The tempestuous night raged on as Airi navigated the winding path through the River Meadows' Edge. Despite the relentless thunderstorm, the landscape possessed an eerie, captivating beauty. Japanese maples and weeping cherry trees lined the riverbank, their branches engaged in a frenzied dance with the howling wind. Wild lilies, chrysanthemums, and spider lilies adorned the grasslands, their petals emitting an otherworldly glow with each electrifying flash of lightning. The sweet fragrance of blooming roses mingled with the petrichor intoxicated night air. Deer grazed warily in the undulating grass, while tanuki darted between the ancient trees.
Venturing deeper along the path, a sinister transformation slowly unfolded. The once-peaceful creatures turned turbulent, their instincts overwhelmed by an unseen force. Birds erupted from their perches, their discordant cries piercing the night like shards of shattered glass. The smaller inhabitants of the meadow vanished into their burrows, seeking refuge from the encroaching omen. The resilient insects fell into an unnerving silence, as if to acknowledge an formidable darkness stirring in the shadows.
Wooden bridges, worn by time and the elements, crisscrossed the serpentine creek. The air shimmered with the residual energy of the shockwave, casting an ethereal frost upon the delicate flowers. As the creek expanded into a lagoon, the water's pristine clarity gradually surrendered to an inky darkness, mirroring the shift in the atmosphere.
The vibrant array of flora morphed into a twisted mockery of its former self. Colors drained away, leaving behind pale, grotesque variations of once-beautiful blooms. The fireflies, harbingers of whimsy and wonder, dissipated, replaced by an unearthly luminescence emanating from the depths of the lagoon. In the distance, at the edge of the deteriorating meadow, an imposing silhouette of a monument to forgotten atrocities and unspeakable acts slowly surfaced from the storm-wracked darkness - Mizu no Jigoku Prison.
Unbothered by the change in scenery, Airi continued forward. The treacherous ground below her feet bore intricate sealing engravings, their patterns spiraling outward from the prison's center like a massive, mysterious mandala. The engravings, etched with meticulous precision, pulsed with energy in the intermittent lightning, devouring nature's essence and bending it to its dark will.
As she drew closer, the clear, crystalline blue water surrounding the prison at the outer edges, shimmered with an innocent purity. Yet, as the current swayed nearer to the prison, the water's hue darkened, surrendering its transparency to an impenetrable black. The corrupted water moved with a conscious malevolence, whirling in patterns defying natural fluid dynamics.
Reaching the end of the River Meadows' Edge, Airi continued her stroll to the tip of the lagoon. Without hesitation, she stepped forward. The water solidified as her foot touched its surface allowing her to remain above the water, as if walking on solid ground.
Crossing the threshold of the outer perimeter, the air steadily grew malignant and heavy, becoming toxic to breathe. Pressure increased with each step, strategically manifested to crush any unauthorized intruders.
Airi proceeded with unwavering authority over this domain, unaffected by the prison's defenses. Before arriving at its gates, she stopped, taking a moment to admire the twisted masterpiece she brought into existence.
Mizu no Jigoku Prison, a bastion of ancient power, stood solid amidst the tempestuous night. Surrounded by an expanse of water stretching out like a black mirror, it rested upon a perfect circular piece of land, intentionally carved out and isolated from the mainland. Its walls, weathered by centuries of exposure to the elements, bore the scars of countless attempts to contain the evil within. The structure's architecture was a twisted blend of ancient Japanese design with its very stones shaped by the hands of the damned.
Designed as a perverse reflection of a celestial dark star, it pulsed with dark energy. At its core, a central hub served as its black heart, forming radiated corridors of varying lengths, each like a vein pumping corruption and despair throughout the complex. The corridors housed cells, some shallow and barely large enough to contain a single tormented soul, while others extended deep into the shadows, its depths concealing horrors beyond mortal comprehension. Each cell a waiting room for death, each corridor a path to oblivion.
The black water, an inky liquid possessing a malefic sentience, flowed through channels embedded within the prison walls and across its grounds. The network of liquid darkness served as both a macabre decoration and the prison's sole security system. Absent of guards patrolling its halls, the water moved in hypnotic patterns, defying the laws of nature to serve as the judge, jury, and executioner for any foolish enough to attempt escape.
Airi's footsteps remained soundless as she glided through the water, proceeding deeper into the prison. Recognizing the presence of its creator, the oppressive atmosphere parted before her like a curtain. The black water danced at her passing, like an eager pet greeting its master, growing less agitated as she approached Zei's dimly lit cell. The swirling protean patterns shifted into calm, current-like waves.
Inside the cell, Zei sat bound to a chair fabricated from the black water surrounding him. The dark liquid had solidified, shaping itself into a mangled throne glistening with an oily sheen. Ensnared by encrypted chains, each link was inscribed with cryptic symbols actively draining his strength, siphoning away his power and will to resist. Blood seeped from his wounds, droplets falling rhythmically into the black water flowing below his knees.
"It's been a while my friend," Airi voiced, emerging from the shadows. "I've heard you've been doing well for yourself..."
Zei's eyes, crusted with dried blood, slightly cracked open at the sound of her voice. His face, a tapestry of fresh bruises and partially healed wounds. With visible effort, he let out an annoyed sigh, the breath rattling in his chest. "It hasn't been long enough," he rasped. "If you wanted my attention, you coulda called."
The black water stirred, responding to Airi's presence as she approached the cell bars. Her fingers, long and elegant, wrapped around the cold metal with deliberate slowness. A grin crept across her lips. "How did you figure it out?"
Despite his battered condition, Zei managed a smile, the blood to crack and flake at the corners of his mouth. "Not gonna lie, I had my suspicions at first," he admitted, his voice a strained whisper. "Everything was too convenient. The request, the ease of information... the timing..." He paused, his gaze meeting Airi's through the bars. "But for the amount of money offered, how could I say no?"
Zei turned his head to the side in a dramatic display of mock sadness, the movement eliciting a faint wince as pain shot through his battered face. "I didn't put two and two together until that kid of yours smashed my skull in!"
An awkward silence briefly filtered through the cell before Zei broke out in laughter. "Hahahah she really knocked some sense into me huh... hahahahaha."
The black water whisked violently, its movements becoming more unsettled. Inky tendrils rose from the surface, twisted and coiled in the air like serpents awakening from slumber, creating abstract patterns in tune with his laughter. Airi remained still watching Zei's display of unhinged humor, her smile never wavering to embrace the nostalgia setting in.
His manic laughter faded as the encrypted chains steadily drained his energy. "Does he know?" Zei inquired, his voice strained.
Airi's gaze diverted towards a moth fluttering erratically around the lantern, its fickle performance causing the cell's dim lighting to flicker. "Of course not!... If he did..." she exhaled, her voice distant while her mind momentarily reminiscent. The sudden trail off left her unfinished thoughts hanging in the air.
"Yeah, yeah, I get it..." Zei muttered. Chains rattled as he shifted in his restraints, wearily swaying his head. "So, what do you want from me? You already killed off my men."
Turning her awareness back onto Zei, a weighted pause flooded the cell. "Zei... remember how Yamaguchi took such good care of us growing up." A ting of unexpected vulnerability strangled her voice. "I need you to do that for Kaname."
Zei stared at her, eyes slightly widened processing the implications of Airi's words. Unable to mask the underlying sentiment, he sharply turned away, fixing his eye on the flowing waters circulating throughout the cell. "Tsk, you don't hold back, do ya?"
Then, in a gesture even surprising to the black water, which stilled its constant motion, Airi turned fully toward the cell bars, shifting to her knees and humbly bowed, her face nearly touching the dark liquid. "I need this favor," she said, barely above a whisper. "There's going to come a time where I won't be here.…She'll need guidance."
Zei watched Airi in silence, his eyes tracing the contours of her bowed form. The casual mockery faded from his features into a grave expression. "The way you manipulate rivals the Titans," he snorted, his tone mixed with admiration and wariness. "I see how you earned the title of Second in Command."
A playful smile broke across her face as she lifted her head, her tongue partially poking out. "Hehehe, it was still worth a shot. I can be quite persuasive when necessary. "
Zei's battered face contorted into a grin, his eyebrows raising in response to Airi's deceitful mockery. "EHH, if that's so," he drawled, his voice dripping with sarcasm, "why are there rumors that a while back Kaito aligned himself with the Vorterras and backed a slew of reckless deals?" His tone lowered, taking on a teasingly serious edge as he leaned forward, "Even going as far as sending his own people to get rid of any opposing forces against their interests?"
He paused, eyes locked onto Airi's, gauging her reaction to his words. The black water churned around them, sensing the tension between them."Seeing how the Syndicate bans any inter-realm affairs, I'm surprised you've been so cooperative."
Airi exhaled heavily, reaching up to scratch her cheek. "It was a good move up until recently," she admitted, her voice a note of regret. "But, there's no doubt I hold responsibility for being too trusting of him. I should have seen this coming…"
The black water rippled with Zei's laughter. "Pfft! Hahaha! Trusting? You've really calmed down since getting knocked up hahahaha!" He humorously sighed, leaning back into his chair. "The Vorterras may be few in number, but they're a cunning bunch. It's still a bold move to engage with them. If the rumors are true, it means the Chikas obtained significant wealth, resources, and land over the years."
Airi's eyes narrowed, wrinkling her face. The black water swirled intensely beneath her, agitated by her display of discomfort.
Noticing her reaction, Zei roguishly pouted. "Besides…." he continued, "I don't know why you're asking a favor from a dead man. I'm sure Fukiko will have my head before the sun sets."
He deepened his pout as he looked at Airi, his eyes glinting with a mixture of comical mischief and resignation. "I guess it's the price I pay for my bad habits..."
Picking up on Zei's childish gesture, Airi chuckled, raising to her feet. "Unfortunately, as one of Kaname's future guardians, I can't allow that to happen. So I've arranged for other plans."
A knowing sneer snuck across her face as she looked down at Zei. "Why else would I've worked so hard to get you here?"
Zei smiled sinisterly, monitoring the approaching movement from the shadows behind Airi, "Other plans… Wha-?"
"What she really means is that you'll be coming with me," a sultry voice interrupted, cutting his words short as she stepped into the dim lighting behind Airi. Her wolf ears stood at attention, tail swaying with hungry excitement. Her eyes glared at him with the patient interest of a predator successfully capturing its prey. Hair, a striking mix of brown and black highlights, cascaded over her shoulders in tousled waves, framing a face of both beauty and danger.
She wore a bright red, skin-tight long-sleeve mini dress uniform that hugged every curve of her voluptuous figure, leaving very little to the imagination. The material stretched taut over her ample bosom, the cleavage firm and round, emphasizing her large breasts. Black thigh-high heeled boots encased her long, shapely legs, adding an extra sway to her step.
Zei's smile instantly morphed into an expression of disgust, taking in the beastwoman's appearance, his lip curled with disdain.
"...Really Airi...with this Bitch!!!?"
