"I may have made some breakthroughs in biochemistry, but so what?" Morbius shrugged, a trace of bitterness appearing on his face. "I still haven't found a way to cure myself."
Even winning a Nobel Prize had been in vain. He continued to suffer from the daily torment of his illness, relying on blood transfusions just to stay alive. If it weren't for his friend Lucien, who shared the same affliction and provided mutual support, he wasn't sure he could have held on.
"Dr. Morbius, if this is your concern, then all I can say is—you've come to the right place," Helen responded with a confident smile.
"I've heard many unbelievable things about you," Morbius replied a flicker of hope in his eyes. "Some even say you're a mutant, Dr. Cho. I hope, for my sake, that those rumors are true."
"You'll soon find out for yourself," Helen replied with a mysterious smile. She gestured for him to follow. "Come with me."
Without further words, Morbius followed Helen into another room designed for treatment. Sitting in a specialized chair as she indicated, he glanced around, puzzled. There were no medical devices or instruments here. Feeling confused, he thought, 'Isn't this supposed to be a medical procedure?'
"Dr. Morbius, relax. Don't overthink it," Helen said softly, taking a seat opposite him. "Now, please, give me your hand."
Morbius hesitated, confused. "Dr. Cho, what exactly are we doing here?"
"We're about to create a miracle," Helen responded with a mysterious smile. "Now, please, just trust me."
Still bewildered, Morbius extended his hands to her. Helen gently grasped them and silently activated her ability. At first, Morbius thought this was just a strange form of therapy. Was simply holding hands supposed to help? But then, something changed.
A sensation—subtle yet unmistakable—began spreading through his body. He couldn't explain it in words, but one thing was clear: the weakness and pain that had plagued him for years were vanishing.
He felt strength returning to him, coursing through his limbs. Though Helen hadn't released his hands yet, Morbius instinctively knew that he could stand, walk, and even run without crutches.
"This... this feeling..." he murmured, his voice trembling with disbelief.
"It's done, Dr. Morbius," Helen said, releasing his hands with a smile. "Now, you can test your body."
Without a moment's hesitation, Morbius stood up—and stayed standing. His legs, which had once struggled to support him, now felt solid and sure. He took a few tentative steps, his movement steady. It was as if he had never been sick at all.
"I can walk… like a normal person!" Morbius exclaimed, astonishment and joy mixing in his voice.
"Dr. Morbius, there's a mirror to your left. Why don't you take a look," Helen suggested with a smile.
Morbius turned toward the mirror, and the sight that greeted him left him stunned. The gaunt, pale man he had been moments ago was gone. His reflection showed a man with a healthy complexion, full cheeks, and vibrant energy. He looked like someone who had never been sick a day in his life. He simply stood there for a moment, touching his face in disbelief.
"Incredible… this is impossible…" Morbius murmured, his hands touching his restored face in disbelief. His genetic disorder had long been deemed incurable, the result of a defect in his very DNA. Despite his family's vast wealth, they had never found a solution. Modern science had no answer for it—until now.
In this room, Helen Cho had cured the incurable with just a touch. Not only that, she had restored his body to full health in a matter of minutes.
"Dr. Cho, now I finally understand why people say you might be a mutant," Morbius said after a long silence, still trying to grasp the reality of what had just happened.
Helen smiled gently. "You flatter me, Dr. Morbius, but I assure you, I'm no mutant."
Her tone was light, and there was no offense taken. In fact, to Helen, such suspicions were a compliment. They acknowledged the miraculous nature of her abilities.
"You're not a mutant?" Morbius asked, a touch of confusion mixed in his voice. 'She didn't seem to be lying. And after all, if she were a mutant, her identity would be recorded in the official mutant registry, which anyone could access.'
'It was unlikely someone of Helen Cho's prominence would be unregistered. So, if she wasn't a mutant, then… how did she do it? How had she achieved something beyond the realm of science?' Morbius was left grappling with that thought.
