Like others who had tasted a Devil Fruit, Black Widow sensed an immediate change in her body the moment she swallowed the Mimic-Mimic Fruit. The previously abstract concept of "mimicry" now felt as tangible as her own hands and feet. She no longer needed any more convincing—the power of the Devil Fruit was real.
Acting almost instinctually, Black Widow pressed her right hand against her face. Her appearance transformed instantly, erasing her features and replacing them with those of a different man.
It was none other than Clint Barton—Hawkeye.
'So it is Clint she's closest to,' Rosh thought, amused.
"Wow… so this is what it feels like to be a man?" said "Barton-Black Widow," holding up her new hands and examining her altered body. Fascinated, she approached a mirror in the shop, marveling at the familiar face that stared back.
"Amazing," she whispered. "Absolutely incredible!"
Then, with another press of her left hand, Barton disappeared, and Black Widow reappeared. Rosh watched her with a knowing smile.
"How does it feel?" Rosh asked, smiling as he observed her amazement.
"Astonishing!" she replied, unabashed in her praise. "If I hadn't tried it myself, I wouldn't have believed something this incredible could exist."
"I'm glad to hear you're pleased," Rosh responded with a satisfied nod.
"Shopkeeper, if you don't mind, I'd like to take a look at some of the other fruits," Black Widow said with an air of seriousness. Though she was already sold on the Mimic-Mimic Fruit, she had a professional interest in understanding as much as possible. After all, she was here with a mission.
"Of course, take your time," Rosh said, gesturing for her to continue.
As Black Widow browsed through the remaining fruits, another one caught her eye: the Mark-Mark Fruit. It allowed the user to mark any object or person as a target, automatically enabling anything they threw to track and pursue the target.
'This fruit would be perfect for Clint,' Black Widow thought with a smile.
"Shopkeeper, as the Mark-Mark Fruit, can automatically track and attack marked targets. Are there any limitations to its tracking ability?" she asked, curious about the fruit's full range of capabilities. "For instance, can the tracking adjust in real-time, similar to a weapon's automated tracking system?"
"Yes, it's quite sophisticated," Rosh nodded. "Once marked, they remain traceable no matter how far the target goes. The tracking persists unless the thrown object is blocked or intercepted by an obstacle."
"An obstacle?" Black Widow raised an eyebrow.
"I mean 'obstacle' doesn't mean regular obstacles encountered en route; those can be bypassed automatically. It refers to the target hiding in a sealed environment, like a locked room or a vehicle." Rosh clarified.
Black Widow was impressed. This meant that once Clint marked a person, a single arrow would be enough to guarantee a hit—unless the target barricaded themselves in a confined space. She was certain Clint would love this fruit.
After thoroughly reviewing all the available Devil Fruits and committing their details to memory, Black Widow finally turned to Rosh. "After careful consideration, I still prefer the Mimic-Mimic Fruit," she said with certainty.
"For the Mimic-Mimic Fruit, that'll be four million dollars," Rosh replied.
"Charge it to my card," she said, promptly handing him a card. With a beep, the transaction was complete. Rosh handed her the Mimic-Mimic Fruit.
"Just a bite is enough to activate the power, right?" she asked, confirming what she had read in the catalog.
"Yes, a single bite grants the power. The remaining fruit will be useless, and even if someone else eats it, they won't gain any abilities," Rosh explained.
Devil Fruits were strange indeed. The magic was in the first bite, rendering the rest useless—a quirk that, while baffling, made sense considering the fruits' fantastical nature. Black Widow, not one to waste resources, took the fruit and took a decisive bite, securing the Mimic-Mimic Fruit's power permanently.
"Shopkeeper, I assume I'm allowed to take the remaining fruit with me?" she asked, looking back at him.
Even though Rosh had explained that the rest of the fruit was useless, she wasn't about to take him at his word. Like other agents, she wanted to bring the remainder back for S.H.I.E.L.D. to study.
"Of course. The fruit is yours to do with as you please," Rosh said, waving a hand dismissively. He knew that no amount of research at S.H.I.E.L.D. would reveal the fruit's secrets, so he wasn't concerned.
"A few million dollars for a fruit—I can't let it go to waste, right?" Black Widow said, carefully storing the remaining pieces.
With the transaction complete, Black Widow wasn't ready to leave just yet. She looked at Rosh again and asked, "Shopkeeper, I read about a group chat for Devil Fruit users in the catalog. Could you add me to it?"
Of course, as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, she wouldn't miss out on a network like that.
