Chapter 70 - Disappearance

Isabella walked briskly through the bustling streets of Tokyo, enjoying the rare moment of freedom. Alex had been unusually overprotective lately, particularly given her pregnancy. He had insisted on accompanying her everywhere, which she appreciated but also found stifling. Today, she had finally convinced him to let her go out alone. With a cheerful wave and a reassuring smile, she promised him she'd be fine.

The city was alive with the usual energy of afternoon shoppers. Isabella, clutching her shopping bags, felt a small thrill of independence as she moved through the crowd. She loved Tokyo's vibrant atmosphere and the sense of anonymity it offered. For a moment, she could forget the complications of her life and just enjoy the simple pleasures.

But as the minutes ticked by, an unsettling feeling began to creep over her. Her phone buzzed in her bag, but when she pulled it out, she saw it was just a message from Ava. She shot a quick reply, but something in the pit of her stomach told her that she should head home soon.

As she was about to turn towards the subway station, a black van suddenly pulled up beside her. Before she could react, several masked men jumped out and grabbed her. Her initial scream was muffled by a hand clamped over her mouth, and a strong, chemical-smelling cloth was pressed against her nose. Panic surged through her as darkness closed in, and she lost consciousness.

When she awoke, she found herself in an unfamiliar, dimly lit room. Her hands were bound behind her, and her head throbbed painfully. The room was stark, with unfinished concrete walls and exposed wiring. Isabella tried to move, but the ropes were too tight.

Footsteps echoed from the doorway, and Isabella's heart raced. Ethan appeared, his face a mask of sinister calm. His eyes, usually so controlled, were now burning with a disturbing intensity.

"Ethan?" Isabella gasped, her voice trembling. "What's going on? Why am I here?"

Ethan's expression twisted into a cruel smile. "You're mine, Isabella," he said, his tone filled with a twisted possessiveness. "You were always meant to be with me, not Alex. You don't belong in his world."

Isabella's heart pounded in her chest. She struggled against the ropes, trying to free herself, but it was futile. "You're insane," she spat. "You can't do this. Let me go!"

Ethan ignored her pleas and stepped closer. His eyes roamed over her, filled with a mix of obsession and anger. "You think you can just walk away from me? I've planned this for too long."

Isabella's mind raced. She had to escape, but she had no idea how. Ethan was holding all the cards, and she was trapped in a nightmare of his making.

Meanwhile, back at home, Alex's anxiety had turned into full-blown panic. The hours had ticked by, and Isabella was nowhere to be found. He tried calling her repeatedly, but each attempt went unanswered. His gut told him something was wrong.

He called his security team and issued a frantic order. "Search everywhere. I want every corner of the city covered. She's missing, and I need her found now."

His team worked with urgency, scouring the streets, checking surveillance footage, and questioning witnesses. Alex's worry grew with each passing moment. The thought of something happening to Isabella, especially now that she was pregnant, was unbearable.

As the search continued, Alex's frustration mounted. The city's chaotic pulse felt like a mocking reminder of his powerlessness. He paced the living room, his hands clenched into fists. The idea of losing Isabella and their child was more than he could bear.

Hours later, a call came in from one of his operatives. "We've traced a suspicious van to the docks," the operative reported. "It looks like they're preparing to leave the city."

Alex's heart leaped. "I'm on my way," he said, grabbing his coat and heading out. He knew he had to act quickly.

When he arrived at the docks, the scene was chaotic. The boat that had left the shore was speeding out towards open water. Alex's pulse quickened. He could see Isabella's figure in the distance, but the boat was moving fast.

Without hesitation, Alex jumped into a speedboat and followed, the powerful engine roaring as he cut through the waves. His heart pounded as he closed the gap between the boats. He could see Ethan's boat now, the dim lights of the vessel barely visible against the darkening sky.

The speedboat pulled alongside Ethan's boat. Alex leaped onto the deck, landing with a thud. His gaze immediately locked onto Ethan, who was standing by the cabin door, a smug look on his face.

"You're too late, Alex," Ethan said with a cold sneer. "You can't stop what's already been set in motion."

Alex's eyes burned with anger. "Let her go, Ethan. This is between you and me. You don't need to involve her."

Ethan's grin widened. "But I'm afraid you're mistaken. She's always been part of this. She's mine to take."

Alex's eyes flicked to the cabin, where he saw Isabella tied up, her face pale with fear. Without thinking, he pushed past Ethan and rushed inside. But Ethan blocked his path, his expression a mix of frustration and triumph.

"You have to choose, Alex," Ethan said, his voice dripping with malice. "Who dies? Me, or Isabella and her child?"

Alex's heart raced. The thought of losing Isabella and their baby was unbearable. But he knew he had to make a choice. If it meant sacrificing himself to save them, he would do it.

"I choose myself," Alex said through gritted teeth. He reached for the vial of chemical Ethan was holding, knowing that it would cause him immense pain but hoping it would buy enough time for his men to arrive.

Ethan's eyes widened in shock as Alex swallowed the chemical. The effects were almost immediate. Alex's vision blurred, and he collapsed onto the floor. His men, who had been tracking the location, arrived just in time to see the chaos unfolding.

In the ensuing commotion, Ethan fled, disappearing into the night. Alex's men quickly secured the area, freeing Isabella and getting her to safety. The boat was returned to the docks, and Isabella was rushed back to the city, her heart pounding with relief.
