Amelia looked at her with a knowing gaze. "I see how Leo favors you over everyone else. I'm not blind, Eliana. But it's okay. I don't blame you for clinging to him. He is a powerful man, and he will give you things no one else can."
Eliana's mind raced, but she forced herself to stay calm. "I don't know what you're talking about, Amelia. But I can't stay here and chat all day," she replied, keeping her guard up, ready to move on.
"Oh, of course," Amelia said, stepping aside with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. "I'll let you get back to work."
As Eliana walked away, she could feel Amelia's eyes burning into her back, the weight of them lingering like an uncomfortable heat.
