You live in the eyes of others, and you lose yourself in your own heart.
But Su Sheng didn't care what others thought of him. Even if people called him a lunatic, he would admit it when it suited him, and ignore it when it didn't. He did whatever he wanted. But cannibalism? That was definitely not on the list of things he would ever do—just like how he couldn't accept a woman he had grown tired of being used by others.
Otherwise, why would he go through the trouble of forming the Birds of Prey team, a group that allowed him to do whatever he wanted without any reservations? Why bother reminding Laura to leave?
Though, the process was quite entertaining!
"Sure, I could eat people. But remember the condition you agreed to," Su Sheng said as he extended his hand to lift Diana up, glancing at the First-born , who was still twitching. "Damn, this guy's tough. Even twice my usual strength didn't kill him."
Diana didn't look at the First-born . Instead, her gaze fell on Lennox's severed head. She called his name softly, sadness evident in her voice.
"Don't be too sad," Su Sheng comforted her with a faint tone, gently placing his hand on her shoulder and pulling her into his arms.
Diana didn't resist. After all the events that had transpired since she parted ways with Su Sheng, she, who had always been strong, was now on the verge of breaking.
"Life is like that—it's full of joys and sorrows," Su Sheng said, patting Diana's back in a deep tone. "Some people bring joy, and some bring tears."
"You bastard!" Diana, who had been momentarily comforted, suddenly realized the inappropriate nature of his words and angrily pushed him away.
Su Sheng shrugged and pointed at the First-born . "So, what should we do with him? Are you going to kill him?"
Diana hesitated.
Logically, the First-born should be killed to eliminate the threat he posed to the gods. But after all…
"Give him to me."
A voice suddenly interrupted, and a man with purple skin, wearing a suit and resembling an eggplant, walked over with a smile.
"He's Apollo, the sun god, and he's become the new king of the gods," Diana explained in a low voice, trying not to direct her anger at Su Sheng. "It might… be a good idea to let him take care of the First-born ."
"Are you sure you want him?" Su Sheng asked Apollo, narrowing his eyes.
"I'm the Lord of Mount Olympus now, so I have the right to decide his fate. Of course, I don't want to be your enemy, so perhaps you could name your price?" Apollo smiled.
"Take him," Su Sheng waved his hand dismissively, then emphasized, "But remember, this was your decision."
"Of course!"
Apollo's smile widened as he nodded in thanks, then disappeared along with the First-born .
"I really can't seem to save anyone by killing myself," Su Sheng chuckled, just as he noticed Firestorm flying back in the distance.
Upon landing, the Firestorm state dissipated, and Riley and Valentina reappeared.
The two of them exchanged disgruntled looks and snorted in dissatisfaction.
"So, the disagreement let her escape?" Su Sheng asked with a smile.
"Yes," Riley replied softly.
"Alright, let's get out of here first." Su Sheng jumped back onto the Discipleship, and though Riley and Valentina were still displeased, they could only transform and fly after him.
Diana turned around and handed Lennox's head to Hera, then picked up Hera and the woman in the plaid shirt, preparing to follow them.
"Wait, are we going with him? Ann, is it safe?" the woman in the plaid shirt asked hurriedly.
"If he wants to, there's no safer place than with him," Diana replied before jumping onto the ship with them.
On the Discipleship, the woman in the plaid shirt held the child, looking around at the ship's interior with curiosity. Hera remained calm—after all, she had once been a queen. Riley and Diana chatted about what had happened since their last encounter, while Valentina and Laura stood silently on the side, one out of anger and frustration, the other out of shock and confusion.
Meanwhile, Su Sheng was fiddling with the Discipleship.
At this moment, the benefits of his studies were apparent. The principles of electronic engineering had wide applications. Although he might not be able to fix everything, he could at least understand the basics. After checking the ship, Su Sheng activated the Discipleship.
Slowly, it lifted off, entered stealth mode, and soared into the sky.
"Good luck—aside from a minor loss of the defensive barrier and some damage to the outer fuselage, everything's fine," Su Sheng remarked easily. "Do you have somewhere to stay?"
"Yes!" the woman in the plaid shirt quickly provided an address.
After a while, the Discipleship landed slowly beside a suburban farm.
"This is my home—or at least, I used to live here before the incident. I don't think anyone will find us here for now," the woman explained as everyone disembarked and entered the farm together.
The farm wasn't very large, but it was quiet.
After looking around, Su Sheng lost interest and returned to the ship's dining area.
He grabbed a bottle of wine, took a swig, and let his thoughts wander.
Nine times out of ten, those who attacked the Discipleship were sent by the Council of the Lord of Time. First, because his actions in saving the Legends Squad had altered history. Second, because the Council was allied with Vandal Savage—they would surely seek revenge after his interference. It was a shame they targeted the ship and not him; he would have loved to copy their abilities.
"Next time, I'll target the Flash. He can travel through time, so I don't have to wait—I'll go directly to the moment he becomes the Flash to copy the Speed Force. That way, if the Discipleship is attacked again and can't time travel, I won't have to worry about being caught off guard."
"So you can copy other people's abilities? Even divine powers?" Diana's voice suddenly came from the door.
Su Sheng looked up and smiled. "What brings you here?"
"I wanted to talk about the future," Diana said as she walked over to him. She intended to sit down, but Su Sheng grabbed her wrist and pulled her into his arms. She struggled briefly but gave up when she couldn't break free. "What about the condition you mentioned earlier?"
"A photo," Su Sheng smiled.
"A photo? Of what?"
"You," Su Sheng chuckled softly. "Both with clothes and without."
"You…" Diana understood what he meant by "photo." She instinctively wanted to refuse such a shameless demand, but she couldn't bring herself to reject it after having agreed before.
"Come with me," Su Sheng said with a smile, getting up and leading Diana to his collection room.
Author's Note: If I could travel through time, I'd revisit these heroes over and over again. It'd be great fun to jump back and forth in time. Hmm, I really am a single dog!
