Chapter 10 - chapter 10

Jacob Wick stood in front of the unusually long car, his gaze fixed on its sleek, black exterior. The car had only three doors - two in the front and one in the back - but its length suggested it should have had six. He'd seen this car from outside before, but never from inside. Curiosity piqued, and he wondered what it would be like.

Black wasn't Jacob's preferred car colour, but he had to admit that this car looked incredibly elegant in it. In fact, he couldn't imagine it in any other colour. The car exuded an air of luxury, reminiscent of a limousine, but he couldn't identify the brand. It was strange that a car of this calibre would have no branding on it. Which company would make a car without a logo?

Jacob's attention shifted to the girl standing near the third door on the back of the car. She had blonde hair and brown eyes, and he couldn't deny that she was beautiful. She seemed ready to open the door, inviting him inside.

His system had told him that this maid was a reward, and while he didn't like the idea, he'd come to the conclusion that this maid was probably an NPC character created by his system. His system was a little crazy sometimes, actually, all the time. But who cared? He remembered her name - Anna, right?

He found solace in the belief that Anna was an NPC. If not, he didn't know what to think of this. Having a living person as a reward felt wrong in so many ways. At least she didn't seem to be doing things against her will. That was a plus.

Drawing on his vast knowledge of novels, Jacob could see how the system might create an NPC. But it was also possible to force people to do things while making it seem like their own choice. Systems were always versatile and unpredictable. There were no limits to what they could do. It was always a bad idea to have such a thing turn against oneself.

Jacob was grateful that his system seemed to want to help him, asking for nothing in return. This entire situation was confusing. It had been more than 24 hours since he had come to this world, and things had gotten stranger and stranger thanks to his system. But he wasn't complaining. The system was very generous with its seemingly random rewards, and that was good to know.

Jacob wanted to greet Anna, but just as he came within range to say something, she opened the car door and said, "Please be comfortable inside, Sir Wick."

She was one of the most elegant and graceful people Jacob had ever met, including in his previous life. He hadn't met anyone who could be categorized as elegant in this life yet which including the previous owner of this body encounters as well. He followed her into the car. This was the second car he had owned; the first was a normal car from his previous life. This one, however, was a luxurious car; the difference between them was like earth and sky.

As Jacob sat down in the car, he finally understood why there were only three doors. The car seats were incredibly comfortable, like sofas connected to the entire right side of the car, creating an L-shape when they met the back seats. On the left side, there was a screen that might or might not have been a TV screen, and next to it, a box that looked like it was for a gaming console. It was definitely a luxurious car.

Anna sat down at the very front of the sofa, giving Jacob the same feeling of readiness to serve that she had given before. He noticed an elderly man with pale white hair and wrinkles, indicating his age. It seemed that when she said she would recruit people, she wasn't playing around. She had already recruited a driver. That seemed nice. Jacob didn't care about salary, as he had more than 50 billion in the bank, and he wouldn't be able to spend it anytime soon.

As the driver took him towards his new mansion, Jacob thought about staying there for the night. It would be fun to see if his parents noticed he had spent a night out. It might be possible they wouldn't. It sounded fun, so he decided to do it.

Sophia watched the car Jacob was in as it drove away. A smile appeared on her face as she wrote something in a pocket-sized notebook. A few seconds later, she looked at the floating, semi-transparent screen.

"I reject." She said

[Confirmation of Mission Rejection

Y/n]

Sophia didn't think much about it and chose "Y." After a blink, a look of confusion crossed her face, but it didn't last long. She looked at the notebook she was holding, and whatever she had just written was gone. The notebook page was now empty.

"I've forgotten something." She said

She started flipping through the pages of the pocket-sized notebook, but there was nothing left on it except for one thing: the name "Jacob Wick" written on the very first page. A smile appeared on her face.

"Interesting" she muttered.

When Jacob reached the mansion area, he looked around. It seemed like his wasn't the only mansion there. He could see a few others, each at least half a kilometre away from the other, and each with its unique design. He also saw people with multiple cars and dogs. There were even houses he could see in that mansion.

When he entered the mansion gate, it still took a little driving to reach the mansion itself. It was huge, bigger than he thought, and filled with maids, workers, or maybe butlers. Whatever you called them, it wasn't the point. The point was how Anna had hired so many people in just a few hours. It had only been two hours, and it was crazy hard to find good maids and workers.

Jacob looked around his new mansion, finding it too big for his liking but also feeling very happy at the same time. He couldn't put his feelings into words. He had a strange satisfaction from this mansion, a weird but sweet feeling.

But Jacob felt something else deep within him, a feeling of being watched. This feeling had persisted until he entered the mansion. As soon as he crossed the threshold, the feeling disappeared, and he felt his shoulders getting lighter. A breath of relief involuntarily escaping.
