Chapter 19 - Chapter 18: The One Behind You

As the cosmic negotiations faltered, tension crackled in the air. Alex Greid sensed the shift, a palpable urgency urging him into action. He had endured too much already, and now, faced with the prospect of containment by these omnipotent beings, he felt a fire ignite within him.

With a determined flick of his wrist, he activated his Hyperspeed Thought Acceleration, surpassing the speed of light. Instantly, the world around him began to slow, the cosmic entities closing in on him freezing mid-motion. He watched in awe as their expressions crystallized—an amalgamation of determination and surprise, their forms blurring slightly as they moved just a hair closer.

Every cosmic being that had once been an overwhelming force now appeared suspended in time, save for one: The One Above All, who remained enveloped in a radiant golden light.

Their eyes locked, and for a few heartbeats, it was as if the universe itself had come to a standstill. Alex felt an electric mixture of awe and awkwardness as he stood against the weight of eternity itself.

"The anomaly," the voice of The One Above All resonated with a calm that contrasted sharply against the chaos of the situation. "I sense the being behind you exceeds even my imagination."

Alex narrowed his eyes, frustration bubbling beneath the surface. "What does that mean? Why do you see me as a threat? I have no malice in my heart!"

"The balance of the omniverse and indeed, all omniverses, relies on the constraints of existence. Your presence disrupts that balance," The One Above All explained, his tone serene yet unyielding. "I have already informed the beings of other omniverses of your existence. It is in your best interest to accept your role in the prison universe."

Alex's heart raced with disbelief and anger. "You want me to go back? Are you serious? Why would I ever want to return to a place where I suffered for so long? I just got here. Do you think I trust you?"

"It is not a matter of trust. It is necessary," The One Above All stated simply, his golden light shimmering softly around them. "Returning to your prison is the only solution to the problem I face regarding you and the one behind you."

Shock coursed through Alex, mingled with resentment. "Oh, you can't do this to me. You know how much I sacrificed! You think I'm just going to sit back and let you throw me back into a cage? You're underestimating me."

As the tension swelled, The One Above All raised his hand, golden light encircling Alex like an impenetrable cage. "It is not a decision you can make, Alex Greid."

But before the light could fully envelop him, reality flickered like a faulty bulb, and suddenly, everything reset.

Alex blinked, caught off guard. The cosmic beings stood frozen again, a surreal moment captured in time. Even The One Above All appeared shocked, his omnipotent nature momentarily stifled by the abruptness of the reset.

"What…?" The One Above All's voice faltered, confusion etched on his face. For the first time in his existence, there was something he couldn't grasp. He should have been omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent, but even he was dumbfounded.

He looked at Alex with an expression of disbelief, the golden light flickering as if it too was unsure of its own existence. "I cannot intervene… Someone has altered the timeline."

Before Alex could react, the presence of The One Above All faded, his figure dissolving into the shimmering void.

Alex stood alone, momentarily caught between disbelief and a surge of exhilaration. This could be it. This is my chance.

The cosmic beings, still in a slow-motion stasis, began to shift once more, their movements resembling a slow-motion chase. Among them, shadows of nightmares from the comics loomed. Lady Death, Galactus, the hosts of the Phoenix, and others he had once regarded with awe.

Panic flickered in Alex's chest, but he steeled himself, amplifying his Hyperspeed Thought Acceleration even further. He needed to stay ahead. His mind raced, curbing their movements, but it wasn't enough to match the speed of QuickSilver.

Amidst the chaos, his gaze fell upon the weakest of them all, The Watcher, Uatu. An idea struck him, a glimmer of hope amidst the overwhelming odds.

With a burst of energy, he teleported behind Uatu, unleashing a swift punch to the back of his head. The blow landed hard, and Uatu felt the pain radiate through him as he was sent crashing into a crystal glass-like wall, shattering it and propelling him into another universe.

"Out of the game, at least for now," Alex muttered to himself, a grin tugging at his lips. The satisfaction of finally landing a hit on the enigmatic Watcher was eclipsed only by the urgency of his situation.

As Uatu tumbled into the void, Alex seized the opportunity to inject him with a swarm of nanites. They'd invade Uatu's brain, siphoning knowledge from the vast reservoir of information he possessed. After all, Uatu was tasked with observing and documenting civilizations across the multiverse, and with that knowledge, Alex might just gain an advantage in the escalating confrontation.

With the cosmic beings gradually accelerating, he prepared for battle. He had no time to waste, not with entities of unimaginable power drawing closer. The knowledge he could harvest from Uatu was vital, and though the odds were slim, he wasn't ready to give up.

As he steeled himself for the imminent fight, Alex couldn't shake the feeling that this was only the beginning of a struggle far beyond anything he had ever faced before.
