Rex set down the knife, took the credit card from Lorna, and walked to the counter. He charged Joy $10,000, then returned the card, saying, 'So, Ms. Meachum, what's the matter?'
Rex, thinking about the $10,000 he'd just made, simply said, 'Go ahead.'"
"If what Danny has been telling me about is true, then Rand Enterprises is in great trouble! I'm afraid that just Danny and I are not enough to face all this trouble. We need my brother Ward on our side! If we are all together, we could get through this. However, without evidence, Ward will not believe us! Please help me convince him."
"Ms. Meachum, I don't like proving myself to people. I've chosen to get you to feel Ki purely for Danny... But wait!" Rex's eyes widened in alarm, and he shoved Joy to the ground, shouting, 'Get down!'"
Joy was thrown off balance by Rex's sudden push, landing hard on the floor. She gasped, then watched in horror as the glass door behind her shattered, a black axe spinning through the air where she'd been standing. Rex's push had saved her life.
"Be careful!" Joy yelled, As the axe whizzed towards the wall, he reached out and grabbed the handle.
"Who did I provoke?" Rex growled, his eyes narrowed.
Rex's gaze swept across the shattered door, landing on six bald men, their faces grim, axes in hand. Their tattoos screamed of a certain Chinese gang.
"The Axe Gang? They exist in this world as well?" Rex muttered, his voice tight with disbelief.
Rex didn't hesitate. 'Stay down! Call the cops!' he yelled to Joy. Then, he turned to Lorna, 'Take Peter and hide in the back!'"
Rex snatched the axe and hurled it out the door. Then, he charged out after it, punching the first gangster who got in his way.
Rex kept his attacks simple, using Jan Ken Gu (Rock). A blue line of Ki pulsed around his fist, barely visible to the naked eye.
The gangster flew backwards, blood spraying from his chest. He landed with a thud, coughing up blood and writhing in pain. Rex had broken his ribs and inflicted serious internal injuries.
"Five more to go..." Rex gritted his teeth, his eyes burning with resolve.
Jan Ken Gu was the most efficient way to fight at his current level. It gave him enough power to inflict serious damage, but it didn't drain his Ki as quickly as other techniques.
Time was on his side. The police would be here soon. After taking down one enemy, Rex took a step back, holding up his hand to stop the others from advancing.
Rex knew the gangsters were after Joy. He had to keep them out of the store, protect her, and keep Lorna out of the fight. Her lack of control could be dangerous.
The remaining gangsters stared at their fallen comrade, fear creeping into their eyes. They were facing a martial arts master. They hesitated, each waiting for someone else to make the first move.
A gangster with a mustache finally charged forward, screaming in Chinese, 'I'll slice you up!'"
Rex's eyes flashed. He dodged the axe, then unleashed a powerful punch, his Ki crackling around his fist. The gangster was sent flying backwards, his body convulsing from the force of the impact.
He soared through the air, a human projectile, before crashing back down to the ground.
He crumpled to the ground, his eyes rolling back, his face contorted in agony. A wave of fear washed over the remaining gangsters. They had seen the power of Rex's Ki firsthand.
Rex stood, his gaze fixed on the remaining gangsters. He waited for their next move.
The remaining gangsters were paralyzed with fear. They stood their ground, their formation broken. Rex saw his opportunity and charged, a blur of motion, like a tiger unleashed.
