the deck; he receives a poison card but does not want to show any expression, as he does not want Harith to read him.

Varozmen's card arrangement is quite good; he has obtained a poison card that can be combined with the sword card, adding layered attacks.

Meanwhile, Harith has obtained a sword card but does not have a vaccine or shield. If Varozmen attacks him directly with the poison card, Harith must sacrifice one of his normal human cards. However, Varozmen will not attack Harith directly, considering that Harith can still counter Varozmen's poison card with a normal human card.

Harith draws a card from the deck, and this time he receives a shield card, which he immediately stores.

He must have drawn a poison card, considering he looks calm, which means he has drawn a better card than mine; moreover, he would never openly attack my cards using his poison card, because the poison card can be countered by a normal human card.

Varozmen draws a card from the deck and receives a normal human card. He immediately places the normal human card on the table to protect the king card.

Harith quickly draws a card from the deck and this time gets a spear card. Harith immediately stores the card.

Varozmen drew a card from the deck and got the poison card once again; two poison cards strengthened Varozmen's attack against Harith's card.

"Heh heh," Varozmen chuckled as he placed one of his poison cards on the table while pointing at the queen card.

"I attack your queen card with my poison card," Varozmen carved a sly smile.

Harith sacrificed his normal human card, causing Varozmen to laugh and think that Harith didn't have a Shield card or a vaccine card.

Varozmen took Harith's normal human card and set it aside.

Harith drew a card from the deck and got another normal human card.

Harith immediately stored it, while Varozmen also drew a card from the deck and got a spear card.

Varozmen quickly played his normal human card, combining it with the sword card and the poison card, adding layers to his attack.

Harith quickly placed three normal human cards, remembering that such an attack could knock down two normal human cards.

Varozmen felt increasingly confident; he was sure that Harith would eventually lose. No matter how far Harith went, he would encounter a wall blocking his path, ending his journey in the Sahara desert.

Varozmen immediately took two of Harith's normal human cards and set them aside.

Harith quickly drew a card from the deck and got another normal human card. Harith used a 0% probability to ensure he wouldn't draw a good card.

Harith drew the card and placed it in front of the king card.

Varozmen immediately drew a card from the deck and got a poison card again, showing just how lucky Varozmen was in this game.

It was as if Varozmen had a demon behind him telling him the position of good cards to draw; the demon seemed to have become a part of Varozmen and a part of his very existence.

"Heh, you know you're going to scream after this," Varozmen chuckled wickedly, feeling pleasure in waiting to hear Harith's cries filled with pain and pleading.

Harith quickly drew a card from the deck and got a sword card.

Harith immediately played his sword card, combining it with a normal human card.

"I attack your king card," Harith pointed at Varozmen's king card.

Varozmen quickly sacrificed his normal human card. He then drew a card from the deck and got a shield card.

"Heh heh," Varozmen immediately set aside that card.

I don't care! I just want to hear his pleading screams, his cries filled with sorrow and pain!

Harith then drew his spear card early, combining it with a normal human card.

"I attack your king card," Harith pointed at Himzed's king card with a gaze as cold as ice.

Varozmen played his normal human card, sacrificing two of his normal human cards.

Varozmen immediately drew a card from the deck and got a poison card.

Hahahahahahahahahahahaaaa!

Varozmen was filled with pride, feeling that victory was on his side.

Varozmen quickly set the card aside. Harith drew a card from the deck and got a normal human card.

A player can only draw a maximum of 5 normal human cards; if they draw more than 5, they must place the extra normal human cards aside. By coincidence, Harith only drew normal human cards 3 times.

Harith set aside his normal human card and placed it in front of his queen card.

Varozmen immediately played the poison card combined with a sword card and a normal human card, attacking Harith's normal human card. The combination of cards instantly sacrificed both of Harith's normal human cards.

Harith quickly drew a card from the deck, ignoring Varozmen's attack, not attempting to protect either his king or queen cards.

The queen card is a set used to strengthen other cards; if the queen card is defeated, the card combinations can no longer be used. That is the rule of the Kingdom Defense Card game.

Harith drew a normal human card from the deck, marking the fourth time he had drawn a normal human card.

Harith set aside the normal human card, then played his spear card, attacking Varozmen's queen card.

"I attack your queen card."

Varozmen immediately blocked with a shield card. Harith then drew another card from the deck and got a normal human card once again. It seemed like Harith was manipulating his own luck, considering he had an intuition that surpassed all normal humans, but he intentionally manipulated his luck to become 0%

"Hmmm," Harith murmured softly, creating an emotional manipulation in Varozmen's mind, making Varozmen feel increasingly confident.

Heh heh, I told you, this kid is nothing to me; he's just a pile of trash waiting to be torn apart by my hands , Varozmen thought with a sly smile.

This manipulation truly guided Varozmen's thoughts to the highest level, implanting every action and move of Harith into Varozmen's mind, making Varozmen believe that he was the one in control of everything.

Varozmen drew a card from the deck and got the shield card once again, showing a high level of luck.

Varozmen quickly set aside his shield card.

Harith drew a card from the deck, and once again he got a normal human card; this was the fifth time. "Hmmmm," Harith murmured again, pretending to be confused, his face filled with nervousness. He was able to control his microexpressions perfectly as if the emotion were real.

Haha! Look! Look! He's confused! I will win

Varozmen combined his poison card with a sword card. He didn't combine it with his normal human card, knowing he would run out of normal human cards, so he only used the two combinations.

Why are these three combinations deadlier than the two combinations? The two combinations can only take down one card, while these three combinations can take down two cards at once.

These two combinations can take down armor cards, while these three combinations can take down two armor cards and one shield card.

Varozmen immediately placed his two combinations and attacked Harith's queen card. "I'm attacking your queen card." A wicked smile was etched on his face, indicating his victory.

Harith drew his shield card and placed it down, protecting his queen card.

Varozmen chuckled; he immediately drew a card from the deck and got a poison card once again. Varozmen's luck was truly insane!

Varozmen immediately combined that poison card with his sword card, attacking Harith's king card.

"I attack your king card!" Varozmen laughed loudly, like a wild beast ready to pounce on its prey.

Harith sacrificed his normal human card and quickly drew a card from the deck, getting a normal human card once again. Harith was clearly defeated in this first round.

Harith immediately placed his normal human card aside.

Himzed laughed loudly, his face filled with excitement and madness, "Hahahahahaha!" Varozmen glanced at his subordinates.

"Get ready, bring a bowl and a knife, cut a little piece from the back of his leg, and collect the blood in the bowl."

"Understood, master." Varozmen's other subordinates moved to grab the knife and bowl.

Varozmen chuckled, feeling satisfaction; this was just the first round, and he had already won it.

"You can't defeat me, Harith~" Varozmen said mockingly.

Harith's hands were tightly bound to the chair so he couldn't resist or struggle, and at that moment, the skin on the back of Harith's leg was cut, and his blood was gradually filled into the bowl.

Harith expressed his emotions, false emotions, fake emotions that indicated he was in pain. Harith's strong mentality was kept inside him; those false emotions were merely an act, hiding his true intentions.

"Ahhhhh!" Harith writhed, struggling in pain; all of his actions were just a façade.

Varozmen laughed at the sight, "Hahahaha! So funny!" Varozmen rubbed Harith's cheek before returning to his chair.

"Untie him, I will continue the second round with him," Varozmen chuckled.

Harith's cut was covered with a bandage to prevent his blood from flowing out continuously.

Harith looked at Varozmen with a cold gaze, smiling, "Yes… you really are frightening… I'm crying…" Harith controlled his microexpression into one of sadness.

Varozmen laughed wickedly, not caring; he just wanted to see Harith die slowly, "You admit it, I am the god of this underworld!"

Daro looked dizzy, sweat dripping from his forehead, his heart racing; this fatigue created an illusion where he saw General Yumi approaching, holding a human head.

General Yumi, seeing Daro exhausted, immediately approached him, "How is it? You're tired, aren't you? I brought you a melon, Daro." General Yumi straightened Daro's slumped position back to upright.

"Sit down and rest, you look tired from this intense training." General Yumi opened the melon with his own hands; his grip was truly strong.

"T-thank you… I feel a bit dizzy…" Daro took the fresh melon and began to eat its flesh.

General Yumi also handed him a wooden bottle filled with water.

"Drink this; you must be dehydrated," General Yumi chuckled and patted Daro's head.

Daro blushed; General Yumi was truly caring towards him, "Thank you… I'm grateful to have someone who cares for me." Daro opened the bottle cap and gulped down the water from the wooden bottle.

General Yumi smiled, feeling a deep affection for Daro, not just ordinary care but something intimate.

"Let's continue to the second round; I can't wait to see you die slowly," Varozmen laughed, the cruelty of this man showing that he was a devil disguised as a human.

Someone must possess an evil nature; they always hide it with sweet smiles and kindness based on actions, not true intentions. Humans are filthy creatures; they are the true trash, only given awareness so they can walk and build a nation.

Harith simply nodded slowly, his face filled with emptiness, but his mind was filled with cunning.

"Alright…"
