The meeting room was filled with a somber atmosphere as the leaders of Orario's most powerful familias gathered. Loki, Freya, and Hestia sat at the head of the long table, their expressions serious as they listened to the expedition members recount their journey into the depths of the Dungeon. Around them, Ais, Riveria, Tiona, Tione, Gareth, Bete, Finn, Ottar, and Bell were seated, their faces a mixture of fatigue and contemplation.
"That was no ordinary encounter," Riveria began, her voice calm but edged with concern. "The voice that Bell heard before... it didn't speak this time, but the presence was unmistakable. It was as if the Dungeon itself was watching us, waiting."
Loki, who had been leaning back in her chair with a thoughtful expression, sat up straighter. "So, this entity—whatever it is—seems to be aware of us now. That's not exactly comforting."
Freya, her eyes glimmering with curiosity, nodded in agreement. "It's like we're being tested. But for what purpose, I wonder? And why Bell?"
Hestia glanced at Bell, her eyes filled with concern for her beloved adventurer. "Whatever it is, it's clear that Bell is at the center of this. We need to be careful moving forward."
Bell, feeling the weight of their words, remained quiet. The memory of the ominous presence in the Dungeon still lingered in his mind, but he knew that dwelling on it wouldn't help them find answers.
"Well," Finn interjected, trying to lighten the mood, "we've faced worse before. We just need to stay sharp and keep our wits about us."
Loki grinned suddenly, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Enough of this gloom and doom talk. We've been through a lot recently, and I think it's about time we had a little break."
The room fell silent as everyone turned to look at Loki, unsure of what she was suggesting.
Loki leaned forward, her grin widening. "How about we take a trip to Melen? A nice, relaxing time at the beach. Sun, sand, and the ocean—just what we need to recharge."
Freya raised an eyebrow, intrigued by the suggestion. "A beach trip, huh? That sounds... delightful."
Hestia, though initially surprised by the sudden change in topic, quickly warmed up to the idea. "That actually sounds like a great idea! It would be good for all of us to unwind a bit."
The expedition members exchanged glances, some more eager than others, but the idea of a break from their usual duties was undeniably appealing.
"A beach trip it is, then!" Loki declared, her excitement infectious. "Let's head out tomorrow morning!"
The next day, the group arrived at the coastal city of Melen, where the sparkling blue waters of the ocean greeted them under the warm sun. The change in scenery was a welcome relief from the dark and foreboding Dungeon, and the adventurers quickly shed their usual gear for more casual attire suited to a day at the beach.
Loki and Freya lounged under large umbrellas, sipping on cool drinks, while Hestia chatted with them animatedly. The rest of the group was scattered along the shoreline, enjoying the rare opportunity to relax.
Bell, dressed in a simple pair of swimming trunks, walked along the edge of the water, feeling the cool waves lap at his feet. He glanced over to where Ais was standing a little further out in the water, her usual confident demeanor replaced by an expression of uncertainty.
"Ais, are you okay?" Bell called out, noticing her hesitation.
Ais turned to him, her golden eyes reflecting the sunlight. "I... I'm not very good at swimming," she admitted, a slight blush coloring her cheeks.
Bell smiled warmly, wading into the water to join her. "Don't worry, Ais. I can help you. It's not that hard once you get the hang of it."
Ais nodded, trusting Bell completely. He gently took her hands and guided her into deeper water, explaining the basics of how to float and move in the water. His voice was calm and reassuring, and Ais found herself relaxing under his guidance.
"Just keep your body straight and move your arms and legs like this," Bell instructed, demonstrating the motions as he floated beside her. "You're doing great, Ais."
Ais tried to mimic his movements, her focus intense as she followed his lead. At first, she struggled to stay afloat, but with Bell's encouragement and steady presence, she gradually began to get the hang of it. The feeling of the water supporting her was strange but not unpleasant, and she couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment as she managed to stay afloat on her own.
"See? You've got it!" Bell said, his smile bright and genuine. "Just take it slow, and you'll be swimming in no time."
Ais looked at Bell, her heart swelling with a feeling she couldn't quite place. The way he had been so patient with her, so kind and encouraging—it was different from anything she had experienced before. She had always admired his strength and determination, but this was something more, something that stirred a warmth in her chest.
"Thank you, Bell," she said softly, her gaze lingering on him. "For helping me."
Bell's cheeks turned a light shade of pink as he scratched the back of his head. "It's nothing, really. I'm just glad I could help."
As they continued to practice in the water, Ais couldn't help but steal glances at Bell, her thoughts becoming more jumbled and confused. She had always seen him as a comrade, a fellow adventurer who shared the same goals. But now, as they spent this peaceful time together, she began to wonder if there could be something more between them—something deeper.
Meanwhile, on the shore, the others watched the scene with varying degrees of amusement and curiosity. Tiona nudged Tione with a grin. "Look at Ais! She's blushing! Do you think she's finally realizing her feelings?"
Tione chuckled, shaking her head. "About time if she is. Those two are so dense sometimes."
Finn, who had been observing quietly, smiled to himself. "It's good to see them getting along. They deserve some happiness after everything they've been through."
As the day went on, the group continued to enjoy the sun and the sea, laughter and lighthearted banter filling the air. The weight of their responsibilities seemed to melt away in the warmth of the day, and for a brief moment, they were just friends enjoying each other's company.
But as the sun began to set, casting the sky in hues of orange and pink, Ais found herself standing on the shore, watching Bell as he helped the others pack up their things. The feeling that had been growing inside her all day now bubbled to the surface, undeniable and strong.
She didn't know what the future held or how her feelings would change their relationship, but for now, she was content to let things unfold naturally. Bell was special to her, that much she knew, and whatever came next, she would face it with the same determination that had carried her through countless battles.
As the last of the sunlight dipped below the horizon, the group gathered their belongings and began the walk back to the city. Ais fell into step beside Bell, a small smile on her lips as they walked in comfortable silence.
And though neither of them spoke of it, a new bond had begun to form between them—a bond that, like the waves of the ocean, would ebb and flow but never truly fade away.
