Chapter 30 - new ghost ghram 19

### ** Into the Abyss**

---

The dawn after the old man's warning was quiet—too quiet. The weight of what they had learned settled heavily on the group. Surya, Kaelin, and Rion stood together, contemplating their next move.

**Surya (determined):** "We need to find the source of the Shadow King's power, and we need to do it fast. If Cain's making his move, we don't have time to sit around."

**Kaelin (frowning):** "But how? We have no clue where to start. That old man gave us a warning but no real direction."

Rion stepped forward, holding a map he'd been studying overnight. He spread it across the stone floor of the temple ruins.

**Rion:** "We may not know exactly where the source is, but I think I have a lead. There are ancient legends about a place called *The Abyssal Veil*, a realm connected to the Shadow King's power. It's said to be hidden deep within the Mountains of Despair, far beyond the lands of the Gate Family."

Kaelin's eyes widened. "The Mountains of Despair? That's halfway across the continent, and it's swarming with the Gate Family's enforcers. Getting there won't be easy."

Surya clenched his fists, the flicker of dark energy still lurking beneath his skin. "It doesn't matter. We don't have a choice. If that's where we need to go to stop this power from consuming me—and to stop Cain—then that's where we're headed."

**Rion (nodding):** "It won't be a straightforward journey. The mountains are treacherous, and the rumors about the Abyssal Veil suggest it's more than just a physical place. We're dealing with ancient magic here. We need to be prepared for anything."

Surya's gaze hardened. "We've faced worse. And we're not turning back now."

### **The Journey Begins**

With a plan set, the group packed their gear and left the ruins, heading toward the Mountains of Despair. The landscape gradually shifted from rolling hills to jagged cliffs and deep, shadowy valleys. The air grew colder as they climbed higher, each step taking them closer to their destination—and to the unknown dangers that awaited them.

During the first few days, they moved cautiously, avoiding Gate Family patrols and sticking to hidden paths. But the deeper they ventured into the mountains, the more the darkness seemed to close in around them.

As they camped one night near a crumbling cliff, Kaelin noticed something strange in the sky. A swirling vortex of black clouds had begun to form overhead, crackling with unnatural energy.

**Kaelin (worried):** "This place… it's tainted with the Shadow King's power. The closer we get, the stronger it feels."

Surya looked up at the vortex, feeling the pull of the darkness inside him growing stronger.

**Surya (grim):** "It's trying to pull me in. I can feel it. Like a whisper at the back of my mind."

Kaelin frowned, her eyes filled with concern. "You can't give in, Surya. We need to stay focused on stopping this, not letting it consume you."

Rion nodded in agreement. "We stick together, no matter what happens. If things get worse, we pull you back."

Surya forced a smile, though the weight of the dark power gnawed at him. "Thanks, guys. I'm not going to lose myself. Not yet."

### **Ambush in the Night**

As they prepared to sleep, a sense of unease settled over the camp. Surya tried to rest, but his dreams were haunted by visions of the Shadow King—dark tendrils pulling him into an endless void.

Suddenly, a bloodcurdling scream pierced the night air. Surya shot awake, his heart racing. He wasn't the only one who had heard it.

**Kaelin (whispering, drawing her weapon):** "Something's out there."

Rion grabbed his bow, scanning the shadows. "Stay close. We're not alone."

Before they could react, figures emerged from the darkness—figures draped in shadow, their forms twisted and monstrous. The air grew colder as the creatures advanced, their eyes glowing with an unnatural light.

**Rion (gritting his teeth):** "Shadow fiends. They must be drawn to the darkness in this place."

Surya could feel the pull of the Shadow King's power intensifying, urging him to use it. He clenched his fists, trying to resist the temptation.

**Surya (to himself):** "No… not yet. I can't lose control."

Kaelin and Rion fought the creatures with everything they had, but the fiends seemed endless, their numbers growing with each passing moment. As one of the fiends lunged at Surya, he acted on instinct—dark energy surging through his veins as he unleashed a blast of shadow magic.

The creature disintegrated in an instant, but the power was too much. Surya stumbled, feeling the darkness clawing at his mind.

**Kaelin (rushing to him):** "Surya! You can't keep using that power!"

**Surya (struggling to stand):** "I… I had no choice…"

Rion fired another arrow, hitting a fiend squarely in the chest. "We're getting overwhelmed. We need to fall back!"

But before they could retreat, a new figure emerged from the shadows—a tall, imposing man with silver hair and a cold, calculating gaze. His presence radiated power, and the shadow fiends seemed to shrink back in fear.

**Silver-Haired Man (smirking):** "So, you're the ones who've been causing all this trouble. Surya, the wielder of the Shadow King's power. I've been looking forward to this."

Surya's eyes narrowed. "Who are you?"

The man's smirk widened. "I am Valtor, one of Cain's lieutenants. And I've been sent to make sure you don't reach the Abyssal Veil."

Rion raised his bow, ready to fire. "If you're looking for a fight, you've found it."

Valtor chuckled darkly. "Oh, I'm not here to fight. Not yet. Consider this a warning. The Shadow King's power will destroy you long before you even get close to the Veil."

Surya's jaw tightened, the dark energy within him pulsing. "We'll see about that."

Valtor's eyes gleamed with amusement. "I'll be waiting. But don't take too long. The longer you resist the Shadow King's call, the more it will consume you."

With that, Valtor vanished into the shadows, leaving the group shaken but determined.

### **The Path Forward**

As dawn broke, the group gathered their things, preparing to move deeper into the mountains. The encounter with Valtor had rattled them, but it had also strengthened their resolve.

**Surya (determined):** "We don't have time to waste. We need to reach the Abyssal Veil before Cain and his forces do."

Kaelin nodded, her eyes full of resolve. "We'll make it. Together."

Rion glanced at the swirling vortex in the distance. "The Veil is close. But so is the danger. We have to be ready for anything."

Surya took a deep breath, steeling himself for the journey ahead. The shadow within him still whispered, but he refused to give in. Not yet. He would find the source of the Shadow King's power and put an end to it—before it consumed him completely.
