I was almost out of breath, but Khane wouldn't let go of me. Several times I tried to push him away, but Khane only tightened his embrace. My chest felt tight, and I gathered all my strength to push harder.
Finally, Khane let go of me. He looked at me with an unreadable expression. Of course, I was very anxious. Especially since he was quite excited just moments ago.
"I-I'm sorry, Sir. I-I couldn't breathe if you didn't let go of me," I stammered, my nervousness making it hard to speak properly.
"This necklace suits your neck very well. You look beautiful, Olivia Keep it on, and I don't want it off when we meet," he said, wanting to always see this necklace.
I felt Khane cared more about this expensive necklace than about me. I felt a bit disappointed; it seemed I wasn't that valuable. Why was I even thinking this?
I walked over to the mirror and saw my reflection. The necklace indeed looked beautiful on me. I didn't look like someone from a poor background anymore with it on. This must be what it's like to live with whatever you want.
Khane approached me, standing behind me, and said, "There's a party tomorrow. You must come."
A party? He was going to take me to a party?
"I can't. I don't really like parties. They remind me of some bad things that happened," Khane glared at me after hearing my refusal.
"I don't care. You need to dress beautifully tomorrow. I'm still taking you there." Khane was insistent on me accompanying him.
"But… what if I meet Mr. Bryan or his people there? I'm really afraid he might capture me again," I explained anxiously.
"They won't be able to take you from me. I'll make sure of it."
True, my life was secure with Khane. I had to stay calm and not be anxious. I was sure Khane wouldn't let me go to anyone who might hurt me. But… what if he gave me to someone richer than him?
"What are you thinking about?" Khane asked, as if he knew what was on my mind.
"N-nothing. I just remembered that dark past a little."
Khane narrowed his eyes, and then his gaze shifted to the door. Apparently, a servant had entered carrying a large package. Without speaking, he placed the package on the bed and left.
Khane approached the large box, whatever it contained, and looked at me as he said, "For you. Wear this gown to the party tomorrow."
After finishing his sentence, I saw Khane walk out of the room. "Are you going out again?" I asked curiously.
"Do you want me to stay?" Instead of answering, Khane asked me back.
"N-no. I just wanted to know." I lowered my head after speaking.
Khane didn't say anything else and continued his steps. Now I could take a breath; I was too tense while with Khane. He really made my heart race, and my breathing felt like I had just run a marathon.
I still enjoyed the sight of the necklace around my neck. It was so beautiful, and it was the first time in my life I had received such an expensive gift. I was afraid I couldn't take care of it properly. Should I just keep it safe?
I looked out the window as the night swallowed the evening light. My body felt so tired, and I decided to rest. I lay down on the bed and reached for the book on the nightstand next to me.
Lately, I had been able to sleep soundly after reading a story from the book. I could imagine everything when my eyes closed. The sweet visions from the book circled in my head.
"Their life stories are so beautiful. Even with many problems, they managed to solve them correctly," I said after finishing the last chapter.
I thought I needed another book. I got up from the bed and went to the reading room. It was at the end of the hall, past the lounge and Khane's office.
I faintly heard Khane talking to someone from his office. I saw the door slightly ajar, and my curiosity made me stop for a moment to listen.
"Do it as usual. Aren't you experts at killing? I'm sure you can handle it cleanly," Khane said to someone on the other end of the phone.
I covered my mouth with my hand. Fear gripped me as Khane talked about killing, making it hard to think straight.
I backed away from the room and headed to the reading room. But unfortunately, I bumped into a table, causing a vase to fall. My heart beat so fast, I didn't think Khane would notice me. So, I ran to the bedroom to pretend to sleep.
Calm down… please calm down….
I kept talking to myself to stay calm and not make Khane suspicious. My fear returned, especially when I remembered who Khane really was.
I heard someone enter the room. I didn't know who was approaching me because my eyes were tightly shut. Yes, I chose not to face them directly to avoid being caught.
I felt a large hand touch me. No, more precisely, it was covering me with a blanket. This situation was not what I wanted; I hoped that person would leave soon. If it was Khane, I hoped he wouldn't do anything to me.
"Good night, Olivia" Khane's voice made me somewhat relieved that it wasn't someone else in the room.
However, I could hear his footsteps moving away from me. Then, the door closed tightly.
"Hah… finally, he's gone," I said with relief.
"Do you want me to go?" My body tensed immediately as Khane's voice drew my attention to the side of the door.
Khane stood there, leaning against the wall, his arms folded across his chest. Then he walked toward me again.
"S-sir… I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to lie to you, I-I—" My words were cut off when Khane placed a finger on my lips.
"Sshh… don't say too much. Be quiet, or I'll attack you right now."
Khane truly managed to put my life on the edge. I felt like the Grim Reaper was standing beside me, ready to take my soul away.
I could only stare into those sharp green eyes. This situation was really not good for my heart's health. If this continued, I might have a heart attack.
"Why are you silent? What did you hear there?" Khane asked, wanting to know.
I shook my head; my lips felt stiff to respond. I really couldn't answer him right now. I was too scared of him.
"Why are you just silent? Answer or I'll really do it!"
