Chapter 4 - Opening Stone Part 2

Jones stood at attention and saluted the Lieutenant. After he saluted back, she put her arm down and said, "Perfect timing, sir; we were just about to begin."

"Fantastic. I was hoping I didn't miss it. I wanted to see if we were going to get any outstanding soldiers this time," he replied.

Corporal Jones Looked at her clipboard and flipped a page over and held it in place by her fingers holding the clipboard. "I will call out your name, and you will come up and place both hands on the opening stone," she stated.

After Corporal Jones pulled the pen out from the top of the clipboard, she said the first name. "Jasmine Harris, please step up and touch the Opening Stone."

The brown-haired girl that was not too long ago fighting with Justin stood up and began waling upfront toward the pedestal. Eric noticed how pretty she was as she was walking up front. This wasn't something he was used to noticing because he was always having to watch his back and be ready for a fight no matter where he was. Since he was a nobody from a useless ability family, he did not mean much to anyone, and he seemed like easy prey. But her beauty seemed to outshine all of the others. Her looks and even her demeanor made her more beautiful.

Jasmine placed both of her hands on the stone. After just a few moments, water started dripping from her hand and down the rock. Corporal Jones looked down at her clipboard and wrote something down.

"It looks like we have our first ability of the day. Water. You may take your seat," Corporal Jones said.

As soon as Jasmine stepped away from the pedestal, the entire class started clapping. Her face became red from embarrassment. She does not like getting attention. She doesn't mind doing things in front of others but hates being the center of attention.

, Eric thought.

"Tyler Franklin," Corporal Jones called out.

A pale-looking student with slicked-back hair stood up and began walking forward. Almost immediately after placing his hands on the stone, his hands began to glow red. The water that was left from Jasmine started to steam away.

"Always a nice ability to see," Lieutenant said out loud to himself.

"Fire, you may sit down." Jones declared

The class started clapping again as he took his seat.

"Alexander Hurst."

A student with brown hair parted neatly to the right side and with a lot of freckles stood up and adjusted his black wire frame glasses. He walked up there and placed his hands on the stone like the others before. This time it took a little over a minute. His hand started to change. It looked as if his hands were becoming rocks.

"Earth, please take your seat." Said again while writing something down on the clipboard, just like each time.

Shed called ten more people up. Stating their ability and everyone clapping as they sat back down every time all the while Corporal Jones would write things down.

"Vincent Conner," Jones called out.

Vincent stood up and placed his hand on the stone. It was another minute before anything happened. Smoke started coming up from where his hands were.

"We could definitely work with that," the lieutenant said to himself again, where everyone could hear.

"We don't see this one often. Smoke. If you work hard, this can be a great ability. You may take your seat," Jones said, breaking her robotic responses.

Once again, everyone was clapping while He was sitting down.

A student with red curly hair was called up. A yellow sparking stream formed around his hand. He was a Lightning user. Then the spiky blonde-haired jerk, Justin Acer, was called up.

"I hope he doesn't even get an ability today. That would humble him," Eric thought and hoped for.

Right before Justin's hands touched the stone, his hand was covered in frost. As soon as his hands touched the stone. The stone became covered in ice.

Everyone in the room eyes had widen in amazement at the display of potential power.

"That's the kind of student I'm looking for," the lieutenant said, where he could be heard by all.

There was a much louder applause while going back to his seat because of the display of power he just showed.

"Of course, good things always happen to the Jerks," Eric thought while his anger was growing.

"Eric Carson," Corporal Jones said with a robotic tone due to the monotony.

Eric stood up and ran his hand through his messy red hair before walking up front. He placed both hands on the opening stone, and nothing happened immediately. One minute. Two minute. Three minute. Four minute. Five Minute. Still Nothing.

"Ugh, why does this have to happen to me?" Eric asked himself as his face was becoming red out of embarrassment.

"This has a tendency of happening. His ability will show up in two to three days. This does determine one..." Corporal Jones said before Lieutenant Carter interrupted.

"Move on, Corporal," Lieutenant Carter said firmly.

"uuuh. Sir, yes, sir," Corporal Jones replied.

"Loser!!!!" Yelled Justin at Eric with laughter at the end, "Useless trash will stay useless trash!"

"Grow Up!" Jasmine scolded at Justin.

"Silence!" Corporal Jones said. Her eyes were glowing red. A blast of heat could be felt from all in the classroom.

All the commotion stopped. A brief moment of silence came over the entire room until they all said, "Ma'am, yes, ma'am."

Eric walked back to his chair with his head down. No clapping was heard. Why would they? It would just cause them to be on Justin's bad side. Everyone only looks out for themselves. It was nice that through that moment there was one person who stuck up for him. Eric didn't know it was possible, but Jasmine became more beautiful in his eyes."

"I got to find a way to talk to her," he thought while watching the eight other students go up for the opening.
