1st Trial: The Island of Sorrow [Defeat Lord Sorrowshade to get to the next trial.]
Speechless, Lucius stared at the words, trying to convince himself that he was maybe just seeing things. Surely, he couldn't be that unlucky... right?
How is it possible that he has no Aspect? How is he going to succeed in his trials without a weapon, an ability, or even an aspect? Are they playing with him right now?
'Everyone gets an Aspect, my ass,' he murmured to himself, thinking about how to face his predicament.
Just as his so-called attributes denoted, he was just normal, he had nothing. As Darren would say, they came here to die.
"Why dost thou look so blank?" the unknown guy asked and Lucius' gaze landed on him.
He immediately dismissed the shimmering symbols which was only visible to him and shook his head before asking in a whispering tone, "So Lord Sorrowshade is always at his castle, right?"
The unknown guy nodded. "Thou mayst say so, yet he doth visit the mountain from time to time. I have always wondered why those sent thither ne'er return. The poor old man…" he trailed off as they took care of the fish.
Lucius blinked and looked away, lost in thoughts.
His first trial was to defeat Lord Sorrowshade so if the man frequently visits the mountain, then that is where he should find him.
'But how am I gonna get there?'
'And how am I supposed to defeat the man without anything special about me?'
He sneered and thought to himself, 'I didn't come here to die so whether the Ethersphere like it or not, I will defeat them!' he said, standing up to his feet but a sudden earthquake fell him to the ground and he landed on his butt. "Ow! Damn it, did you feel that?"
"Feel what?" the unknown guy asked in confusion.
"Ho! Arise at once!" One of the armored enforcers approached Lucius and whipped him hard on the back causing him to yelp in pain.
Lucius was in a world of pain as he got up and the unknown guy hurriedly said with a low voice, "Look not upon him,"
'What would happen if I looked at him? Will he take me to the mountain too?' he wondered then he sneered and glared at the enforcer.
"How darest thou look at me in that manner?!"
Another whip landed on Lucius and he fell to the ground with a gasp, the pain he was feeling evident in his contorted expression.
"Since thou darest to show me disrespect, take him to the mountain!" the enforcer yelled out an order to his subordinates.
And they immediately came to drag Lucius out of there.
"By no means! Take not my friend! He is mine own friend!!"
The other enforcers dragging Lucius stopped moving and Lucius turned his head to look at the unknown guy. Was he crazy?
"Art thou willing to die for thy friend?!" The enforcer yelled.
The unknown guy shifted back and answered, "I merely wish for my friend to live!"
"Then perish alongside him!" the enforcer whipped him directly to the neck.
Lucius frowned, wondering if he just got this stranger in trouble. They just met and he's already defending him?
"Take him to the mountain as well! Let him meet his end with his so-called friend!"
Lucius sighed as they were forcefully pushed toward the direction of the mountain.
"Move!" The armored enforcer pushed him forward and he landed on his knees with a loud gasp, his face contorted in pain.
"This is torture," he said to himself and forced himself to stand up, his breath heavy as he took occasional glances at his new unknown friend. The idea of putting someone else in trouble wasn't sitting well with him.
They were finally face to face with a tall mountain that stood firmly on its own. Looking up at it, Lucius became uneasy because he was getting to the peak of his first trial and he didn't know how to go about it.
He thought to himself, "Useless! How does the Ethersphere expect me to pass my first trial without an aspect or anything at all…" Another earthquake made him fall face flat on the floor with a groan.
Then a loud whip followed on his back, causing him to yelp in pain and the enforcers derided, "Such a weakling! He will not endure even a minute, haha! Rise up!" he yelled at Lucius.
Lucius was already breathing hard as he managed to get up. He was feeling pain everywhere thanks to the whip when he didn't even remember the last time his mother whipped him.
Moving forward, they found sentinels scattered around the mountain doing nothing in particular. There were no slaves, or no sounds and it bothered Lucius.
One of the sentinels approached them and sneered before saying, "Ah, they are the new sacrifices!"
Lucius' eyes widened and he looked at his unknown friend who just nodded in understanding, the fearful expression on his face evident.
The sentinels went ahead to open a metal entrance. "Get in."
Skeptical, Lucius asked, "What's in there?"
"It is no concern of thine."
"It's my business if I wanna die!" Lucius yelled in anger and the sentinel immediately sheathed out a sword to Lucius' neck.
"And I could sever thy head this very moment if I wished, but that would be too easy, would it not?"
