Inside the Devil Fruit Shop.
"Alan's new album is kind of disappointing," Rosh couldn't help but shake his head, his face showing a hint of disappointment.
He was thrilled when he discovered that the world he had reincarnated into also had a singer named Alan. Rosh had been a massive fan of Alan's music in his previous life.
Unfortunately, in recent years, Alan has been more involved in variety shows rather than focusing on his music, delaying the release of a new album. Rosh had died waiting for a new release in his past life.
So when he found out Alan was finally releasing a new album in this world, he didn't hesitate to buy the digital version the moment it dropped. He had hoped to get lost in the music like he used to, but the quality didn't compare to what it once was.
"Still, even if it's a bit of a let down, Alan's songs are far better than most of the stuff out there," Rosh muttered to himself. "At least it's listenable."
Though disappointed, Rosh couldn't deny his loyalty as a fan. Adjusting his expectations, he continued to enjoy the album "The Best of the Best" as much as he could until the chime of the doorbell interrupted him.
A woman dressed in light blue jeans and a black jacket entered the shop. As soon as she stepped in, the smell of alcohol wafted through the air. Her hair was a mess, her face pale, and she looked exhausted—like she hadn't slept in days. The state she was in reminded Rosh of those nights he'd spent in internet cafes, staying up all night.
Once he got a closer look at her face, he immediately recognized her.
It was Jessica Jones. A private investigator who had seen better days and was always caught in a cycle of drinking and fighting.
"When did this place become a devil fruit shop?" Jessica asked as she walked deeper into the store, her curiosity piqued.
"Welcome, miss," Rosh greeted her politely, gesturing for her to look around. "It's a pleasure to have you here."
"Hey, what exactly is a Devil Fruit? I've never heard of anything like it," Jessica asked, looking around the store in confusion.
"Hold on a second," she said, her attention suddenly captured by the colorful, bizarre-looking fruits on display. "Are these the Devil fruits? They look… odd. Are they edible?"
"Of course they are!" Rosh replied with a smile. "Don't they look delicious?"
"More like something that'd poison me than anything else," Jessica retorted, her voice dripping with skepticism. But she quickly added, "But hey, trying something bizarre every now and then doesn't' sound half bad."
Unlike most people, Jessica Jones wasn't easily fazed. After enduring years of mind control and torment by Kilgrave, she had become numb to many things in life. Though Kilgrave was dead, Jessica had never fully recovered from the trauma and spent her days drowning her sorrows in alcohol and reckless behavior.
It wasn't often she came across something that sparked her interest.
"Alright, shopkeeper, give me one of these devil fruits. Let's see what they taste like," Jessica said decisively, not even bothering to ask what a Devil Fruit actually was.
She was, without a doubt, the most decisive customer Rosh had ever encountered.
"Every devil fruit is different, miss. Do you know which one you'd like?" Rosh asked, smiling as he gestured to the various fruits in the display case.
"Does it matter?" Jessica frowned but glanced over the selection anyway. She pointed at one at random. "That one."
"Ah, that's the Soundwave-Soundwave Fruit," Rosh replied, checking which one she'd selected. "A Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that grants the ability to produce soundwave attacks. The price is three million dollars."
"Three million dollars?" Jessica's voice shot up, eyes wide in disbelief. "Did I hear that right? You're charging three million dollars for a piece of fruit?"
"Yes, miss, you heard correctly," Rosh said calmly. "Compared to the power this fruit grants, three million is quite reasonable."
"Wait… what? Soundwave Fruit? Power? What are you even talking about?" Jessica was utterly confused now, feeling like she was being pranked.
'Not even knowing what the fruit was but wanting to buy it? Talk about impulsive.' Rosh silently chuckled to himself but remained professional as he explained, "Earlier, you asked about Devil fruits, right? In simple terms, eating one of these fruits will grant you superhuman abilities. The Soundwave-Soundwave Fruit, for instance, grants the eater the power to emit powerful sonic attacks. That's why it's priced at three million dollars."
"Eating a fruit to gain powers? That sounds ridiculous," Jessica laughed, but her laughter soon faded. She thought back to her own abilities—how she had suddenly developed superhuman strength after a car accident. And then there was Kilgrave, the man who had tormented her, who also possessed inexplicable powers.
Superpowers were real, and people like her were living proof of that. But how did people acquire these powers? That was a mystery she had never solved. As these thoughts raced through her mind, Jessica's smirk slowly disappeared.
As these thoughts crossed her mind, the mockery faded from her expression. She stared at Rosh intently, asking, "You're saying that if I eat this fruit, I'll be able to emit sonic waves? How do I know you're not just making this up?"
"The shop offers samples. You can try one and experience the power for five minutes," Rosh replied camly.
"Is that so?" Jessica's interest was now fully piqued. "Alright, show me the sample."
Without a word, Rosh took out a sample of the Soundwave Fruit and handed it to her. Jessica stared briefly at the bizarrely patterned fruit in her hand, hesitating briefly before taking a bite.
Instantly, she felt a strange sensation coursing through her body.
"This feeling…"
"Could it be real?" she murmured her face a mixture of amazement and disbelief.
She instinctively opened her mouth, preparing to unleash a soundwave attack.
