Chapter 8 - School Football

As soon as Alexis got back to his room, he heard a notification from the system. When he heard it, he heaved an internal sigh of relief. He had risked everything while having the match of his life in the park, it would be really sad if the system didn't hold up it's end of the bargain.

Alexis was about to complain to the system when he heard the phrase 'downloading results'. The very next second however, he felt a piercing pain in his left knee, even more painful than when he got his injury. It took everything in him not to scream like a baby.

He immediately fell to the floor while using one hand to clutch his knee and sticking the palm of his other hand into his mouth. Even though he was in a lot of pain, he was still rational enough to know that his mom should not hear him scream for any reason at all. Especially if the sight that would greet her would be him on the floor, holding his recently injured knee.

For the next five minutes or so, Alexis continued enduring the pain silently. Two lines of tears had already formed on his reddened eyes.

When the pain subsided, Alexis stood up then started thanking every single kind of God he knew that the pain was over. At that point he had forgotten about the reason why he was feeling that pain in the first place.

Alexis smiled when he saw his new stats. The only thing that made him frown for a bit was his potential. It wasn't as high as he would've wanted it to be but the fact that it was amendable made him not to worry about it.

There was also something else that he noticed with his skills.

"System. What's up with my skills?" Alexis asked. "What do the classes mean?"

|Ding! Classes is how host's proficiency with a skill is classified. Classes are F, E, D, C, B, A, S, SS, S+, SS+ in that order from the lowest to the highest class|

Alexis nodded at the explanation. He asked the system a few more questions the he went to sleep.

The next morning came quite quickly for Alexis. In fact, it was so quick that he wasn't even prepared for it. He would've slept through his many morning alarms if his mom didn't wake him up.

He rushed into the toilet to shower and brush his teeth. When he got just, he stopped in front of his body sized mirror and observed his physique.

He was staring at a pale skinned boy of average height and a slim body build. His body looked devoid any muscles. One wouldn't be too far from thinking that a little bit of wind would knock him over from looking at his body.

After lamenting over his average frame and promising himself to do a bit of work out when he got back, Alexis wore his school uniform and rushed out the door.

***

School had never been Alexis's best place to be. In London, everyone assumed that he was just some snotty academy kid so he didn't have many friends. In fact, their baseless hatred was so extreme that most of them shamelessly laughed at a thirteen year old kid getting a career ending injury.

Over here, school was better. Nobody knew him when he came in and nobody knew him presently. He was like a ghost that just floated around. Well... Until now.

"Alexis, man, I didn't know you go to school here". Alexis turned around and saw Trey walking towards him.

"Same here". Alexis replied. "I didn't know you went to school here".

"Which year are you in?" Trey asked.

"I'm in year ten, you?". Alexis asked. Not that he was particularly interested, he just felt like he had to reciprocate the question so he wouldn't appear rude.

"Same as you mate". Trey laughed. "Come on, let's go to class together".

And like that Alexis was trapped for the next ten minutes, Alexis was subjected to listening to Trey talking. On the way, they met Myles who offered them a mild greeting. He looked at Alexis with pity in his eyes when he saw that Trey had 'kidnapped' him.

The rest of the day was quite unbearable for Alexis. It was almost as if Trey didn't run out of things to say. The only times where he was actually quiet was when they were in class. He might've been a talkative person, but he was surprisingly a very good student.

When the bell rang to signify the end of the school, Alexis was about to bolt out of the door. Unfortunately, he was cornered by Trey at the door.

"Oh, I've been wanting to ask, are you interested in joining the school's football team?" Trey asked. "You played pretty well in the park the other day so I thought you should definitely try out".

Alexis paused when he heard what Trey said. Finally, something that interested him.

"It's mid session already, I thought all the spots would've been filled up". Alexis said.

"Nah, this is usually when the football season starts so the football team will be looking for new members. Except for a few guaranteed slots, every other spot is up for grabs". Trey said.

Alexis couldn't help but notice that Trey puffed his chest when he was talking about the few guaranteed spots. Out of impulse, he did something that he would regret very much for minutes to come.

"And do you happen to have a guaranteed spot?" Alexis asked.

"Yes. Funny story how that came about actually, see I ..."

And like that he was hearing different Tales from Trey about his many misadventures in the school football team.
