"Where's Nelly?" I asked Lucas, my voice tinged with concern.
He glanced at me before replying, "She was with Lily the whole night, but she's gone to rest now."
I nodded, absorbing the information. "Okay, tell Lily I'll come visit her later. Something urgent has come up."
Lucas gave me a curious look but didn't press for details. I grabbed the envelope, the weight of it heavy in my hand, and made my way out of the hospital. The air outside was crisp, a stark contrast to the turmoil brewing inside me.
As I headed toward the cottage, my thoughts were consumed by one thing: Leila. I needed her with me as I looked at these results. Whatever was in that envelope, I couldn't face it alone. The bond we now shared felt stronger, more intense, and I knew I needed her by my side to ground me, to help me make sense of the chaos that seemed to be spiraling out of control.
